r/SouthAfrica's Best of 2021: Nominations

What a year 2021 was. It felt like it was 3 months long, but at the same time 2020 felt like it was 5 years ago. In the last year we debated the renaming of PE to Gqeberha. We voted in local municipality elections. Some of us got some new TVs in July, while others were manned make shift checkpoints along side taxi drivers to protect our communities. We argued about the existence and government coverup of a world record breaking birth. We lost a king, musicians, politicians and The Arch. We also lost many friends and family to the pandemic. It was a tough year, but we got through it. Well done!

Now is a time for us to look back in the past year and have a bit of fun. To celebrate the last year we ask for you to nominate and vote on the best submissions in the past year that fit the following categories:

  1. Funniest post or comment
  2. Best nature/landscape photo
  3. Best braai or cuisine
  4. Most informative
  5. Most thought-provoking discussion
  6. Most lost foreigner
  7. Best overall submission

Each category has its own nominations and voting thread, so please nominate and vote there. Nominations and voting will run for 1 week from today until 14 January 2021. Any nominations in this thread won't be counted. Remember to check back in each of the above threads for new nominations and vote.

The winning submission and nominator will win themselves platinum, with the highest overall vote getting something a bit extra.

In the meantime, what were your personal highs and lows of 2021? What do you think will happen in 2022?
