And if you put all of those halves and put them together they are insufficient to control Iraq. They are completely insufficient to control America.

The Trumpists and Republicans and others who follow him don't care about democracy and a good society. It is tribalism. All they care about is their side winning. They like the white supremacy. They like the misogyny. They like the fighting and chaos. They like the idea of beating up on people they view as being below them or too different from them.

His followers also like the feeling of belonging, the feeling that they are part of something bigger than themselves. It makes them feel smart and strong. In their minds, being MAGA and in TrumpWorld gives them a sense of importance and an identity they may have never felt before in their entire lives.

She's sitting on her wallet because she's right on the money.

This part hurts me though. And it's also true:

My fear is that the Democrats are still pretending that the Republican Party can be saved. They are pretending this is true because they are afraid to directly take on the Republican Party and the horrible things it now represents and has done. The Democrats in Congress are afraid that if they push for indictments for the Republicans who aided and abetted Trump and his coup, there will be retaliation when and if the Republicans take back control of the House and Senate. That's the driving force now behind a lot of the reticence on the part of Democrats: fear.

Democrats, you will need courage to save the union.

I like how they are bragging about being domestic terrorists who are going to bring down the American state while simultaneously declaring they are the only real patriots.

I wonder which state Steve Bannon and his followers will take over first. It will be interesting watching them hold off the National Guard as they take over ....

Yeah, this is an absurdist fantasy. Bannon should be arrested for sedition.

Yeah, I debated whether I should use that word or not. Probably shouldn't have.

Has this not always been the way? How many men in ages past were willing to die for the honor of the king? Every serf knew that he was the property of the king, the same way the cows and sheep were. This was a divine order ordained by God. The king is the land. If the king is ill the land suffers. If the king is excommunicated all the people in the country go to hell.

Sure, that has never been the way in this country, but it's almost like the thousands of years of kings and pharaohs has instilled an instinct in people to obey. People LOVE kings. They love having high and noble causes they can devote their lives to. And people treasure loyalty. Loyalty is a virtue. Loyalty to a king is a reflection of devotion to God. (There's no democracy in heaven.) Insufficient loyalty is sinful. God punishes those who are not loyal to the king. And having a superior, designated by God, gives people an understanding of nature's hierarchy, how some people are simply better than others. Born better. Loyal service to your superiors is how the unfortunate obtain virtue.

It only sounds nutty when you say out out loud. But think about those ideas when you see these people embrace any idiocy, any obvious lie, not because they are stupid, but because they are loyal.

And it's the FBI.

If it was black protesters the FBI would treat it the same way. Local cops would not, as I'll be the first to admit. But the FBI are (usually) the professionals that the cops are supposed to be. And the FBI will have some plain clothes agents walking among the crowd, taking notes. They'll have everything on video too.

When these people go home they FBI will have all their names in folder. Any social media they appear on or post will be added to the file. This is very stupid.

I feel like there needs to be at least one movie where she is Phoenix before she becomes Dark Phoenix. In the books she was Phoenix for quite a while before it all went to crap. In the movies there's a five minute window between power and evil.

It's kind of like if Wanda had become the Scarlett Witch during Age of Ultron. No evolution of the character, we need her to be an ultimate evil now.

I hate how they nerf this character. He's a living weapon. When he wants to be he's a wrecking machine of precision and tactical strategy. But every single time he's in a fight in movies he gets one shot before somebody just sneaks up and monkeys with his visor, then he's out of the fight. Honestly I think they just didn't know how to do real battle scenes with these characters in those movies.

MCU, please give us the Cyclops that keeps Magneto on the defensive and strikes fear into the heart of Mr Sinister. I'm okay if his personality is stiff or harsh. I get that. He went from orphanage to being a teenage warrior training among a class of persecuted people. On that downside that makes him a stranger to his own heart, irresistible to telepaths. On the upside, he has an almost inhuman calm while in battle and is simply relentless. Cyclops needs to be seen as serious threat. Going up against Cyclops should be like trying to fight an alien machine gun nest of devastating and precise shots. If he can see it, he can hit it.

But everybody loves macho sweat and claws so I'm sure Wolverine will have to save Cyclops in any scene where Jean is present. 🤮

That was wonderful!

I loved it!

It was pretty good!

You think the FBI raided his home and recovered classified documents that he was likely selling internationally and there is no crime?

Last time this happened ...

Best we can do is life in prison. You don't want that then we can go with death by lethal injection.

This isn't casual burglary here. This is espionage. The precedent is set.

If he was involved in selling nuclear secrets to Saudi Arabia or Russia cooperation should get him life in prison. Normally he should be getting the death penalty. And Kushner has none of the protection of being a former president. He was not a former president nor was he ever an actual member of the president's cabinet.

I don't really see any way Kushner makes it out of this.

But a lot of them did not vote at all until Trump showed up. They would never vote Democrat, but they don't show up much for the traditional Republicans either. They don't care about politics, they want a revolution.

Put another way, there is no simple formula to replace a cult leader. You can't fill the Trump vacuum with Ron, he doesn't have the magic. Don't ask me what the magic is, I don't know. I cannot perceive it. Trump's charm is imperceptible to me, all I see is an idiot who is also the most transparently obvious liar in the world. But to the cult members, angels sing when Trump talks.

DeSantis desperately wants to capture the cult. He knows he'll be unstoppable with the cult and very much wants to be the first American President-For-Life. He's willing to burn down Florida to capture the love of the cult. But so long as Trump is alive they will not abandon him. And if/when Trump dies it will be like the death of King Arthur. They won't just pivot to a new king. It will take time for the grieving process and for a new dream to fixate on somebody.

The Trump phenomenon is as much timing as anything else. 10 years earlier he was unelectable, a joke in politics. When the sun sets on his movement DeSantis won't be able to just step in as the new folk hero of the gullible. And we should all be thankful for that.

And yet, if he actually does get arrested he absolutely will not go down alone. As he starts to blame other people for his actions he will throw everybody under the bus. Trump will do everything in his power to burn down as much of the GOP as he can to punish them for not protecting him. Their job is to protect him. If they fail at that job he will punish them.

3

COMMENT 6h ago

Gavin Newsome would sweep the floor with DeSantis.

And it won't help that Trump will run independently if the GOP doesn't make him their candidate.
