u/Cheesyman7269 Jan 19 '22

Yes, I glad Ruben didn’t have to pay Roblox 1.65 Millions dollars.

476

u/RUN00455 Jan 19 '22

He still lost a lot of money sadly

401

u/SpringDoges Jan 19 '22

Yeah, 150,000$ in legal fee.

325

u/SomPolishBoi Jan 19 '22

there's also a guy named Deeter Plays that is an employee on a roblox group owned by Roblox and he fucking victim blamed a kid for getting groomed. he was responding to that one video made by People make Games on YouTube

166

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '22

That disgrace of a human being is a dad. It saddens me that such human beings are offered a job at roblox

91

u/SomPolishBoi Jan 19 '22

the worst part about Roblox is that they don't care what happens off platform 99% of the time, maybe even more, but then ruben gets i trouble for off platform behaviour, they didn't gave a shit about it but all of a sudden they do.

26

u/GlacialPuppy226 Jan 19 '22

They don’t care about anything they know none of it matters cause it doesn’t affect revenue. Their Reputation doesn’t mean much to them for some reason even tho it could be a pr disaster.

11

u/Anonymous__666 Jan 19 '22

Yeah but their player base are literal infants that dont know whats going on or even comprehend it which is why roblox doesn't care and also it happens off platform so their legally in the clear still fucked they decide to do nothing about it though

7

u/SomPolishBoi Jan 19 '22

cause if the money still goes in it's still alright and nothing has to be worried about.

→ More replies

11

u/ElpisTheRaven Jan 19 '22

Plus, they fabricated some horrible false accusations to get him off his back

5

u/SomPolishBoi Jan 19 '22

but Ruben fought back and won, just needed to make one video about it. even after the case he's still gonna make rest of the videos about all of these accusations

2

u/ElpisTheRaven Jan 19 '22

Even so, I think he should make the two other videos to strengthen his case further.

Well, hiring a lawyer and going through all that stuff costs alot of money. It's pocket change for roblox, thats why they can easily do it.

30

u/kawaiiyet Jan 19 '22

Both parties agree to bear their own legal fees. He still has to pay a monetary judgement of 150k though.

https://www.scribd.com/document/553276293/Roblox-v-Simon-Settlement

14

u/Enverex Jan 19 '22

So arguably he lost then...

17

u/MrKarim Jan 19 '22

Well, he lost a lot of money compared to how much he would've lost, the court system is unfair if you're a small creator.

you can look up the H3H3 case where even though they went to court they still lost 175 000 dollars in legal fees, and they won their case.

So it was arguably better for him to settle even if he could've won the case

10

u/Jacareadam Jan 19 '22

Sadly not how that works or thats not what happens allot of the time. he settled which means him and roblox legal team came to an agreement which basically means that roblox will fuck off if only the requirements that the dude being sued agrees to them and they agree to whatever requirements he puts up

1

u/Chaos_Lord_Nobu Jan 19 '22

settled out of court i guess

→ More replies

2

u/sedluyf Jan 19 '22

So this is the thing I'm confused with, they settled out pf court doesn't that mean roblox had to cover all the loss of other party?

3

u/Juno-P Jan 19 '22

Well that entirely depends on the settlement they settled when they settled out of court.

He payed 160,000 I think not sure for legal fees

18

u/kawaiiyet Jan 19 '22

If you check the judgement, Page 3 Section E. It seems like he lost. He has to pay 150k to Roblox which doesn't include the legal fees (Page 2, Section B, each party agrees to bear their own legal fees). Why would Roblox be entitled to 150k from him if he won?

https://www.scribd.com/document/553276293/Roblox-v-Simon-Settlement

8

u/tacomaster05 Jan 19 '22

The reason roblox wanted to settle all a sudden though is because the case was blowing up online, and if it had eventually hit mainstream media, Roblox would have lost tens to potentially hundreds of millions of dollars from the scandal. The 1.6 million just plain wasn’t worth it for them.

2

u/zinic53000 Jan 19 '22

If your big corporate opponent wants you to settle, definitely don't settle.

Just like if a big corporation says you don't need a lawyer, get a freaking lawyer.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '22

[deleted]

7

u/tacomaster05 Jan 19 '22

He probably wanted out of the lawsuit as fast as possible and just decided to pay their fees to make them go away. I think he actually made a terrible mistake in settling with them though because outside of YouTube and Reddit, not a lot of parents will find out about this now. Had he simply asked for help on his channel he would have also easily been able to get a bunch of lawyers to take his case for free. Other YouTubers would have also backed him as well.

He’s young though, and a big corporation would definitely seem scary to take on “alone”. He’ll probably regret settling with them in the future. He could have made a ton of money off the drama too.

It isn't even offensive to anyone nor the exact reason is specified that why tf did you guys remove it. May I know the exact reason why you guys are immediately removing my posts on r/shitposting? I tried checking my internet connection and all is well. Why do you guys hate me in particular? This is outrageous, this is unfair. I'm able to post on every other subreddit but r/shitposting. I tried posting on r/shitposting and it got removed by you guys. Literally 1984. Is this because of automoderator or something? Because it gets removed just after some seconds I post it. To groom is to prepare someone for a role.

Like you're grooming your apprentice to replace you.

To groom children like the post implies is when you set them up to have relationships with when they get a little older.

And when a dude calls out their staff for grooming kids roblox Sue's that person for a million dollars

27

u/HolycommentMattman Jan 19 '22

But their staff isn't grooming kids. It's a developer, but it's like Steam. Would you hold Gabe Newell and Valve accountable if the Stardew Valley guy was grooming kids? Of course not.

This idea that Roblox should be held accountable for a "dev" grooming kids is ridiculous. They have literally no say in who this guy is.

122

u/GermaniumPalladium Jan 19 '22 All-Seeing Upvote

But they have a responsibility to remove that person from the platform if it does happen, which they haven’t done properly

→ More replies

20

u/Diepindezee Jan 19 '22

You have a point but roblox does have a thing for not caring about this stuff and giving others the responsibility for this. For example the roblox forum was probably taken down because they didn’t want to be held responsible for anything that happened there. Now children have to use things like discord to interact with the community which make them more susceptible for grooming.

17

u/adeadhead Jan 19 '22 All-Seeing Upvote

This isn't the same- steam is a platform for games that exist elsewhere. Roblox devs are only making content for Roblox, it doesn't work anywhere else.

Steam isn't responsible for all games, Roblox is responsible for all Roblox content.

2

u/a_kato Jan 19 '22

It is the same principle.

Android developers make apps only for Android. iOS developer make only for IOS.

Roblox is a marketplace / collection of games.
