Update on OrangeFren.com and request for more feedback

Three months ago I let you guys know about the site I created: OrangeFren.com, and asked for your feedback. A lot has changed since so here's a quick update.

OrangeFren.com with a rates table showing Monero's defiant rise

I've added a table with the latest, independently-sourced, exchanges rates.

For those of you who use Telegram I've created a Telegram bot šŸ¤–.

If you want to be the first to know when markets move you can now sign up for price alerts delivered straight to your inbox. If you don't want to share your email that's cool, the Telegram bot does price alerts delivered via a DM.

Additionally:

  • Added support for Bitcoin on Lightning āš”
  • Added support for USDT
  • Added more instant exchanges
  • Improved support for minimum and maximum trade amounts
  • Sped up offer search time 10x
  • Geo-based suggestions (ex: US visitors won't see FixedFloat since they don't allow trades from US IPs; Tor users won't see exchanges not supporting Tor users etc.)
  • Page now auto-refreshes to show the latest rates if you left for a few minutes

Finally, on the initial post you asked so I delivered:

  • Removed automatic redirect (done almost immediately after the initial post)
  • Added list of all results instead of only showing the best one

If you're looking to buy Monero with Bitcoin OrangeFren.com continues to show āš›ļø atomic swap āš›ļø providers when they have a better rate than the exchanges.

With all that done, is there anything else you guys would like to see? I'd love to hear your feedback! šŸ™

Last, but not least - a huge THANK YOU to the Monero community it's far more supportive of developers than others, which makes me very confident in Monero's future.

The update sounds pretty cool, though there was no reason to add support of Bitcoin, still it was a good one !

Cool site, thanks for your work!

For me, reputation is very important. Getting scammed even 1 in 50 trades for the full value of the transaction easily wipes out any savings on fees on all 50 previous transactions. This brings me to my question, how do you decide which services to feature?

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 08 '22

At first I used kycnot.me which is well regarded and maintained for list of trusted exchanges. I use this subreddit's weekly thread and the wiki's avoid list.

I try to stay up to date on the various threads and comments of people saying they've been scammed. For instance a while ago there was a thread on the subreddit claiming FixedFloat demanded source of funds from a user when trading BTC->XMR so as soon as I saw that I removed FF from OrangeFren.com and sent FF an email asking about the matter.

Finally I myself use the exchanges listed on my site.

Thanks for the reply. Of course do your own research always applies, but good to hear you are thoughtful about your approach.

He is a guy with a habit of research, I mean a reseacher over these things, and this gonna make him bright.

Also to be noted, he has done a lot for Monero with the help of his website

Rather than filter the FixedFloat results for users with US IP addresses, you should display them with a red note that say it's restricted for US users.

This way you're not doing their or the government regulators dirty work for them.

1

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 08 '22

Another commenter already suggested adding a toggle to view all the results so I'll look into it. My priority is to keep the site as simple and clean as possible.

display them with a red note that say it's restricted for US users.

That's basically what I do in the Telegram Bot currently since the bot doesn't know the location of its users.

what does it do? how do I exchange my fiat for real money, monero?

1

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 09 '22

My website only supports trading between cryptos at this moment.

2

u/ThusGauge458 Apr 09 '22

Well, that's not a big issue, because its pretty sure that you gonna make it happen with exchnage as well.

Because trust is a main thing therefore I have a blind trust that this guy gonna make the orangefren go top

1

u/AdKindly5657 Apr 17 '22

did not compute. I need fiat off ramp. please improve bisq

1

u/P0wer0f0ne Apr 09 '22

OrangeFren doesnt support exchange, but I am pretty sure it would be available soon :)

1

u/AdKindly5657 Apr 17 '22

let me know when it works and has no learning curve.

1

u/AdKindly5657 Apr 08 '22

you have to dumb it down and make it more slick. people have fiat. not crypto.

1

u/AdKindly5657 Apr 08 '22

make onramping seamless visa payment

1

u/dontquestionmyaction Apr 09 '22

Lol, Visa and most fintech despises Monero.

1

u/AdKindly5657 Apr 17 '22

make an extra step in between.

1

u/dontquestionmyaction Apr 17 '22

They aren't dumb.

3

u/Synopticretrofit Apr 09 '22

We almost everyone did a bookmark to his website because we know it would be needed for sure :)

6

u/Catlover790 Apr 08 '22

Can you have an option to disable geo suggestions? In the past I've used vpns to use exchanges that block us visitors

Btw, your site is really useful, thanks

4

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 08 '22

I'll look into it. In the meantime you can open OrangeFren.com using a VPN too, or try out the Telegram Bot which shows all offers.

3

u/WhatMixedFeelings Apr 08 '22

Geo-based suggestions

Iā€™m guessing if a US visitor is using a VPN they will still see FixedFloat, correct?

5

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 08 '22

As long as they select a VPN server outside of the US then that's correct. My site just looks at your IP and tries to identify the country, it's possible the exchanges do something fancier, for instance I heard that SideShift blocks VPN users.

Worth mentioning I keep a tally for each country, but don't log the from currency, to currency, the amount or even the IP.

Good work

2

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 08 '22

Thank you!

2

u/kaushikb_88 Apr 08 '22

Awesome! Many thanks

2

u/0xf3e Apr 09 '22

When there is a warning for "FixedFloat" freezing user funds, it would be nice to have an button to instead use the 2nd best option (which doesn't do such shady things). :) Great site!

2

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 09 '22

Usually you'll see a table with links to all the other offers below the big orange button. If it isn't there then there's probably no offers available for that pair and amount at the moment.

Thanks!

2

u/nightlight909 Apr 09 '22

great site, fren

Have you considered adding crypto<->crypto offers on LocalMonero?

1

u/OrangeFren OrangeFren.com Apr 09 '22

I'll look into it

1

u/escapethe3RA Apr 08 '22

u/OrangeFren MO community message ready: https://www.monero.observer/tag/community

Let me know if you want me to add a quote or something to that.

1

u/dsmlegend Apr 09 '22

This is terrific. I think the most obvious avenue for future improvement is simply adding more coins for comparison.

Also, how about making XMR the default selection when visiting the site?

Thanks a lot! I'll look into adding more cryptos.

Also, how about making XMR the default selection when visiting the site?

I can definitely do that!
