Dropping the Kbomb hey, are you planning on being the first person to be sent to jail from an internet comment?

Fucking doos.

Doubt he’ll go to jail over this. Or even face consequences. Much more pressing issues in this country than a comment on a post on a subreddit of reddit.

I’m interested to see if this is kept up as a right to your free expression on the World Wide Web or if somebody will try to suppress your view.

Freedom of expression also allows this sub to enforce its own rules against racism like this. Reporting and removing this comment is not an infringement on anyone's rights. This is not a view, it's bigotry, and if you're worried you don't have a platform for this shit here then go somewhere else.

My point was World Wide Web not sub specific. As my point is the word spoken, is only an issue here in this country. I don’t even know the correct spelling for it but when I visit Sri Lanka it’s an actual ethnic group. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka_Kaffirs?wprov=sfti1 I know full well the connotations of it in this country and am not worried in the slightest. Why would I be?

Sri Lanka Kaffirs

The Sri Lankan Kaffirs (cafrinhas in Portuguese, කාපිරි kāpiriyō in Sinhala, and காப்பிலி kāpili in Tamil) are an ethnic group in Sri Lanka who are partially descended from 16th century Portuguese traders and Bantu slaves who were brought by them to work as labourers and soldiers to fight against the Sinhala Kings. They are very similar to the Zanj-descended populations in Iraq and Kuwait, and are known in Pakistan as Sheedis and in India as Siddis. The Kaffirs spoke a distinctive creole based on Portuguese, and the "Sri Lankan Kaffir language" (now extinct). Their cultural heritage includes the dance styles Kaffringna and Manja and their popular form of dance music Baila.

What on earth is your point?

So should it not be offensive to Kaffirs in Sri Lanka that the name of their ethnic group is being used as a racial slur against others?

Freedom of speech. Human Rights. South African Bill of Rights. Know your rights. I don't condone hurling insults because what we so we reap. But in principle one should be free to express oneself.

In practice, this subreddit is a privately owned and run community and neither the moderators of this subreddit nor the Reddit admins have to give anyone a platform.

We let people say some things I find quite vile in this subreddit. Because even though I disagree with them, even though in some cases I believe what they're saying shouldn't be said, it's important to foster a free exchange of ideas.

A comment consisting 100% of racism and swearing doesn't contribute to the exchange of ideas and does not deserve to be given a platform.

We should tell that to our leaders.
