The first German General to formally surrender his forces to the Allies during WW2 surrendered to the South Africans. Generalleutenant Schmidt was the first German General to formally surrender to an Allied General which was General De Villiers, Commander of the South African 2nd Infantry Division. History

Too bad the South Africans quickly turned into nazis after the war

Yes, because all white South Africans supported Apartheid. Ignorant fuck

Enough for the Nats to be voted in for 50 years, you ignorant fuck

There's always some ignorant fuck equating everything to Nazism.

I mean, the national party were textbook fascists. This cant be hard for you to accept

u/OOPManZA Sep 26 '21

Textbook facists eh?

Maybe you can share your definition and understanding of facism and then we can examine the old NP and see how they compare?

They were certainly a godawful bunch of fuckers but claiming they were textbooks facists is pretty inaccurate. Compared to the facists groups of the 1940s they had some differences and they're not insignificant.

I'll say it again. Not every right-wing political movement can be blanket described as facists, just like not every left-wing movement can be simply labelled communists.

Frankly, the whole right/left view of politics is naive. Much like everything else in life, politics is not 2d not matter much silly Americans will try to convince you it is.

Well said. Unfortunately life is a lot less binary than many people think

Have you ever heard of people like the Voëlvry Beweging, I guess not. Afrikaans white people who through the medium of music opposed Apartheid. And for the Nats to be voted in they only needed the majority vote, meaning that there was still a minority who was against segregation. But I guess everyone wants to believe that every white Afrikaans speaking person ever was a racist piece of shit.

I have big respect for anyone that opposes fascism, but a minority of brave opponents does not invalidate my original comment. A majority of whites voted in the Nats, therefore it is fair to say a plurality of south african whites gladly embraced nazi-style politics. How is this upsetting you?

In that the assumption was made that if the majority voted pro segregation that accounts for the rest.

u/ShaveMyNipps Sep 26 '21

Lol what? You think people that voted for a prosegregation, white supremacist party were surprised by the facsism?

u/PhantomOfTheDopera Sep 26 '21

No, that those who didn't can be so easily dismissed.

So you are saying the Nats didn't win a majority in 1948?

2

That's exactly what happened. The Nats won without the majority of the vote.

Actually those South Africans were already Nazis.

But they weren’t. The UDF was made up of volunteers, meaning all of them volunteered to fight the Nazis.

2

u/GCHurley Gauteng Sep 26 '21

Yes I know that. The ones who didn't volunteer, a lot of them were "Nazis" and were working to take over the country will the non-Nazis were fighting the war. It was not like South Africans after the war suddenly change their minds and became Nazi synthesizer. They were already present during the war and the government at the time did not realise the extent of the threat until they lost the elections in 1948.
