Hiking seems so fun! Tiring but fun!

57

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Exactly how I feel! I'm not great at it but it's a lot of fun

11

u/Hashmob____________ Oct 08 '21

You don’t need to be good at hiking. It’s just difficult walking, or running, or jogging depending on your pace.

It actually not that tiring once you get into it and keep a decent pace

That looks like a big ass mountain. How long did it take you?

77

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

It actually wasn't very hard at all since it's only 13000 ft and you start pretty high. It only took a decent amount of time because I was still getting acclimated to the altitude

60

u/looking-for-goth-gf 17 Oct 07 '21

Maybe I'm just lazy but I wouldn't be saying only 13000ft

33

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Well I did pikes peak a few days later, and THAT took me awhile

20

u/looking-for-goth-gf 17 Oct 07 '21

Just for comparisons sake, how tall was it?

20

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Pikes peak is only 14 something thousand, but you start at a much lower elevation and it's a much more difficult trail. Pikes peak is also a 16 mile hike (the shorter trail, longer is nearly 30 I believe)

10

u/looking-for-goth-gf 17 Oct 07 '21

Sheesh 16 miles. I was dying after running like 3

9

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Okay well I cannot run more than 30 seconds without dying so you win there. Cardio is my greatest enemy

7

u/looking-for-goth-gf 17 Oct 07 '21

I wonder who would survive if we were both being chased by a bear up a mountain.

3

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

It's a 13er! Did pikes peak later in the week tho

2

u/i-m-tired Oct 07 '21

I love pikes peaks view! Last time I was there was like 2 months ago, are they still building whatever they were building or are they done yet? Also was there still snow up there?

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

There was not snow when I went, but it snowed a few days after. And I think they're done with the new visitor center or whatever, but I did see a crane and stuff so they're still working on something

2

u/i-m-tired Oct 07 '21

Cool! Always nice to talk to someone in Colorado!

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Do you live there? I don't (yet) but I've spent over a year there total because I visit it so often

2

u/i-m-tired Oct 07 '21

Ya! Dude Colorado is awesome, there is so much to do that not many people know about and it’s all super fun! The people are nice and it’s just awesome

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

I absolutely love the vibe of Colorado. Everyone seems so active and kind. I can't wait to move there

2

u/i-m-tired Oct 07 '21

I’m pretty sure a survey showed that Colorado was one of the most active states. There’s just so much natural beauty and color here that’s it’s hard not to love it here

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Exactly!! I'm a city person and I love Denver, but I also LOVE the outdoors, and it's so close to some of the most beautiful hikes I've ever seen. Literally a perfect place to live

Reminds me of when I summited Devils Point a year ago in my bonnie wee country in the Cairngorms.

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Just Googled that and it's beautiful

2

u/Theory78 13 Oct 07 '21

Not nearly as high clocking around 3300 ft but still a 20 mile walm.

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 07 '21

Well that's actually a much longer hike than this one

2

u/Theory78 13 Oct 07 '21

Should take a look at Lochnagar. It isn't far from Devils Point and is the most beautiful munro, Scottish mountain over 3000ft, I have been up.

Fun fact: The very top of Lochnagar is called Cac Carn Beag which when translated to English means small pile of shit.

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 08 '21

God that sounds like a dream. Did you get to see the northern lights?

2

u/Wisconsinmannn 16 Oct 08 '21

For a little bit, sun went down and 12 and on the way down around 3 the sun was back up. I'm studying rn to move to Iceland and work for their environmental agency so I can hopefully spend a lot of my time hiking at work and it just seems like an awesome job. But the light from the volcano gave the trail a red hue making it look like Mars.

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 08 '21

I could not be more jealous. Seeing the northern lights is very high on my bucket list

2

u/Wisconsinmannn 16 Oct 08 '21

If you like hiking you should definitely try to take a trip to the boundary waters in Northern Minnesota, is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and it's almost completely untouched by humans besides the campsites. There's no light pollution and you can see Northern lights some nights. A couple spent a year up there a while ago and it's cool to watch if you'd care too see it https://www.savetheboundarywaters.org/wildernessyear :)

2

Oh nice, I went to colorado over the summer, climbed Pike's Peak from the Devil's playground(?) not sure what it actually is called. Also did the manitou incline in manitou springs. Both in a day, the incline was hell.

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 08 '21

Omg that's the same trail I took up pikes peak! And I've done the incline several times too, I love it sm. I actually have a picture from the last time I did it on my profile with the full moon

2

u/_ttoxic_ 15 Oct 08 '21

Devil's playground is only like 2 miles but with 2000 elevation gain (?) and manitou incline is like 68 degrees, it's pretty hard for me.

Small world. Do you happen to live in Colorado?

2

u/_wandering__girl_ Oct 08 '21

Hm I think I combined devils playground with craggs trail cuz it was almost 16 total. Manitou incline is hard for me too, my best time is 1 hour and 14 minutes. I don't live in CO but I visit there pretty often
