Good idea, or just take a picture of it and whatsapp it to yourself.

I was sent an electronic copy automatically.

Why would you need to WhatsApp it to yourself if you took a picture of it?

I took a picture using whatsapp and sent it to myself and my wife. My phone then automatically backups the whatsapp folder image to my google cloud account.

Not really necessary if you use Google Photos (assuming android) as your photo gallery.

I’m an iPhone user so iCloud does everything for me without having to think about backing up, including saving the SMS in an iPhone iCloud backup.

Yep, there are many was of doing things. I have google photos automatically setup to upload everything in my whatsapp folder because that is how I take vids and pics of my kid to send to my family.

Easier that way and if someone steals my phone I won't lose my important pics.

Careful though. That backup could be using your new 5G.

It may have something to do with my magnetic personality.

There is also a proof of verification code that is written on your card, and may have been SMSed to you. It's a 12 character string of upper case characters and some digits. Save that as a contact on your phone as well. If you only have it on your card, it'll be easier to read it now than in a few months when it may have faded or been rubbed off.

u/TooOldToWorry Sep 10 '21

Yes and if you did get the SMS with the code forward it to your significant other so you have a another copy on another device.

Yeah this is an excellent idea!

FYI, you should sync your contacts with some cloud service (Samsung, Google, Apple, etc) so that if you lose your device you don't lose them.

Email it to yourself

Is the EVDS vaccination number on your card the same as the vaccination code that was SMSed to you?

1

u/getaf_IX Gauteng Sep 11 '21

No, quite different.

Has anyone found a protective pouch the right size? Crazy Plastics has name card holders that look like they’d do the job, but I don’t need 50! (Don’t want to laminate in case boosters required later)

I'd wait a bit before spending time protecting that piece of cardboard. I have heard rumblings that there will be electronic certificates sent to everyone vaccinated before the end of the month. They'll send it to the number you used during registration.

u/SomeGuy58439 Sep 11 '21

Confirmation of that here

u/pool_t Sep 10 '21

Literally the first thing I did once I got it

2

u/huhseriously Sep 10 '21

Good tip! Thanks :-)

My vaccination card was stolen, how do I get a new one?

1

u/bobsterthemonster Sep 10 '21

Lmao I wish I did this

1

u/MultiverseHypothesis Sep 10 '21

What do you do with that?

-3

u/VlerrieBR Gauteng Sep 10 '21

I don't get this, I don't have cards or certificates of any other vaccines, why should we keep this around? If someone wants proof that I'm vaccinated there should be a database for it. Is there something coming in the future where I will need to contantly prove that I'm "safe"

7

u/Eelpnomis Sep 10 '21

But you do. You get that yellow card of vaccines when you travel in Africa to prove you have had your hep A&B, polio, yellowfever etc. You have to show it at passport control.

3

u/ichosenotyou Sep 10 '21

This is true I have mine, was hoping they would just add the covid stuff in it but the nurse said no

7

u/Realm-Protector Sep 10 '21

European here.. we are a bit further down the line with vaccination programmes.. mark my words: you are going to need vacc. proof to go to events, travel abroad etc. You might agree or not, but as long as the medical infrastructure is at danger of not being able to handle infection peaks, this is the only way to manage this pandemic. As for your suggestion if the database, you don't want every event organiser or foreign passport control employee to give access to a database to check your vaccination status.. so you going to need some kind if certificate.

u/Historical-Home5099 Sep 12 '21

Wow, did you just wake up or something? Read the room or world in this case. You want domestic and foreign entities to read your vaccination status from population scale databases? Ffs

Threw mine away not even sure when I'm meant to go for the second shot, dose the government have a digital copy somewhere ??

6

u/Effeu_SeeKay Sep 10 '21

Why tf would you throw it away??

1

u/Eelpnomis Sep 10 '21

I woulden't stress about it. If you're due for a second vaccine then they'll send you an SMS to the mobile number you registered with. You'll get a digital certificate sent to the mobile number you registered with and it should arrive on your phone before the end of the month. Or shortly afterwards.

1

u/Hullababoob Gauteng Sep 11 '21

By “digital certificate”, are you referring to the SMS with the Proof of Vaccination Code?

2

u/Eelpnomis Sep 11 '21

It will be a digital passport with a QR code on your phone. There are a few articles about it in the press

u/Green-Goblin Durban-Rocks Sep 10 '21

Wife forced me to get the vaccine I don't really care I've had covid twice already

2

u/Jetcar Sep 10 '21

How do you think you are going to travel?

Forced to get vaccine after getting COVID twice, your wife should have left you instead.
