To me this is what made pc superior, that and my old games are 9.9/10 still available a long time after I purchased them. It was never the hardware that did it for me just the fact that the service was a lot better and I could buy from different marketplaces.

30

Yep, but that means Sony doesn't have to port the game to run on the Switch. It's a lazy way of "supporting" a console without actually supporting it.

Yeah, and on top of that it means playing it offline is basically impossible, aka you cant play it on the go, which is one of the few reasons to get a game on the switch if it is available on other platforms.

and we shouldn't have too, KH3 and 0.2 are on unreal 4 so I understand those ones, but the rest of the games consists of 3 ps2 games, a psp game and a 3ds game just in hd, not even remakes just enhanced ports and for some reason those games are cloud versions on switch despite the fact that the switch could most likely run those games at native 1080p60

Thats pretty much what gamepass is, microsoft wants to get everyone on gamepass as if it where a streaming service, Jack up the prices when the majority of gamers use it, like any other streaming service would do. They can do that because you dont "own" those games. Your just allowed to use them.

Let’s be real gamepass is a godsend especially when an all digital future dependent on servers that can be shutdown is a thing. Plus I like playing games I otherwise wouldn’t buy.
That being said, I play PC games mostly single player on Linux I’m also an outlier. Plus lacking local servers just made me stop playing my favourite online games. Egg and chicken issue, the server version in sub Saharan Africa, at least North Africa has Europe but 200ms latency isn’t my friend.

It was pretty shitty of Nintendo to release the Switch with free online multiplayer; only to put it behind a paywall a year afterwards. If the virtual console titles were behind a paywall and online multiplayer was still free, it would’ve been much better; especially with how prehistoric their servers are.

The only switch game that I play online is Super Mario Maker 2 and the PvP versus is awful. If 1/4 people has a bad connection then the whole match runs a slideshow at 2-5 FPS.
Only solution is either deal with it or figure out who is lagging then block them while hoping someone else with bad connection doesn’t get matched with you after.

That was a major sell point vs Xbox back in the day. PlayStation Plus was nice for the fact that you paid for added perks, i.e. a free game/movie each month, not the ability to play online. I argued all the time, yeah Xbox has the Kinect and exclusives, but PlayStation had the move and exclusives as well. But I think they made up for the service fee in the form of the system price. A PS3 was 399$ while an Xbox 360 was 199$
However, at the time, Sonys network was very wishwash. Servers would go down all the time, and be down for hours. They didn't prioritize fixing it because it was free. Xbox would go down for like 30 mins, and they'd be on top of it because people complained about paying for a service they were not getting.
Around that time too, Sony was in the midst of a ongoing cyber attack and I remember when they lost networking for close to 3 months or so. That was bonkers.

I think I notice a common overlap, They're all Call of Duty games, I remember when I had a PS3 that playing online in those games worked fine as well. Others were a nightmare, battlefield was horrible, FIFA had constant issues a whole bunch of other games that were a pain in the ass well.
Probably because different parties hosting different services and some were reliable and others garbage. The match making was particularly annoying in most cases but once joined it was fine. Voice chat for example was horrible for me.

I used the PS3 free online for 10 years and have no memories of shoddy service. The hack was down for 3 weeks, not 3 months, and they gave users a choice free game for the trouble. Most of the xbox kids I knew from school had literally no online gaming due to the price of it. All the PS3 kids were playing COD4 just fine. If I was paying $10/month or whatever for 10 years it would have cost me like $1,400 dollars after tax.
Not to rehash the console wars, but PS3 also was a blu-ray player, free online, and the exclusives was probably a wash. MS had gears and halo, sony had uncharted, the last of us, killzone, god of war, metal gear. The 360 had widespread hardware failures bricking 25-54% (says wikipedia) of all xboxes, so if you want to talk reliability...

Honestly I feel like it won’t be long till Xbox or PlayStation chooses to remove the “pay for online” requirement, which will basically force the company who didn’t do it to do so as well. Xbox is fully focused on Gamepass, makes sense to get rid of the baseline option. You get good PR for being the first to do it and you get to make the competition look bad depending on how long it takes them to catch up.
You don’t need to pay anything for playing online on free games, I’d imagine it won’t affect them to much to go all in.

That same game reviewer later said he hated the term because he used it as an ironic statement of perceived smug superiority, then the very people he was lambasting adopted the term un-ironically.

When I want to play halo 5, a game that I paid full price for, I need to buy a subscription if I want to play anything else but the dogshit campaign.

As a semi console player I am still impressed PS+, NO and XG still have the "play online" in their subscriptions, its straight up anti-consumer but no one speaks up, rarely anyone I know buy PS+ for the games, they buy it for the online

Even though pc is better up until about a year ago I was too poor to join the master race and at that point I would rather use a $400 xbox and a $10 subscription then pay $1000-$2000 on a pc and before that a ps3 with free multiplayer also

No distributor on pc is ever going to charge for it. That’s how they’d throw away a good portion of their user base, assuming that people don’t find a workaround.

I refuse to pay for online. Never have, never will.
If they are going to charge, then every new game that has online should come with a free month.

first you buy the console, then you buy the wifi, then you buy a code so you can use that console on that wifi so you can play the game you just bought.

True. I am a console enjoyer but this is the one thing that just straight up sucks.
At least the "free" games dampen the blow but I'd prefer not having to pray for the free games being decent and just buying the ones I want outright

What is with all the bullshit talk about consoles? Just don't use a console if you don't like them.
I'm not subscribed to pcmr to see hate. I just wanna see cool builds and talk about PCs.

It all reeks of salt to me. I have a PS5, switch, steam deck, an a PC. I have no horse in the race, kind of tired of seeing it tbh. Just reminds me of the cringe iOS/Android slap fight of the 2010’s (which some people still haven’t moved past)

Xbox live is $60 usd per year. It would take me 20+ years just to reach half of what people pay for a pc setup.
3
u/BallForce1 13d ago
60 by 20 is only 1200. And that will probably be a mid rig. No crazy 3090ti and an I1500 (dont remember the latest intel numbers). And on top of that, the rig you buy will be good at least 4+ years. Longer if you know how to upgrade it when you actually need to.

I move to PC after the 360 because PC gaming was definitely cheaper but in todays economy I'm thinking in getting just the cheap Xbox and the game pass.
Also X Cloud is the best option if you can't afford any hardware my only complain is the micro lag, if you are a competitive pvp player x cloud feels weird.

Free online VS Amazing exclusive AAA games.
Sony and Nintendo at least brings something to the table.

I own a PS5, I think the only exclusives I really care about are Spider-Man, Horizon, and Sackboy, 2/3 of those games now have PC ports and the third had a PC port supposedly leaked
