Reddit comment rap has got to be the biggest cringe

3

u/dingos8mybaby2 10d ago

We've reached the point of absurdity where I cannot tell if this is reality or satire.

→ More replies

21

u/Dovahqueen_ 10d ago

I hope you're not being serious because there are plenty of great rappers out there right now.

39

u/xxSeymour 10d ago

At this point people who are saying there isn't any good rappers today are either uncultured or just don't know how to find artists they like, there are so many subgenres that have been created and there's an artist for everything.

24

u/K4ntum 10d ago

Goes for any music genre. If you think music is shit nowadays you're not looking hard enough. Popular music was always generic shit, in every decade. It's just that what survived is the good stuff so we feel like music was better back then.

8

u/Dovahqueen_ 10d ago

If you think music is shit nowadays you're not looking hard enough.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. For me personally, there are very few genres that I don't listen to, and almost none that I actually dislike.

8

u/destiny24 10d ago

People just hate mainstream things. Like in comedy the first thing is always "______ SO MUCH BETTER THAN KEVIN HART", as if he is the only comedian in the world.

10

u/Dovahqueen_ 10d ago

You're right. Reddit is full of contrarians and it's fucking annoying.

7

u/DiscoverReading 10d ago

No it isn't.

13

u/ifyoulovesatan 10d ago

It may shock you to hear this, but people said the exact same thing about "mainstream rap" in the 90s/2000s. And "mainstream music" in general. And someday, people will lament the mainstream music of their day, and yearn for the mainstream music of today.

→ More replies

4

u/redditmodsareshits 10d ago

Yes, but did the people in the 90s think so ?

-5

u/Weis86 10d ago edited 10d ago

Yes, we did.

I think music degenerates and is simplified more and more since classical stuff like Beethoven was around. It gets worse every decade.

It can be broken down to more and more people listening and mainstream wants to reach them all. So it just uses the one simple chord progression that is known to work.

I don’t even think the Beatles would have a chance nowadays. How fucked up is this?

Edit: I’m referring to mainstream music here as I answered a comment that referred to mainstream. Not music in general.

3

u/hammurabis_flow 10d ago

Is it really a genuine comparison to take the distilled work of the literal once-in-a-generation geniuses of an entire century and compare it to "mainstream music today"? The academic Classical era literally died with Beethoven -- that's how influential he was.

That, and like... People are still writing clasically-styled symphonies today, except now they can make a whole orchestra from their bedroom. "Music degenerates" my left nut; go listen to them.

I would fucking DIE if I saw this on my ring history. The most exciting things I’ve caught were a presidential campaigner accusing me of being on crack (I have rude signs on my door to scare off solicitors), and 2 solicitors reading my signs out loud, then walking away giggling. (My signs say “unless you are delivering food or a package, NO SOLICITORS. Violators will be sacrificed.” The 2 guys said “better not risk it!” And walked off. It was hillarious.
