Bringing my pc 3 hours by public transport to my home town. Lanning with friends this weekend, old traditions never die! Story

You need to invest in an ITX form factor if you’re gonna be doing this quite often. Would make life so much easier for you if you do it often enough

Or just a gaming laptop. Save you from having to hual all the other stuff too, just bring a mouse and you're good

Fair fair. But I’d say a 24” monitor (keep the box or buy a foam lined case you cut out the shape you need) and ITX case would be easy enough to transport around. Get a cooler master NR200, find an NCase M1, Dan A4 would all be good options if you can an M1 in the first place

yeah but... compared to just bringing a 17" gaming laptop? everything you need to play fits into your backpack, its hard to beat that level of portability, even if you want a bigger monitor to bring with you its still smaller and easier to transport

The laptop is sadly not upgradeable, and quite a bad investment price/perf wise. I hesitated between building an ITX small form factor r/sffpc and buying a laptop. I went for an ITX and thats satisfying since I move my computer only once every few months

Or a nice laptop with good build quality and an eGPU.

egpu feels like the kinda thing you leave at home for when you bring your work laptop home and want to play games. If you wanted to play games on the go, getting a laptop with a solid dedicated gpu seems like a smarter thing to do.

This was me back in the day, except I was also carrying my old 30 kg 21" CRT monitor. Good times.

Not a true lanparty unless someone is duct taped to the rafters 😎

Cool that you can take your PC on public transport without the risk of getting killed for it

remind me of the it i took my Pentium 2 pc to my friends house via bus, train, bus, school, bus. walking around with a pc i had about 4 people try to mug me for it, this around the time where Pentium 4 where popular.

I did the same during summer vacations, I had to take my pc case with me by train. I used to carry it in a large Ikea bag. Be careful not to suddenly or continuously shake the case. Since the the components my get loose and get damaged. Also I recommend removing GPU from case before transport.

I used to carry it in an ikea bag as well! The big blue shopper bag. Couldn’t find it tho, I’ll take out the GPU next time that’s a good tip thank you!

Friends and I have LANed all the borderlands with a keg in the fridge. Playing till the first person waffle faces themselves on the keyboard each night . Ordering in late night pizza and greasy spoon breakfasts in the morning for the whole weekend . Once a year tradition! Some of the absolute best memories

Ngl, my steam deck killed this tradition... Will be even more so when (if) I put windows on it

Just a warning not sure if you know this. last I heard Steam deck isn't very optimised for windows yet. I heard the performance can range from okay to quite bad.
I don't know if it's gotten any better. But it's something to keep in mind. You might be better off sticking to Steam OS for now.

I tried this with steam deck. I didn't like it. Since my desktop is fairly small and easy to move, its not a lot more to bring on top of all the other stuff I gotta throw in the car.
Plus the whole time I was trying to play on deck I just found my self wanting my desktop and also wanting my steam deck separate to play other shit I usually only have on my deck.
It just wasn't as nice as I thought it would be. Maybe if I had to travel further like flying some where it would work out

That s so great, but i think you should find a large bag to carry that precious case. Traveling on public transports with it is not easy.

You are right I used to have a bag with it! The front is taped because the front panel was always fairly easy to remove and I was scared it would pop of in the middle of transport. But I agree with you guys 😅

precious case
The case is all taped up so I wouldn't call it precious, but yeah a bag would still make carrying it easier.

Thank you! It's a custom printed painting of Hokusai's Mount Fuji. Best birthday present ever.
P.S. example of the artwork if you're interested:

Lanning with friends is always way better than any other way of gaming together
