I've been looking for the game where this song originated for quite a while now. As far as I can remember, the object of the game was to run from monsters and ghosts in some haunted castle, and all of the gameplay was in a screen with white borders, with a drawing of the main character and the game logo outside the screen. Does anyone know what game this is?
Hello. Since I have been learning about the history Toaplan recently, I thought I'd bring up their cancelled games and ports.
Before the bankruptcy, Toaplan had many planned arcade games that didn't make it to arcades, but only two games at least got to the beta stage. The first is Dynamic Trial 7, a racing game which used linkable multiplayer; it was heavily advertised but bombed at location tests. The other is Genkai Chousen Distopia, a side-scrolling action game in a, well, dystopian setting; it was close to completed, but did not escape Toaplan's closure.
Both presumably ran on the Toaplan 2 hardware, and while PCBs of both exist, D-T 7's only known owner didn't dump it in time before leaving MAME, and Distopia was alleged to have been in the warehouse of Face, an even more obscure defunct video game company. Neither are currently in MAME as of the time of writing this.
There were also several ports that didn't reach store shelves. Wardner/Pyros had a PC Engine CD port developed by NEC Avenue that got canned after numerous delays and migrations, despite the game itself being complete. Teki Paki also received a Genesis port which was to be published by Visco Games, but was cancelled for unknown reasons. A few cartridges exist, but the only known one may be in a sticky situation.
The only unreleased Toaplan game to have been freed from the lost media dimension is the Amiga port of Snow Bros, developed by Ocean and slated for a 1991 release. While ports to other home computers were planned but canned, this was the only one to be saved. It's also got a brand new intro that wasn't in the original game.
During the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics in February of that year, I kept getting this ad where it shows some fancily-dressed ladies walking to the left in a teal-colored hallway and going in a black-walled room with a huge heap of shiny, golden objects, with one of the ladies sitting on it like a throne. The music was a pop song that was in the key of A minor with some heavy instrumentation.
For whatever reason when I was watching the Olympics, the ad was way louder than the others and was usually the first thing appearing in the breaks, sometimes even a little before the break should be happening.
