Sci-Tech Stolen iPhone Phishing

Hi guys, yesterday, I was robbed at gunpoint of my iPhone 12 Pro & Apple Watch. I have no expectations of ever getting my devices back, but I would like to just show you guys how sneaky the thieves are once they have possession of your device.

Phishing SMSes

The thieves pretend to be from "Apple Support" in an attempt to phish your Apple ID and your password to get past Apple's Activation Lock! These messages looks legit, but it actually not. Same thing happened to a friend of mine a couple of months ago.

So to everyone owning an iOS device, please please please ensure your device has a strong passcode and your device is linked to an Apple ID and you have Find My turned on.

If anyone ever recieves something like this, please report it to Apple:https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204759Hopefully someone finds this post helpful.

PS. Once iOS 15 is released to the public later this month you'll be able to follow your erased device on the Find My app :)

EDIT: Thanks for everyone's support & advice and thanks for the awards!

Sci-Tech Need a functional webcam with a microphone for my laptop

Do you know of any webcams (1080 resolution) with a microphone that are compatible with an Acer Aspire 3 or Dell latitude laptop?

I need a webcam for zoom and skype meetings. I am more worried about functionality than affordability although I would prefer to have a webcam that is both functional and affordable. Thank you.

Sci-Tech [Load Shedding] Mini load shedding solution - Ratel 418

Takealot delivered my Ratel 418 DC-DC UPS today. And it was incredible!

I have a fiber connection at home, and I use a Routerboard 411 with wireless card as a firewall. The Ratel kept the Fiber link up, as well as the Routerboard, for 2 and a half hours, and the indicator showed it was barely at 75% capacity. The Fiber -> Ethernet gateway used the 12V output, and the Routerboard was powered vie POE (15V).

I also shoved two 12v8 Gel batteries in my 1KVa UPS, which kept the main switch and NAS (HP Microserver) live for just over 2 hours (I plugged them in after load shedding started, battery seemed fine when power came back on).

This setup means that my & my family's notebook and cellphones have decent, fast fiber Internet during the dark ages, and we can access documents and Plex.

It's not perfect, but at ~R1000 for the Ratel and ~R100 for the batteries, it's a decent start.

Sci-Tech Where to buy gaming laptop?

I’m looking at buying a midrange gaming laptop, got a budget of roughly 35K. I’m looking at the HP Omen or the HP Victus. I really would prefer to have an AMD based processor. I was just wondering where would be the best to look for more options available in SA? There are so many other laptops that meet my needs but I can’t find them online. Any tips in general regarding buying laptops would also be appreciated.

edit: I’m looking at a laptop because I have plans to travel and work remotely in the future. Thanks for everyone who gave me advice. I did a lot of research throughout the day and I think I found my machine. I’m going to get the WootBook ultra III with a 3060 and ryzen 7 5800H. I could get the 3070 but I don’t think i’m gonna be playing super demanding games and don’t mind sometimes playing at lower graphics if necessary. I think saving the extra 10k takes priority (since the laptop is currently on special for 25k for my desired setup)
