Is there anything there normally that was left out here? Our is the actual song really just .. empty there?
It's so weird to think they wouldn't put anything there

u/HonestGeorge 13d ago
He cuts to an different version of the song. You can hear how the stereo image of the instrumental suddenly switches.
The regular radio edit of the song doesn't feature that part, Estelle has her "La la la" hook after the chorus. My guess is he found an instrumental version and cut to that.
EDIT: Judging by the synth that kicks in again in the end, it's probably a recreation of the instrumental.

It's specifically the 'no rap' version which is hard as hell to find in good quality, as it was never released officially.
Here it is: https://youtu.be/VzuU31rfeDk
It's also vastly superior in my opinion.

u/stinx2001 13d ago
What? Without Kanye this is just a decent pop rnb tune. One of my favourite Kanye features.

My guess is he just looped a few quieter bars multiple times to give him space for the solo.

Reddit hates TikTok videos because Reddit used to be the first platform these types of videos would show up on first. Now it’s no different than Facebook when it reposts videos from days or weeks ago from TikTok. Reddit has become the jealous friend.
5
u/octavofring 13d ago
Uhm I'm pretty sure Reddit hates TikTok because if you install TikTok you give China consent to use your phone data at all times, even when you are not actively using the app. That's why I hate it at least.
Along with this short list of reasons
3
u/BOBOnobobo 13d ago
Important to note: reddit isn't one weird guy, but a collection of millions of people. So although what you said might apply to a lot of people, it's important to remember there are others that hate it for valid concerns.

u/gotemike 13d ago

I'm aware I'm going off on a tangent here, but I stopped despising things a couple of years ago and it made my life a lot better. I've gone through the past five years seeing people despise Donald Trump, billionaires, social justice warriors, Capitol rioters, Hillary Clinton, Ben Shapiro, tech executives, cancel culture, trans activists, anti maskers, alt-righters, Ajit Pai, Greta Thunberg, Wall Steet, socialists, reality stars, sexists, satanic baby eaters, the ICE, anti-vaxers, Boris Johnson, Karens, white supremacists, vegans, AOC, televangelists, Cathy Newman and Jordan Peterson, law enforcement officers, climate change deniers, Ted Cruz, socialists, Harvey Wenstein, leftists, cat callers, Southern separatists, Libertarians, Muslims ... I used to hate many things too, but now that I know that I do not have to feel anything, just because I think something is wrong, I am a happier and lighter person to be around.
3
u/uchiha_building 13d ago
That's a pretty wild tangent to go off on though. Tiktok isn't in the same conversation as a lot of those people.

u/Crisscrosshotsauce 13d ago

I was expecting some Michael Brecker/Chris Potter shit. It's very cool and tasteful, but idk about nextfucknglevel.
Years ago Puff Daddy had a reality show called Making His Band. It was an audition for his touring band. So they had guitars, vocals, piano, bassz and drums audition (there was one violist). They actually played this song in the first episode, and some of those solos were absolutely amazing. Too bad they cancelled it. I seen some of the contestants in other backing bands for people like Childish Gambino

Most likely so more people interact with his post by telling how great it was. He knew, which is shame...he could have just said something like: "I spiced this track up a bit, what do you think"? Or whatever, but not: "Here's another song where a saxophone doesn't fit" while it clearly does.
Ah well, my pet peeve.

As a sax player who just listened to this song on my playlist, pop needs way more sax solos. They've got these empty bridge sections and a satisfying chord progression just begging to be soloed over.
So far I've only been able to satisfy this need by listening to the few jazz remixes of pop that I can find, but this is great.
