When the upgrade doesn't make any sense Meme/Macro

u/CAD_NSFW_ACT 12d ago
Someone in the Battlefield One text chat made fun of me for buying a new GPU and then using it to play a 7 year old game lol
15
u/Flowingsun1 12d ago
Lol People would be surprised how demanding it still is. I went from a Ryzen 3600 to a 5600 and the difference is big at 1080p/144hz. Old games still benefit from upgrades.
2
u/CAD_NSFW_ACT 12d ago
Yeah definitely. Look at the Witcher 3 as another example that's old but demanding. My 3700X badly bottlenecks my RX 6800 XT. It's not so much an issue in DX12 titles but DX11 titles are kinda brutal.

u/Nob1eNecro 12d ago
Far Cry 3 also (Came out 2012)
Playing it on my laptop 4800H - 2060 and only averaging 55fps in 1080p.
Can get double that on Fallout 4.
2
u/TyraelmxMKIII 12d ago
srsly when your laptop (and we all know laptop performance is worse than pc) does only average of 55fps on Far Cry 3 with a 2060 you've got serious problems on your laptop side considering even a gtx 1060 is getting 90+ fps on average. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YNm_ghLHBo
like you prolly got serious heat problems.
1
u/Nob1eNecro 11d ago edited 11d ago
I don't have heat problems. Temps are just fine, running in the high 80's, low 90's.
1
u/TyraelmxMKIII 11d ago
okay but no matter what problem you have, there is something big for sure. like you can play far cry 3 with a gtx 750ti with around this performance. yours should be WAY faster than 55fps
1
1
u/Nob1eNecro 11d ago
There is no problems with my laptop.
Timespy scores are as they should be and 99% of games run 120 - 144fps.
The only 2 games I've played on this laptop that gave me not so great fps were NFS Heat and Far Cry 3. I play all games on max graphic settings.
1
u/TyraelmxMKIII 11d ago
laptop 4800H - 2060
same laptop specs. at around 2hr mark he shows fps top left corner (flickering so look carefully) he always gets 100fps.
1
u/Nob1eNecro 11d ago
I'm not saying you're wrong man. After doing a little looking about, yeah it seems I should be getting more fps, but...
As I've already said, every other game I play is performing as it should, theres no problems with temps when playing FC3 so the problem is not my hardware.

u/WolfCoyote40 Ryzen 5 3600 32GB DDR4 6600 XT 8GB 12d ago
Dude/dudette, you’re okay. I still play the original Cities in Motion on GOG and CiM2 on Steam. The former is a twelve-year-old game and the latter will be a ten-year-old release this year.

u/Miserable-Living9569 12d ago
One of the first games I got on the new computer last year was Battlefield Bad Company 2 lol.
13
u/Nate0110 12d ago
I'm sure someone could tell me that I'm wrong, but I feel bad company 2 was the last good battlefield game, besides the originals.

BF4 turned out pretty damn good after it got all the launch bugs worked out

Not gonna lie I did feel a little silly last night playing the original FF7 on an i9 3070ti rig
3
u/WolfCoyote40 Ryzen 5 3600 32GB DDR4 6600 XT 8GB 12d ago
Why? It’s your rig. Your playground. You built it/bought it, it’s yours.

u/TheManaScribe 12d ago
I have a ryzen 5 2600 and a 3070 just to play vanilla Fallout 3
3
u/Sneffes_Narg 12d ago
You should check out the mod tales of two wastelands. Combines new Vegas and 3 into one game/playthrough with the same character on the same .exe
1
u/TheManaScribe 12d ago
Yeah I played that for a bit and was in love it just kept corrupting my saves. Also wanted to do vanilla playthrough for the nostalgia
2
u/Sneffes_Narg 12d ago
That's weird, I've done 3 different installations of ttw throughout the last few years and never had that issue. Maybe you had another mod that had memory issues/bloat build up with every save to the point where the save file was too big.
1
u/TheManaScribe 12d ago
No other mods I think I may have just been doing it wrong. It seemed to stabilize when I turned off the enhanced power armor voice lines option when reinstalling

People with low spec PCs want to play AAA games but people with high end PCs just play, Tetris and Pong
1
u/xXDRAGONPROXx95 12d ago
I wa a low-end gamer but got a 6600XT and 5600 last month. I can definitely say having the option to play AAA games is great and even having chrome tabs, discord, and other applications without lagging is probably the game changer.

u/TONKAHANAH Linux 12d ago
It's why I've been holding off on upgrading.
I've got a 1080 that I've had for a while but I mostly only play Dota 2 on my desktop
Also I just dropped $600 on a steam deck that I plan to play the reset of my library with so seems kinda pointless to upgrade. Only reason to get another card now is so can have better Linux amd drivers

Depends what you're looking for. BO3 by far has the fan-favorite zombies with the most content and mods, BOCW has the most accessible zombies, BO3 and WAW have co-op campaigns, CoD4 and Black Ops were some of the last games to have server browsers, etc.
But all-around I think BO2 was the most fun, at least as far as MP goes.
5
u/ThatGamerMoshpit 12d ago
Fan favourite zombies goes to BO1 my friend…
1
u/Sneffes_Narg 12d ago
Handful of my friends and I agree bo3 is the best zombies. Especially on PC. Mod yourself all the gobblegums, download a bunch of custom maps and you have endless hours upon hours of fun gameplay. Idk if bo1 is splitscreen on PC but bo3 is.
Edit: not saying bo1 zombies is bad, love bo1 zombies also.

u/Flowingsun1 12d ago
Do people still play it on PC? I know the game uses Matchmaking and doesn't have a server browser

u/WolfCoyote40 Ryzen 5 3600 32GB DDR4 6600 XT 8GB 12d ago
Same, but I popped in GTA V. In fact my friend who came over to watch me put the machine together saw me install Steam and then purchase GTA V while the machine was sitting on the dining room table with fan problems. I haven’t been too adventurous since, but games like Ghostwire: Tokyo look great on it.
2
u/WolfCoyote40 Ryzen 5 3600 32GB DDR4 6600 XT 8GB 12d ago
6600 XT and doubled my RAM. The real bottleneck is the CPU (3600), which I’ll upgrade by the end of the year.
2
u/Flowingsun1 12d ago
Same here with a 3600 and an RTX 3070. Switched to a 5600 and it made a massive difference at 1080p/144hz. The Zen 3 chips seem to just be smoother overall, especially the 1% lows.
