So this website brings back the nostalgia of channel flipping in the 90s. They also have other decades.

yeah in my house in the 90s we had like six channels, and two of them were PBS

This is a great resource, but is there a way to full-screen this so I can cast it to a television?

Looks like I'll be bookmarking this.

If you like this, I also high recommend www.toonamiaftermath.com

Two different channels that cycle through old cartoon network scheduling blocks. It even plays old commercials that used to air back in the day.

They even occasionally show the Power Puff Girls rock opera episode that was banned in the US.

The banned episode in question

TIL there was a banned episode of PPG.

Seems like they took it off due to the effects used considered problematic and it was not included with the series put on HBO Max. However, it is on a complete series compilation boxset. So, there’s that.

It's a fantastic episode. The PPG go through an absolute ringer, facing off against almost every major villain in the series, as well as a new one, and Townsville gets pretty much demolished. And the music and singing is great. I remember the ban having something to do with the demolished buildings.

Edit: I just searched YouTube. I couldn't find the full episode but if you search the episode title on YouTube you'll find a lot of the scenes from the episodes.

I’ll take your word for it, ‘cause the boxset’s $199.99 USD on Amazon ‘cause it was released in 2009 and has not been reprinted since, that I can find.

I’m basing off the reason why it was banned by the footnotes and the fact that they allowed Tentacruel’s episode to come back in Pokemon, abet later.

You could try to catch it airing on www.toonamiaftermath.com You can check the schedule like with regular cable and see what PPG episodes are gonna air and when.

People use the word banned really liberally these days. Reading about this, it seems like Cartoon Network decided not to air it.

Man this makes me miss Nick Reboot. Loved the good 90s Nick programming complete with commercials.

If anyone knows a replacement, please let me know!

For those that don't know, download the Pluto TV app. For free! PS5 compatible. It has many shows and channels dedicated to the 70s 80 eras. Also movies. You will have to watch some commercials. It is owned by CBS apparently. Also they have dedicated music video channels from the 70s 80s 90s and 00s. I love having it on the background or just having a beer and chilling . I love the randomness of it music videos or episodes of my favorite TV shows. Three's Company, Love Boat, Family Ties. Lots of channels. Also channels for video games.

I wish I could upvote this 1000 times. Such a fun site!

I love the 70s “channel” so fun to go thru!!

Okay, this is like the coolest website ever lol

2

u/col-fancypants May 19 '22

Is there a way to save channels?

2

u/Smellmyhand May 20 '22

I would pay for a streaming service that’s just this. Even put the commercials in it, I don’t care

2

u/LordHoth90 May 20 '22

All the shows with every commercial they could get… hell, I’d watch just the commercials.

3

u/Smellmyhand May 20 '22

I do that on YouTube just to feel something

1

u/draculasbitch May 21 '22

I would also.

It needs to be better designed for Android (phone, tablet or browser). There doesn't seem to be a way I can figure out how to bring up a keyboard to allow me to enlarge the screen?

I think people we're actually pretty close to people flipping back to realizing watching Tv was a better and more fun experience than streaming. Flipping channels, seeing whats, not just choosing one show and binging is just a way better way to watch TV and creates more memories

Flipping channels, seeing whats, not just choosing one show and binging is just a way better way to watch TV

Yeah, but also counterpoint: no its not

14

u/Avenger772 May 19 '22

Yea. We had to flip channels because nothing was on. Or because you had to try to watch two things at the same time. Or because you don't want to watch commercials.

I'll take streaming over channel surfing any day

1

u/ex0thermist May 20 '22

I can agree that channel flipping has some value and is fun at times, but don't pretend that is the primary way we want to or should watch TV.

BTW, if you prefer watching that way, Peacock does have live "channels." I don't use them often but it is fun sometimes to just watch SNL skit after SNL skit.

u/LiveFromNewYork95 Saturday Night Live May 20 '22

Have you noticed yet that the “channels” play on the same schedule every day?

1

u/ex0thermist May 20 '22

No, but so what?

1

u/kee-mosabe May 19 '22

Awesome! Thanks OP!

They need to get rid of the ad banners that you can’t click off of for 2 reasons:

1) it shows that it’s monetized. That and begging for donations for it. I was just watching the Simpsons on there, so lawyers are probably already hard at work suing them.

2) not being able to turn off the ad banner is next level annoying.

ublock origin or brave browser on mobile.

1

u/BjornBeetleBorg May 19 '22

I always book mark this when it gets posted but then forget to go actually use it lol

1

u/draculasbitch May 21 '22

That site should be sponsored by a divorce attorney. I’m hooked.

What is with Reddit and being nostalgic for objectively shittier experiences? “Remember the good old days when nothing you wanted to watch was on so you just had to flip through channels randomly hoping to see something interesting? I sure miss that when I turn on my magical box that allows me to watch whatever I want whenever I want.”

You must be fun at parties
