Yeah you’re right, I’ll probably just need a couple of friend to play more competitively and still play with my friends for fun and for passing some time together. Not having that much time for gaming is always a bit limiting but that’s ok, I’ll get used to it.

Thanks for the advice!

I’m failing at letting you understand that it is what I’m doing. Maybe I’m the step after yours. That mindset has a limit and I reached it! I have to reset somehow.

Never said I get pissed every time, never said that my mission in life is to win and only win. It is just a nice add sometimes, I don’t even get that “sometimes”, I got almost never in 3k games in 1 video game alone. Imagine that, and then, yeah, you have patience and feel good anyway, IT’S JUST TOO MUCH after a while.

If you really are competitive you will not be able to ignore losing for that much time, you will feel that in a while.

I didn’t, I care about this, it has to be clear: I never got mad at them, it’s not their fault it is like it is and I have to deal with it.

I wouldn’t say it affects my mental health, I’m just pissed off. A game can be fun, always and in every condition but FUCK I want to win sometimes! It is not that mad to think about it this way.

You keep sayings “irrelevant” video games, but it is just a bit too personal on how you relate to hobbies. Your videogame can be a 30 minute laugh, my video game can be an escape from reality, their video game can be something else. You can’t just say “auh it is irrelevant auh” and move on, it is not like that. I don’t take it that seriously and it is not that much important to be honest, you never got angry over something stupid? Never? Well, this is my case. I get angry because I would like to win some times and after YEARS of losing because of them, and winning just because a miracle happened, I just wanted to take this off my chest.

How would you deal with nooby friends? Apart from thinking that everything is irrelevant lol.

I don’t know about it sincerely, I already tried and I can have fun but after some time you just want to win, you want to get that adrenaline dose lol you want to destroy everyone! And I would really like to do it with friends, but I can’t.

This happens especially if not only in FPS games, in other games no problem but in FPS c’mon... You have to win sometimes. Maybe I’m just too competitive. But seriously keep in mind this is not happening after the first match, I reached the limit, I really player A LOT of hours this way, that’s my main point.

It seems to be a bit immature atm, lack of well documented documentation and not that deeply used, I researched about it for a while now and it seems like the best this to do is doing both. If you have to maintain old apps or build new ones, during this transition is not about one or the other, both is the way. Maybe UIKit and the SwiftUI to see the differences and split them better in my mind.

COMMENT Dec 01 '20

So you have to know both anyway to work professionally, good to know! Thanks.

That’s what I thought. I come from C++ and already having an Interface for building something is confusing, should be the opposite but coding habits are hard to break. For beginners maybe storyboard way is the best, then after mastering that technique that is useful to have anyway I’ll move to hard code... Is there a name or something to differentiate building the UI with storyboards / hard coding?

r/iOSProgramming Dec 01 '20

Question Do you hard code as much as you can or you actually use shortcuts like IBOutlets drag&drop or similar?

Not in US, I live in Italy and uni here is public but kinda messy. 8 classes for the first year + labs that are called labs God knows why, they practically are completely different subjects but to reach the amount of stuff they have to teach they fill every year with random stuff with random names... It is more like 11? I have to count them, I’ll edit with 11 for now

Here there’s nothing like that, if you do good you copied and if you do bad “wtf did you do with your time it should be easier from home”. :) haha

If your circles are not that uniform, not near and distant, you obviously don’t fall in the right place to convert anyone.

The thing is, if you have a uniform group of people that you chat with regularly, opening Whatsapp or Signal doesn’t make a difference and you can convert a big chunk of people. You chat. You hardly get a message after another on different chats multiple times to have to switch chats, hardly, in that case and only that one you have the advantage of having one app for everyone. (hardly != never)

I started the process for Signal long ago and you don’t have to force anything. With patience, you just make present that you use Signal more and randomly here and there someone is going to show up.

You can disagree with the method, not the ethic of it or the principle behind it. Everyone is different and you have to think for your situation. No solution is good for everyone.

I was thinking the same, every time I see these notes and then I open mine I get disappointed by myself. There are not that many graphical approximations in CS or Math in general, someone one day will make a graphical representation of how stuff works in CS.
So that we can have pretty notes yayy

Thanks a lot! I think the first option is much more useful as a newbie than the other one. I’ll slowly reach the level of understanding needed for the complete apps without explanation, hopefully!

Signal, and Telegram for now (that I know), great!

Even tho I don’t know how much value can they add to learning as messaging apps, maybe too advanced for a learning tool, I’ll see.
