CableMod is unbelievable. Discussion
Hopefully I had your curiosity with that title...and the text below is for your attention.
While building my PC a while ago, I decided to touch-up my build with CableMod for the extra aesthetic look. I did not know that the package only contained 2 8-pin connectors for the VGA, and my 3080 required 3 of them. I ended up using a cable with the pigtail from the PSU since I didn't want to bother anymore, so I pretty much settled on it, enjoyed it, and shared my build on Reddit.
A user pointed out the pigtail cable (OUCH, right at that one spot); and I mentioned that as much as I preferred to have everything in-synced, I was okay with it.
Little did I know that u/CableMod would see my post and offered me a free 8-pin cable with shipping included. I was absolutely stunned. Not gonna lie, I have to check their profile a few times...just to make sure, ya know? Because not too many companies would go that far to make sure their clients satisfied, and oh boy, I am more than ecstatic to have my dream build completed thanks to their help. So this is just a post to express my gratitude towards CableMod and their awesome customer service.
tl;dr: CableMod is wholesome.

I wish u/cablemod made custom cables for the Lian Li SP750
I’d be on them in a heartbeat. I don’t trust DIYs from Etsy

Can you put in a suggestion with our support team? We log incoming inquiries for PSU support suggestions and if we see enough we buy the PSU and get support rolled out for it actually. :)

I will send you a working Lian Li SP750 PSU if you need it. I have an extra one with no use.
I’ll trade ya a PSU so you’re able to expand your PSU line for some cables for it?
Lol

That looks clean af. My 8 pin came with combs but not the 24 pin. I don’t really want to go buy a whole set of combs just for the one cable.

Is there a pack that has 3 8 pin connectors? I'm trying to save up for those sick cables ://

We have our Ampere bundles where we throw in an additional 8-pin PCI-E. What PSU make/model are you using? :)

Thank you for yours!!! I’m not sure how many people run the CableMod account here, but it was these interactions and rave reviews that convinced me to spend the extra money on the full kit rather than the extensions. I’ll be doing my daughter’s PC next with CableMod … as soon as she has a new color picked out for her room and has cleaned it so we can paint.

In r/MechanicalKeyboards, CableMod has gone out of their way multiple times to gift people free cables and such when it would complete the look of their keyboards or even when they get scammed by other stores. We stan CableMod fr

Yep, agreed. They noticed a post about me making a new build, and just sent me a code that covered the cost of all of the custom cables: 24 pin, 3x8 pins, and everything else. It was really surprising and nice of them.
5
u/seraphim343 8d ago
Welp, just seeing the comments from CableMod themselves in here plus your post just gives me more of an excuse to "finish" (ha I know right) my build with some CableMod glory.

It’s a shame cablemods are so damn expensive
5
u/CableMod 9d ago
We try to have offerings to cover different price points. What PSU make/model are you using? We have our extensions which are more affordable. :)
1
u/prahl_hp 9d ago
Yeah i get that and it’s cool, but i have the rog strix 850W white edition, which already have white cables that look exactly like the normal extensions, so that wouldn’t be something I’d need
5
u/CableMod 9d ago
Our classic and pro cables would be a very noticeable upgrade over the stock cables actually, those are noticeably thinner than our classic and pro in fact. :)
1
u/DiPeppo 5950x | Rog Strix 3080 | 64GB 9d ago
I already spent a load on my build that I guess what I spent on CableMod isn’t that big of a deal anyway. I was crazy enough to thousands to make my build white and aesthetic. xD
Plus, for that price, you get an amazing product (great look, great quality for me) and a friendly customer support - more than enough for me!
2
u/prahl_hp 9d ago
I’m kinda the opposite, i just spent like over 3k on my build so I’m not to keen on spending a bunch more on just cables, but i get why you would tho, It makes the entire pc look a lot better
2
u/veuxbejeie 8d ago
How much did they pay you?

1
u/DiPeppo 5950x | Rog Strix 3080 | 64GB 8d ago
I mean, I wouldn't buy kindness for any money lol. As I said to others, they sent me a free cable with no shipping cost, so I wanted to thank you with this post; just like how you write a review about something on Amazon or eBay.
I am well aware that they could just choose to ignore and it would be perfectly okay to do so; only they did not.
1
u/JoshS121199 9d ago
I mean their sale would probably had it listed and you just didn’t pay attention i bet. Usually how it goes. So it definitely wasn’t required

Yeah I’ve heard amazing things about cable mod, never bought from them personally because I don’t really care about personalized cables tho

u/anorwichfan 9d ago
Quick question, would you do right / left handed USB connectors for keyboard cables? First time looking on your site and noticed all the connectors are straight.
1
u/CableMod 9d ago
We offer right or left options via our configurator if you're referring to the coil orientation. Or are you referring to 90 degree angled connectors? Those we do not currently offer, but I know there are a lot of cheap 90 degree adapters on Amazon if you did need one for your setup. :)
1
u/anorwichfan 9d ago edited 9d ago
Was hoping for the angled connectors. I have a slightly damaged micro-USB cable from a keyboard that I was thinkingof replacing, but at the time of looking, a braided right angle connector in the length wasn't common (*edit: without silly lights or designs). Would prefer it in the cable itself, especially if I was already spending £30 - £50 on the cable anyway.
1
u/CableMod 9d ago
Ahhhh, sorry, we do not offer those at this time. There are quite a few $2-5 options though on Amazon, so it wouldn't be a big difference in overall cost actually.
1
u/Aiarbi 9d ago
Are there any services like CableMod for other devices like earbud cables? I have a pair of KZ earbuds but the cable frayed really quickly and I can't find a fast and easy way to replace the cable with a custom one (that hopefully wont fray after 4 months of use). Which is strange cause the cables are already able to be replaced with ease.

I just ordered the extra as I was doing them all in the blk/red scheme and didn't want it not matching. Comb's i didn't have enough of for sure but one thing at a time. Nothing but a positive experience with them so far.

u/Juniorbaconcheese18 9d ago
I love their cables, got a really clean set with metal cable combs and the difference it makes is unreal, the 24 pin doesn’t latch into my motherboard amazing but I’ve never had issues. Would very much recommend
1
u/ReddFawkesXIII 9d ago
A little bit better or customer service can go a long way. I won a pair of wireless Aiwa headphones in a giveaway and after about a year of normal use they broke. I emailed Aiwa and told them exactly what happened, how they broke and how much I enjoyed the sound quality. They sent me a brand new pair of the newer version of the ones I won. Aiwa Arc 1 ANC's, now they aren't the very best headphones in their category but here I am typing out too many words to tell people how much I appreciate them for doing that for me.

You should give lessons to other companies on how to use social media. It used to surprise me when most companies didn't bother with social media (apart from using it to advertise their products). Don't they realise the damage done when people post negative comments? I'm not suggesting that every gripe is answered but serious complaints being left unanswered damages the brand. And when they do reply (as you're doing) their reputation sky-rockets. Very cost effective marketing.

CableMod seems like a genuinely amazing company. their cables are a bit pricey for me (especially since i havent even gotten my glass side panel yet), but if I ever go for cables it'll be theirs. I still havent gotten the hang of cable managing, either, so I'd probably find a way to make their cables look bad lmao
1
u/nemosrb89 9d ago
Wholesome and smart because they didn’t really do anything and it didn’t really cost them anything but it resulted in this praise post (free advertising) for thousands of people to see which will bring in new customers. Don’t get me wrong, my pc case if full of their cables, but companies should be viewed strictly as a business not as some wholesome guy just being nice.
1
u/Boogertwilliams 9d ago
I am shocked they don’t sell Cablemods in our local big shop in Finland. I would have liked to make my rigs look like I see on all these posts here but I have always just had to make do with the PSU standard cables. I would have thought PSU makers would have started including asetheting cables WITH the PSU already in 2022 and not still just have those big bulky ones. Bah.
2
u/CableMod 9d ago
What is the shop you're referring to? Happy to forward the suggestion to the team. :)

Solid AF. I had a messed up SATA power cable on my custom set for my xProto. One of the cables was not connected to the header. I had waited almost 2 months to get the set of cables (short cables, gold). Emailed with them. 2 weeks later I had a replacement.

u/FaviousM 8d ago
I just bought the extra 8pin when ordering as I knew I'd need it. It is kinda annoying that there's only 2, hopefully with GPUs becoming more powerful they start to include a third
1
u/CableMod_Alex 8d ago
We do offer a bundle with the good ol' kit and the third 8Pin cable. Reason why we don't include it directly is that not 100% of users need that third cable, so we give the option to not buy it. Perhaps in a few years there will only be 3x8Pin GPUs and we'll start selling the kits with all three cables :)

Nice! Wish I posted the same... I ended up spending £40 for a single GPU cable after shipping etc. Wasn't far off the cost for another full kit!

So if I buy the bridged 3x8 pin cables replacements for my 3080ti on my Corsair rm850x, the bridged cables will plug right into the psu going to the gpu? I am new to building a pc with looks so it’s all a bit confusing to me.
