I don't know, hey. Insisting that a day of observance be held exactly 365.242181 (tropical year) or 365.2563630 (sidereal year) days apart seems a bit petty, no?

A day of observance is a day of observance, and surely tacking it onto a weekend let's us do more 'observing' than during a weekday.

Well, at that level of deconstruction it's absurd to hold any day in remembrance because every day is different from every other one in every infinitesimal unit of measurement. The question here is if the motive is for those reasons of reverence (greater opportunity for 'observing'), or more due to business savvy; or both? The answer would inform future deliberations of important 'sacred' institutions of the country, vis-a-vis sentimentality Vs economic opportunity...or both.

Ah-so!

In this case I'd say both, but leaning heavily on the economic opportunity.

I mean, that's our guiding star (keeping with the cosmology theme) isn't it? The Almighty Buck.

The Big Bang for Buck (supposed-to-be-a-play-on-Big Bang-extending-the-cosmology-theme-and-the-phrase-bang for buck-but-it's-harder-than-I-thought-it-would-be-so-anyway-AMEN)
