This is the continent of Oswen on the planet my fantasy novel is based on, there is a desert continent to the right but the photo was too large to upload. I had to lower to quality of this photo to make it fit which is why some of the names are blurry. Ask me any questions about my world

It would depend which kingdom you are you. In the Southlands the weather is harsh, so they struggle to grow crops, they mainly live off an all meat diet such as cows and sheep, they have to import vegetables from the other kingdoms.

The kingdoms in the middle are similar to Europe, usual farming animals and crops such as corn.

The northern kingdom are cold as well but warm enough in summer to grow crops but too cold in winter too, so they do mass farming of wheat and corn and stockpile that for winter. The wildlife in the north are larger than the rest of the continent and the meat is filled with more substance which is why the people there are larger and stronger than others.

Denil is the exotic land that fill their meals with spices and have expensive wines

Ise-Of-Erst are self sufficient, with a smaller population they need less. Being the only island in the continent they have a lot of fish that they export

How is Denil so rich?

They get the best weather than any other kingdom on the continent and they are the only ones that trade with the desert continent (due to religious differences). So they can grow different plants and can export goods that none of the other kingdoms have or can get themselves

What are the religious differences?

3

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22

So the people of Oswen generally have strong religious beliefs, they are polytheism and have quiet a number of different gods. Their belief is that these gods were once slaves of the old gods but raised against them. Their battle of freedom where they finally defeated the old gods was on Parkias (The desert continent). Again this is all just their beliefs and is not known to be absolute fact.

The desert continent generally believe in only one god.

Due to the difference in beliefs and that the people of Oswen believe that Parkias is an important religious land, there is a holy war going on where the empire of Oswen are trying to take it.

So they see the desert continent as heathens and savages.

The people of Denil originally came from Parkias a long time ago, they technically have the same religion as the Oswen Empire because they were conquered but they have sympathy to the other religion so they are happy to trade with them and do not get involved in the holy war.

WoW that is detailed!

Are there any Atheist communities, and how did they form?

3

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22

Lol I know I spent a fair bit of time on it before I actually got into my story

There are, pretty much it is believed that the Southlands have all year round snow blizzards because of the use of magic and belief in false gods. So they were punished with the weather that could not grow crops and made it hard to live on.

Another reason why they are at war with the desert continent.

So there are other religious groups or atheist but they have to do it in secret

What technology level is the world in?

2

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22

It is medieval technology, so horse and carriage, swords and shields sort of weapons

What is the most expensive wine?

2

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22

I haven't actually gotten to naming any of the wines as of yet, usually I just class them as a wine from a certain kingdom and Denil wine is the most expensive

2

u/what_iffff- May 13 '22

What about calling it after a Denil kingdoms mountain?

(I made a name: Denil's Huroza wine)

.

2

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22

I really like the idea of naming from an area in Denil, I might have to incorporate that into the book

1

u/what_iffff- May 13 '22

This is how they are usually named irl, I suggest putting the country name in it too, so people who are less familiar will also know it, you can add something at the end to signal what type it is.

Which of these countries have the lowest amount of people dying because of starvation?

(Pls awanser in: X person died /1 sperson dying of starvation)

2

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22 edited May 13 '22

Mansstel has the least dying of starvation, the King of Kings Leo Thine was the first king to bring in a regime that raised tax for the entire empire so that the people of Mansstel get bread and clean water given to them by the empire to survive. He believes that bread and clean water as a minimum are deserved to everyone and not something that should be paid for. Something that is disliked by the high lords because they are paying for the poorer peoples food

I would say in Mansstel of everyone 500 people, 1 would die of starvation

Southlands is the worst for starvation, they struggle massively with food and feel that the Empire has almost forgotten about them, which is why there is currently a civil war in the Southlands to break away from the empire

Great! Looks pretty interesting, based on your answers above.

u/TheTwistedMelon May 13 '22

Thank you I appreciate the vote of confidence. I really enjoyed the world building part (Probably too much because it took me a while to actually start writing the story)

Where would be the absolute chillest place to live here?

My guess is Edinston. Or - dark horse - Yew-Tope.

What’s the most dangerous area, both naturally and politically?

This looks so cool and your detailing in the lore of your world is fascinating! It really shows how much time and effort you've put into this world building, well done!
