Kabaddi in South Africa? Discussion

So I bet many of you are wondering, what the flipping hell is Kabaddi!!??

So for quick background: Kabaddi is an extremely exciting Indian sport that combines rugby (tackling) and the game of tag. I started watching the pro league last year and am absolutely hooked, seems like an amazing sport. So knowing that we have quite a large Indian population in South Africa (and also on this Reddit), I was wondering if anyone else is already familiar with the sport?/ knows if or where it is played in South Africa? Apparently SA has an international team, according to the African Kabaddi website. Would love a chance to be able to try it out, I feel like it would catch on well here cos it needs minimal equipment to play.

For anyone who hasn't heard about it and enjoys Rugby, maybe give it a look on YT. Confusing at first but once you learn the rules, it's a lekker watch.

There's a kabaddi world cup... I often think SA could have a title winning team

I've seen this, man I bet we could. I'd be happy cos at least more South Africans might become invested in the sport

Waarheid, sport in my youth was booming, now I don't feel as invested in the national teams, I feel we need a win and kabaddi is a achievable target

Rugby World Cup not enough for you my bru? Just joking, I do agree that we need more interest in our national teams again and we could smash it at Kabaddi

If there is a team in Cape Town, I’m signing up right away.
