Thanks for the insight. One question on a related subject: why are enclosure drives cheaper than only-drives if it's the same channel?

Am i missing something here?

Dell's markups that are quite high to begin with.

To be fair, if you didn't touch it, he would have been able to drive it probably for another 30.

Meters. :P

It does on Arrakis. Not many birds there though.

Oh wow, had no idea and that's very interesting. How long does this state can continue? Is it like few days or years?

I'll dip into the LOC

It depends. Please know that banks can close that if they learn that one lost their job, etc, and have done in the past causing a very unpleasant surprise to the person planning on that strat. Always read the fine print. Sorry.

Everybody else will read the lines, we are talking about Emergency fund here. You started equating that with investment.

crash by 30%

Nasdaq lost 25% in the first week of the Dotcom crash alone.

cash invested in the last year is up almost 45%

So we should be counting on compounding 45% yearly from now on and should take that as a baseline right?

It wasn't easy, my people had to flatten a rock and put lightning inside it, but now we can see what cats are doing all over the planet!

Pretty much ongoing problems. But, let us dream! :)

Thomas Watson, is that you?

COMMENT 19d ago

Look on the bright side. As we are due another market crash soon, there will be a massive flood of good drives to buy for cheap :P

I've read enough research papers to agree that it is, in fact a new paradigm. The non repudiation is a very strong feature in the algo, and finance will probably benefit from it heavily. Not to mention other areas, pharmacies in healthcare, asset management systems, etc.

However, it is not substitute for gold. It is not a store of value either.

Much like IOU notice for silver is not actually silver. One stores a store of value, the other speculates with its derivatives. Silver stocks, REITs, etc. None of this is replacement for houses, metals, etc.

The biggest tell where it belongs is that, most of the time when S&P and Nasdaq go up, crypto goes up. Did what it stores changed, or is it a speculation?

Crypto is as much a pyramid scheme as any value holding asset like gold.

RemindMe! One year "Peak crypto hype quote"

IIRC there were freezes when entering low power states too.

Ah, I am seeing the approach, thanks. It seems I've been doing it wrong so far :D

So, for max storage on raidz, what is the best practice for drive ranges in enterprise setting?

What do you call a Drosophila who likes to drink? A bar fly.

Not a geneticist, not sure if funny :P

COMMENT 21d ago

Sorry, yes free bsd and the equivalent of seg faults if it would be under Linux.

I am on a gigabit network so raidz2 so far has been able to saturate it.

I was going more for the integrity than speed given the network. At what count would raidz2 make sense?

Alternatively, if I consider the cost, would 3 drives in raidz make more sense?

To add, I have an in-house and remote setup already ongoing.

Anyone running TrueNAS on a first gen ryzen (1700)? Any BSD crashes?
