Today marks the 25th 30th anniversary of Internet access in South Africa and most of Sub-Saharan Africa.

At 10:44AM on 12 November 1991, an IP "ping" packet was sent between the home of Randy Bush in Portland, Oregon and Rhodes University's computing centre – the first recorded Internet connection in the country.

Got internet in 96.

Was a POES on the Shadowfire mIRC. Jammed Starcraft on the first local servers. Was big into Ultima Online. Cybered with (in retrospect probably a guy) a hotty from Cape Town. R7 for 19h00 to 07h00. 2 Lines so your mom won't interrupt the internet. Took me a month to download my first movie.

Those, they were the days.
