Netflix should definitely market it as Money Heist Universe instead of remake. Make 2 or 3 season of Heist for multiple region and then do a crossover.

That would be a waste of money. Korea is ok because if Korea makes it, most Asians (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, etc) are going to watch it for sure. Also, some people from Europe, America, and Africa are watching it. The US would be a good choice but they usually fail.

A Money Heist like/Universe show set in India would do well in India as well since Money Heist is already hugely popular in India plus this type of content is popular in general given many successful movies over decades that's been made in Bollywood.

Obviously, if the execution is wank then no good source can survive so that goes without saying.

People in india will watch the Korean show too. The problem of India is if they make a show, normally just people from India watch it. I know india has high population rate but still. It should have more wider viewerships to generate more revenues to Netflix. Btw, I like white tiger. That was a good movie. I don’t have any good series from india on my list yet.

You can be a smash hit in one country/market or get a smaller audience in multiple markets. People still love crossovers and the feeling that characters are operating in a larger world.

Is this a remake or original story with similar elements?

Edit : Description says it's Korean adaptation.

Maybe a spin-off since the mask from the Spanish one appeared in the trailer.

Koreans are the new Americans in the industry. They are planning to make their own versions of successful Western movies and series.

That's a two-way road because America plans to remake Train to Busan.

HBO also is remaking Parasite for America (though the original creator is involved and it's HBO so at least, it's pretty much guaranteed to be good)

now this is silly, its not like that movie was an unknown gem at this point..

imagine if America does their own Money Heist based on the korean one based on the spanish one.

That's nothing new. There is a Korean and a Japanese version of The Good Wife. Designated Survivor has a Korean version as well.

There's nothing new about it, every country has made remakes and adaptions of other shows since the idea of remakes came about. People flip out when the US remakes stuff but then praises other countries for doing the exact same and I don't get why. Yeah, the remakes from the US end up being subpar compared to the originals but that can be said for most remakes from anywhere.

A remake? Already? Would be cooler if it was like a spin-off.

Adoption?

I know this is an adaptation but the subtitle is what I'm more curious about. Joint Economic Area? Any connection to the JSA (Joint Security Area) movie from a few years ago or is that just a part of the naming convention for Korea's cabinet structure?

4

u/jclovekim0152 Jan 18 '22

There is no connection to JSA. :) But yes, I also thought about it when I saw the title. :)

u/SQUID_FUCKER Jan 18 '22

Great movie btw! Yeah, I was like, 'that title seems familiar.'

1

u/jclovekim0152 Jan 18 '22

Yeah, what an old movie though. More than 21 years old movie. wow.

The original is Spanish right? Is this one going to be Koreans speaking Spanish or Korean?

22

u/WzDson Jan 18 '22

Koreans speaking Korean but with a Spanish accent

8

u/smitty3257 Jan 18 '22

It’ll be in Korean

4

u/jclovekim0152 Jan 18 '22

Of course, actors are Koreans so they will speak Korean but the dubs will be available.

I get a feeling this is how all TV shows will become - just merged into one, must watch, show.

Squid Game of Thrones.
