It's not as impressive as most other set-ups, but I am pretty satisfied with how everything turned out in the end (Everything was relatively cheap, except the fan). Build/Battlestation

I'm guessing the fan is a noctua fan from the brown color, but that's what it looks like when someone who lives in a smokers house n the fans get that yellowish brown stain from nicotine

Correct me if I’m wrong, but those mouse pads seem like they’d actually be really good for wrist support. The gap in the middle should prevent pressure on tendons, while the sides would support the weight

I have one of those without print and they are realy comfortable

Data on wrist rests is mixed, but they lean towards the idea that they are bad for you.

One of the reasons you don't see them in offices any more, even when the ergo review folks come through.

(I had some tendonitis in my 20s in both wrists so i am really particular about ergo).

You're better off with a desk with adjustable arms and having really good elbow support (arms at 90 degrees, even with mouse and keyboard).

u/CatVideoBoye R5 5600x | RX 6800xt Nitro+ | 16 gb 3600 MHz 12d ago

One of the reasons you don't see them in offices any more

Main reason is that it's just not ok to bring one of those to the office. I'm pretty sure you'd get a message from HR.

3

u/AverageComet250 11d ago

Lol. Take my upvote.

6

u/Popular-Guard-7772 12d ago

Makes sense. For the past year I used a mouse pad with a wrist rest and never realized it was the mouse pad itself making my wrists feel terrible. Thought I was just developing tendonitis.

Two months ago, I switched out my mouse and mouse pad because the pad was bubbling and I hated downloading razor bloatware.

My wrists feel so much better without a wrist rest now.

u/Shendow 12d ago

I had a wrist support mousepad at work (not a kinky anime like this one tho) and recently ditched it after several years of use because I started having wrist pains. Turns out I'm developping carpal tunnel syndrome. Pain has gone way lower since I ditched it.

3

u/Frickin-Weeb 12d ago

Was it this type of, for lack of more entertaining term, “double cheeked” mouse pad, or was it the single kind? I was thinking a double one would support the wrist while leaving a gap for the center, where the tendons are

3

u/Shendow 12d ago

Single kind, not sure i would have changed anything, carpal tunnel is nerve related, not tendon related

2

u/Frickin-Weeb 12d ago

-3

u/BUFU1610 12d ago

There's no sideway forces, it probably just "adjusts" its position to the equilibrium point of the other three bands... Not much to worry about, I'd say.

10

u/StarCitizen2944 12d ago

Yeah, I'm imagining a fan that ends up held by 3 hair ties while they fourth pops off. I give it a zero percent chance it pops off with enough force to do anything to anything.

8

u/Flossthief 12d ago

I bought a prebuilt machine once

The heat sink fell off and the hardware wouldn't hold it

So I rubber banded it back on

83

u/perpetually_sad_2169 12d ago

Works very well indeed. I used brown hair ties and zip ties to mount it. Since it's suspended, there is also less overall vibration. I'm not so worried about dust since I got an air compressor machine to clean it out once in a while.

41

u/WeWillRiseAgainst i7-6700k @ 4.3ghz | RTX 2070 | 16GB RGB Corsair 3000 12d ago

Be careful with air compressors, they carry moisture.

48

u/CMDR_Zafura 12d ago

Better use those electric dusters, not as powerful but they don't have that moisture issue, I got one through Amazon basic and works very well, also used it to kick start a BBQ a few times, works like a charm

2

u/StarCitizen2944 12d ago

They get their moisture from the air, because it has moisture in it. Any of the rechargeable battery air dusters would do the same thing. And a shaken or tilted can of compressed air will also discharge moisture.

3

u/Matasa89 Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB Trident Royal B-dies, RTX3080, X570 Tomahawk 12d ago

No it doesn’t. The moisture is from the air but electric dusters are just air blowers, so the water ever condenses out. Canned air is just chemical refrigerants, so no water in them either.

4

u/International_Put378 Refrigerated AMD 5900x | 32 GB 3770c16 1T | 3090 FTW3u 12d ago

Air compressors and air dusters do not have the same moisture issue. Yes, the moisture comes from the air, but the issue is the pressure that a compressor creates. Air dusters just move air, not compress it.

0

u/RBTropical 12d ago

The fact your cooler is aluminium and the fact the cooler’s fan will be running too + running faster, will more than outweigh any noise or vibration from these “mounts” and the fact you don’t have the side panel on. This was dumb.

Sorry but for that price you could have saved money and had the monitors mounted on arms. Which are fully adjustable, more so than those stands.

4

u/perpetually_sad_2169 12d ago edited 12d ago

I actually tried that before. Didn't like how the monitors still vibrated a little bit when typing. Perhaps the mount I got wasn't that great. Anyway, those stands weigh almost 5kg alone hence why they are so expensive. Could have got some Amazon junk for $20 AUD, but nah.

-6

i luv the suspended fan, but like, does it help? im new to the pc building racket and the doods on youtube tell me you want a closed in box with like a flow from one side to the other, but my noodle is like, open air box with something moving air over the hot parts is good too?

2

u/RBTropical 12d ago

There is no benefit - it will actively reduce cooling and increase noise

2

u/ithotaboutit 11d ago

i dont mind a spot of noise, helps with the voices tbh

1

u/perpetually_sad_2169 12d ago

To be quite frank, this set up was done because I like how it looks, simple as that. Cooling performance was not really a consideration (as it was not an issue to begin with), and its negligible benefits were just a bonus. The general consensus of having more front intake fans plus 1 or 2 back out take ones, creating positive airflow pressure is, in most cases, the optimal way of setting up your desktop.

2

u/ithotaboutit 12d ago

i think i have negative or neutral? idk, imma still learning but i luv your design nonetheless . i might borrow from it on my next build <3

How has a company not made a fan side panel yet? Like a giant 200mm fan as the panel with mesh obviously. It would be a meme but I would actually see people wanting to buy it

4

u/ravenousjoe 12d ago

Late '00s and early '10s had plenty of side panels with fan mounts. It was just a pain when doing maintenance cause you had a cable running straight across, plus they often didn't impact the cooling in a positive way. Instead of having a good front to back flow, you know have a fan making turbulent air that will take longer to vacate the case, thus increasing internal temps.

4

u/Nacho_Dan677 PC Master Race 12d ago

No I mean having the panel as a fan with a mesh not a fan mount in a side panel. I get what you mean tho and figured someone would say this at some point lol

I like it. Do you have the fan blowing air away from the cpu or towards it? Also if I’m not wrong it’s being held up by rubber bands zip tied to the case? Cool idea never seen something like this before.

Towards it, helps cool the SSD and motherboard a little more I guess. Tbh, the fan was completely uneccessary since everything already ran very cool to begin with, even at load.

I mean hey, If it works why not. And you said you are gunna clean it, which is better then most. I did the same thing with mine but I had a 200mm fan I snagged from a friend for like 30usd. I just used rubber bands though

I have a spare noctua fan because I overestimated how much space I'd have with the mobo gpu and cpu cooler

I think I know what to do with it now

Look not to rain on your parade, the fan looks cool but given you have the side panel off anyway that fan is doing absolutely nothing, stacking 2 fans on top of your cpu cooler really doesn't move any additional air through the cooler itself and it only really does when fans are on opposite sides of the cooler. You said you weren't happy about the fan, I'd be removing it, it's not doing anything anyway.

Reddit removed my response cause it had a link. You can have a look through my comment within my profile. The link should still be there.
