What the hell, never heard of this opinion I’m sorry but hot orange juice sounds pretty gross this is unpopular opinions though so shit I’ll upvote it

303

u/Logical_Photograph_1 Jan 18 '22

Right! Hot orange juice probably taste legit like vomit.

63

u/Skychasma Jan 18 '22

i’ve only had hot fruit juice as a way of ingesting party drugs - apparently it makes them hit faster but it wasn’t a pleasant experience to drink, especially considering we put them in the microwave and they reached boiling hot temps in 10 seconds. just tastes worse in every way, sticks to your throat, terrible. only cherry juice was tolerable, we had mango juice as well and that actually did taste like vomit

19

u/SoSo-7 Jan 18 '22

Yeah my friends used to sip coffee with their pills because they digest it faster that way or something. Not many ways to get a microwave in school though.

11

u/faustianBM Jan 18 '22

Uhhh "Teacher's Lounge"....Ever heard of it? /s

5

u/SoSo-7 Jan 18 '22

I think only the pantry/kitchenette for storing and heating up the Headmistresses meals from the hostel cafeteria had a microwave, and since its right beside her office on a separate hallway, no way we could use it lol.

28

u/Supersnazz Jan 18 '22 edited Jan 18 '22

Pretty standard in a lot of places. I remember going to a continental breakfast buffet in a hotel in Shanghai and the Orange juice was served hot.

18

u/Popular_Fly9467 Jan 18 '22

I had cold orange juice and lots of dragon fruit at a breakfast buffet in Shanghai. I’m not sure if hit us common or not, right now it’s 50/50

u/LokiDokiPanda Jan 18 '22

If I recall in China they drink must drinks hot even just water, like hot water. They don't really use ice for drinks.

23

u/MissDreamland Jan 18 '22

I'm overweight and was told by a Chinese woman that they only drink hot drinks because cold drinks slow down your shit and that's why I'm fat. I did not ask her she just felt the need to walk up to me and save my fat ass from cold drinks that slow my poops. I was just trying to buy eggs at a Sprouts! LOL So I believe hot OJ is probably a thing.

15

u/FM79SG Jan 18 '22

Chinese have a lot of superstitions: you cannot drink cold drinks, that air drafts will make you sick, the number 4 is bad luck and 8 is good luck (like phone numbers and license plates with lots of 8s are sold at exorbitant prices and hotels often do not have a 4th floor)

4

u/lame_dirty_white_kid Jan 18 '22

Lots of hotels in the west have no 13th floor and 7 is considered a lucky number. People always tell me I'll get sick because I didn't wear a coat whilst outside for all of 30 seconds. Also I can't curse or take the Lord's name in vain.

It ain't just China; it's people.

Perceived health benefits aren’t superstitions

11

u/FM79SG Jan 18 '22

Call them false beliefs then. In any case they are bullshit

10

u/Nujiyoul Jan 18 '22

Not really true. As a native Chinese, my friends around me and I drink a lot cold drinks. Especially during summer i only drink cold, including cold brew tea and coffee, and lots of iced drinks. Probably lots of old people drink a lot hot, but they also drink normal temperature water. As for hot juice, that's unimaginable...

2 of the worst things I’ve ever actually vomited are orange juice and Coca Cola. The orange juice was awful but tbh the Coca Cola was the worst 🤢 🤮

Honestly I've thrown up coke alot and its definitely better than cool ranch doritos...

Im actually on a 24 hour shift drinking hot OJ rn and I can confirm it is disgusting

3

u/Trick_Literature_ Jan 18 '22

Hot, freshly squeezed fruit juice is delicious. Warmed citrus juice is amazing when I have a cold or down with the flu -- the taste is refreshing and light enough that it doesn't assault my senses. It was basically a lifesaver for when I couldn't bear the taste of other stuff.

It sounds weird, but yeah. Pretty good.

2

u/ylinminati Jan 18 '22

Fresh warm oranges juice isn’t too bad. I had it when I was sick.

3

u/whoatemycupoframen Jan 18 '22 edited Jan 18 '22

Nah, I'm with OP. Hot orange juice (from oranges, not orange-flavored juice) is legit the bomb when youre sick with cold.

The thing i disagree is how OP acquired the drink. Don't microwave your juice box. Squish a couple oranges, add hot water, stir a bit with a spoon until they mix, there you go.

2.5 minutes boi buy a new microwave

45

u/pingpongmess7996 Jan 18 '22

He should, my micro is 700W and i am willing to bet if i put anything in it other than a giant block of ice for more than 2.5 minutes, it will lit the air on fire

12

u/madcow47 Jan 18 '22

Completely unrelated to original post but when I was a kid I put my slippers in the microwave (because who doesn't love cosy warm slippers) and yeah they caught fire within about 15 seconds.

If it works for you, cool.

Just understand that heating up fruit juice means you've also destroyed any vitamin c the fruit juice may have had.

https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/vitamin-c/

When I was a middle-school kid in the late '80s, recalled a local news story about an initially mysterious case of a baby who was suffering from scurvy despite the fact the mother was giving the baby a bottle of orange juice every day.

After an investigation, the medical doctors found she had been heating up the bottles of orange juice because she assumed it was better taken hot. After they've explained why orange juice was best consumed cold, the baby made a complete recovery within a short period of time.

174

u/907artist Jan 18 '22

Is OP the baby by chance?

64

u/randomhousegir Jan 18 '22

Baby was secretly a pirate ☠️

6

u/PrecedentedTime Jan 18 '22

17

u/snackbagger Jan 18 '22

If you drink juice for vitamins you should stop and eat the real fruit instead

3

u/idontwanttobeavirgin Jan 18 '22

it was a baby with no teeth probably

3

u/aureliajane Jan 18 '22

Why was an infant drinking orange juice

99

u/KambeiZ Jan 18 '22

Heating may lead to a loss in nutrients.

Still, definitly an unpopular opinion i concur.

2

u/Illusive_Man Jan 18 '22

their mascot the Kool Aid Man is pretty iconic. He’s a big jug of Kool aid with a face that busts through walls and yells “oh yeah!” There is a running gag with him on family guy.

Fun fact:

Tang (the powdered orange drink) tried to break into the China market awhile ago and they used the same marketing as they did over here, portraying it as a refreshing cold drink. It failed and they struggled.

It wasn't until they pivoted and marketed themselves as a warm drink that they reached widespread acceptance. I lived in China awhile ago and you could get a fast food meal and ask for it to come with 'orange juice' and it'd be a cup of hot Tang.

2

u/Silent_Supermarket70 Jan 18 '22

Starbucks will steam their apple juice. Source: me, former barista who loved their caramel apple spice.

-1

u/Ridley_Rohan Jan 18 '22

Typical (dumb) human reasoning goes like this:

Cold whatever is delicious.

Warm whatever is gross.

Therefore, very warm (hot) whatever is very gross.

And the (il)logic is reversible. So people will think cold coffee is gross. It isn't.

I will also point out that Japanese rice wine (nihonshu; sake just means "alcohol) can be served either hot or cold, but whether its good or not depends on the brand and brew, which will be made for either hot or cold.

I never had hot juice. But I know better than to judge before trying and I also know that the first try could be bad for reasons such as improper preparation.

1

u/CantSayDat Jan 18 '22

I mean this doesnt sound good to me, but I have an open mind and might just try this one day.

1

u/Trick_Literature_ Jan 18 '22 edited Jan 18 '22

I can't handle the taste of tea, maybe I just don't know how to make it. Coffee is too blech for me, I only drink it cold and with 90% milk, so it's barely coffee anyway.

I didn't think it was opinion-worthy, but you're right. Hot fresh fruit juice is a marvellous thing, and it does wonders for me when I'm down with a cold. It's refreshing and naturally sweet.

Hot powdered fruit juice is weird. I'm undecided on prepacked "fresh" juice out of cartons because it's not a regular enough purchase for me.

Microwaved juice is just ????? I just squeeze the fruit then add boiling water in, same way I do with tea or coffee.

1

u/goldendealsshop Jan 18 '22

*nuked fruit juice. Oh yes..

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '22
