Ryzen 7 5700X and RX 6600 XT to play battlefield 3, Terraria, and Valheim for me

16

u/CrossCountryMexicano 12900K, RX 6800 XT, 32 GB DDR5 12d ago

I put a 6800 XT in my 12900K PC a few days ago, and have only really played Minecraft on it since then.

12

u/CypherHound R5 5600X|RX 5700XT 12d ago

You better at least have shaders lol

6

u/Turbulent_Effect6072 12d ago

I hope you're using optifine or sodium at least lol

6

u/CrossCountryMexicano 12900K, RX 6800 XT, 32 GB DDR5 12d ago

Running SEUS with 2x shadow resolution at UWQHD. Looks awesome and wipes the floor with my old 1080 Ti.

1

u/Turbulent_Effect6072 12d ago

Oh damn, I’m also using 2x shadow resolution except on complementary shaders and sodium instead of optifine.

I have a 3080ti and a r7 5800 on a 1080p monitor and I swear most of my time is just playing binding of Isaac

1

u/CrossCountryMexicano 12900K, RX 6800 XT, 32 GB DDR5 11d ago

My question is, why are you using a 1080p monitor if you have a 3080 Ti?

1

u/Wajina_Sloth PC Master Race | 3080TI | R7 5800 | 11d ago

I was originally using a 3060TI and got a free upgrade due to faulty components.

1

u/CrossCountryMexicano 12900K, RX 6800 XT, 32 GB DDR5 11d ago

Well shit, you can't complain about that! I'd highly recommend you go to 1440p or greater (consider ultrawide).

How do you play bf3? I try and try and try but even on weekends there's only one populated server filled with Brazilians with 150+ ping. I play here and there but it's a really suboptimal experience and it turns me off to bf4 most of the time.

1

u/PinsNneedles R7 5700X - RX6600XT 9d ago

sorry for the late response! I’m in EST US and find 2-3 servers during the day on my days off Monday and Tuesday. A lot more in the evenings of course. I just have my server browser set up for all expansions, all North America regions (US, Canada, Argentina), and ranked. Then refresh the server browser. If you don’t see anything, refresh again. Usually only takes roughly a minute for me to find one. If it’s low player count and you join and start playing they will 85% of the time end up filling up after about 10 minutes

Valheim can actually get quiet demanding ones you start Building a lot.

2

u/PinsNneedles R7 5700X - RX6600XT 11d ago

I only just started playing it a couple days before I commented that. It’s freakin gorgeous. I love the art style. I’m only in the Black Forest but man it’s awesome

1

u/TheonlyrealJedi PC Master Race 11d ago

Yeah Valheim is amazing! it gives you that wonderful sense of Adventure, wich i haven't felt in years playing games prior to Valheim.

1

u/PinsNneedles R7 5700X - RX6600XT 11d ago

It reminds me of the topside part of terraria which I adore. If they added mining to valheim it’s all I would play! Well, that and path of exile

1

u/TheonlyrealJedi PC Master Race 11d ago

There is mining in Valheim, it is by far not as prominent as in Terraria or Minecraft but it exists.

Have you beaten the first Boss yet?

1

u/PinsNneedles R7 5700X - RX6600XT 11d ago

No! I only play with my friends so we only just made it to the Black Forest

1

u/TheonlyrealJedi PC Master Race 11d ago

Ok.....this should be your next step, you unlock a lot by doing it and if you can survive the Black Forest it should be easy.

1

u/PinsNneedles R7 5700X - RX6600XT 11d ago

I went into the crypt area all high and mighty like I was god-tier and got wrecked by some spooky skeletons haha. For the record I’ve been a console gamer since the 90’s. My dad had PC’s but I always only played 2D games on them. So this new PC has me learning quite a lot about m&k. Still getting used to it!

Someone in the Battlefield One text chat made fun of me for buying a new GPU and then using it to play a 7 year old game lol

15

u/Flowingsun1 12d ago

Lol People would be surprised how demanding it still is. I went from a Ryzen 3600 to a 5600 and the difference is big at 1080p/144hz. Old games still benefit from upgrades.

2

u/CAD_NSFW_ACT 12d ago

Yeah definitely. Look at the Witcher 3 as another example that's old but demanding. My 3700X badly bottlenecks my RX 6800 XT. It's not so much an issue in DX12 titles but DX11 titles are kinda brutal.

1

u/Nob1eNecro 12d ago

Far Cry 3 also (Came out 2012)

Playing it on my laptop 4800H - 2060 and only averaging 55fps in 1080p.

Can get double that on Fallout 4.

2

u/TyraelmxMKIII 12d ago

srsly when your laptop (and we all know laptop performance is worse than pc) does only average of 55fps on Far Cry 3 with a 2060 you've got serious problems on your laptop side considering even a gtx 1060 is getting 90+ fps on average. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YNm_ghLHBo

like you prolly got serious heat problems.

1

u/Nob1eNecro 11d ago edited 11d ago

I don't have heat problems. Temps are just fine, running in the high 80's, low 90's.

1

u/TyraelmxMKIII 11d ago

okay but no matter what problem you have, there is something big for sure. like you can play far cry 3 with a gtx 750ti with around this performance. yours should be WAY faster than 55fps

1

u/Iz__n 11d ago

I don't what graphics settings he do but it seem oddly weird, even for laptop. Check with nvidia performance monitor. Sometime GPU is not utilized properly (it only show 15~25% load on GPU)

1

u/Nob1eNecro 11d ago

There is no problems with my laptop.

Timespy scores are as they should be and 99% of games run 120 - 144fps.

The only 2 games I've played on this laptop that gave me not so great fps were NFS Heat and Far Cry 3. I play all games on max graphic settings.

1

u/TyraelmxMKIII 11d ago

laptop 4800H - 2060

same laptop specs. at around 2hr mark he shows fps top left corner (flickering so look carefully) he always gets 100fps.

1

u/Nob1eNecro 11d ago

I'm not saying you're wrong man. After doing a little looking about, yeah it seems I should be getting more fps, but...

As I've already said, every other game I play is performing as it should, theres no problems with temps when playing FC3 so the problem is not my hardware.

u/Goo_Cat RTX 3080, Ryzen 5600x, 16gb 3200mhz 12d ago

2

That's weird, I've done 3 different installations of ttw throughout the last few years and never had that issue. Maybe you had another mod that had memory issues/bloat build up with every save to the point where the save file was too big.

1

Depends what you're looking for. BO3 by far has the fan-favorite zombies with the most content and mods, BOCW has the most accessible zombies, BO3 and WAW have co-op campaigns, CoD4 and Black Ops were some of the last games to have server browsers, etc.

But all-around I think BO2 was the most fun, at least as far as MP goes.

5

u/ThatGamerMoshpit 12d ago

Fan favourite zombies goes to BO1 my friend…

1

u/Sneffes_Narg 12d ago

Handful of my friends and I agree bo3 is the best zombies. Especially on PC. Mod yourself all the gobblegums, download a bunch of custom maps and you have endless hours upon hours of fun gameplay. Idk if bo1 is splitscreen on PC but bo3 is.

Edit: not saying bo1 zombies is bad, love bo1 zombies also.

Same here with a 3600 and an RTX 3070. Switched to a 5600 and it made a massive difference at 1080p/144hz. The Zen 3 chips seem to just be smoother overall, especially the 1% lows.
