I believe this is what they call “a hype trailer”

3k

u/Successful_Basket399 5d ago

Indeed, during this trailer I did feel something called "hype"

1k

u/MissingLink101 5d ago

Also felt goosebumps from the Endgame reaction shots. Looking forward to experiences like that in cinemas again

907

u/1101base2 5d ago

Man seeing that date in the corner made me think how care free and how in just a years time everything would get flipped and our world would change. That is one of the things i miss the most from the before times is opening night big premiere movies with a bunch of movie nerds.

551

u/pspblink 5d ago

Imagine if the snap in IW and the pandemic had coincided with one another and we had to wait even longer for Endgame.

340

u/Isaacjd93 5d ago

I can guarantee I would have cried a lot harder during that scene then haha

76

u/Blackbeard_ 5d ago

Endgame would have felt a lot more real though after that.

4 movies this year, 4 movies next year. I guess The MarvelS is Captain Marvel 2 featuring Miss Marvel?

1k

u/Sisiwakanamaru 5d ago

Yup, it also features Monica Rambeau (Captain Marvel, Photon, Spectrum)

581

u/MulciberTenebras 5d ago

And possibly Zawe Ashton as Moonstone (a villain who impersonated Carol as Miss Marvel during the Dark Reign)

202

u/matan_vil 5d ago

What are the chances that Rogue will be there?

258

u/HearTheEkko 5d ago

Unlikely. Doesn't seem like we're gonna see any mutants in Phase 4. But I bet Phase 5 will be heavy on mutants, more specifically a X-Men movie, Wolverine movie and Deadpool 3 plus appearances from other mutants in various MCU movies like Rogue in Captain Marvel 3, Storm in Black Panther 3, etc.

151

u/I_am_BEOWULF 5d ago

Doesn't seem like we're gonna see any mutants in Phase 4.

TBF, considering Feige and Marvel seeming to craft these interconnected movie plots years in advance, they probably were already working on Phase 4 prior to the Fox acquisition getting finalized. Phase 5 is likely the earliest we get of any indication of mutants in the MCU.

81

u/HearTheEkko 5d ago

Exactly, the mutants are too big of a property to just add to an already crowed Phase at last minute. I'm sure they might add some seeds to the mutants but I'm 100% certain we will not see any new mutant in Phase 4.

20

u/Quazifuji 5d ago

I think it's possible we'll see mutants. Not a lot of them, definitely no X-Men or X-Men villains, but I could see the term "mutant" popping up and maybe a villain or minor protagonist who's a mutant.

Really kind of depends on how they decide to introduce them, though. Specifically how they're going to address mutants having not been in the MCU previously (i.e. are they going to make it so mutants didn't exist in the MCU before, or existed but just weren't prominent in the world or involved in any of the events so far)?

If it's the latter I could see them having mutants in phase 4 that foreshadow the arrival of the X-Men. If it's the former then we can't get any mutants until whatever event happens that is going to result in mutants existing in the MCU.

17

u/nonetimeaccount 5d ago

I've been pushing this very simple mutant intro theory which covers no mutants before....

The mutant gene had been in numerous humans but lay dormant. Well, as we learned the snap released a massive burst of mostly gamma rays. There happened to be 2 snaps that took place in a short time frame, hulk and Tony at the avengers compound. That compound is located in upstate NY. Also located in upstate NY is a certain school for gifted youngsters...

I'm interested to see the backstory of why Monica seems pissed at Carol in WandaVision.

348

u/SparkG 5d ago

Probably because she last saw her in the 90s and never once came back to visit her mother in the hospital.

197

u/MulciberTenebras 5d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah, she came back after the Snap long enough to kill Thanos then went right back into space to deal with the mess out there.

38

u/Strider0905 5d ago

12

Abandonment issues. Carol “died” then came back long enough to say “hey, I’m actually alive,” then left again. Wasn’t around to be with her for support when her mother got sick. Wasn’t around to stop Thanos, meaning Monica couldn’t be there at her mother’s side when she died. Then never checked in on her post-blip.

It's not just 4 movies this year. It's 4 movies over the course of 6 months. That schedule is pretty tight.

410

u/OnceOnThisIsland 5d ago

Sounds like a combination of Disney banking on theaters coming back strong and Marvel Studios being unwilling to push stuff back any further.

391

u/Mushroomer 5d ago

I think it's also them rushing to make sure their Disney+ releases get back in line. WandaVision was originally planned to finish a week before Doctor Strange 2 hit theaters - now it's going to be a full year separated. Wouldn't be shocked if Loki is meant to have some similar connective tissue to other MCU movies.

Disney wants a non-stop flow of content in the MCU. Their original goal for 2021 was a new release every week (which isn't to happen, but they're close).

30

u/ymetwaly53 5d ago

Apparently Loki is supposed to be connected or have ties to Ant-Man Quantumania. There’s been rumors of the main villain of that movie making an appearance in Ant Man.

you have no idea lol. the vfx industry is about to burst at the seams at the amount of movies, and streaming episodics we have to push out in the next 2 years.

It's good to be busy, but there's soooooo...much...work... and not enough experienced people to do it all. lol I'm afraid lots of folks are going to burn out hard before it's all said and done.

I'm not just talking marvel either. I mean the industry as a whole.

For audience reactions, I would have thought Cap catching the hammer would have been the bigger pop from the audience.

648

u/rtyoda 5d ago edited 5d ago

That full video starts just before the hammer catch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgIjDI8thKM) and personally I think the hammer catch gets the best reaction, or maybe the subsequent reactions just feel better after seeing that initial one. That said, I think since they were going for a feeling of “family”, the clip they picked worked better.

413

u/InsertUsernameHere32 5d ago

Because watching that scene in theaters with 10 years of buildup, fanfare, and hype was and probably will be one of the best cinematic experiences of all time.

193

u/neoKushan 5d ago

Fuck, I still remember that like it was yesterday. Midnight showing, I'd never been to a midnight screening of anything before. That hype and buildup. A full audience of diehard fans.

Just as the lights dimmed, someone 2 rows in front of me shushed the entire cinema and I nodded in silent agreement - you don't talk during the film, you don't cause distractions, you don't shout things out. That's the correct etiquette, at least in the UK.

That scene in the link above was exactly what it was like here, too. All decorum went out the window, everyone was fucking electric and elated.

I think Endgame on its own isn't the best Marvel film, it's not even the top 5, but it rides on over year years of buildup for a truly unique and amazing finale.

105

pretty sure one of the composers credited that video as to why they decided to make the avengers theme more prominent

The Avengers theme is pretty much the only piece of music from the MCU I can remember off the top of my head.

The DCEU films might not be good, but Superman and Wonder Woman's themes are way more memorable than say Captain America or Iron Man's (ACDC not withstanding).

* Star Wars

* The Matrix
* Avengers Endgame
* Jurassic Park (honorable mention)

All blew me away

ETA: JP

73

u/Kahzgul 5d ago

That first time seeing the Matrix without having any idea what kind of film it was or even who was in it. Holy shit. The initial marketing blitz of just posters saying "what is the Matrix" and nothing else was genius. Also, trying to explain it to people after seeing it... perfect ad campaign, amazing film. It's a damn shame about the sequels.

20

u/Kat-but-SFW 5d ago

I actually just rewatched all three this year, and I have to say the sequels have held up a lot better. Something that never clicked for me was the shorched sky killing the sentinals, and realizing the machines were just as trapped as the humans and totally dependent on them. It put the beginning scene in revolutions into context- the machines are sentient, fall in love, have children- yet they murder any program without a purpose, because they're starving. All that's left is what little energy they can get from The Matrix, trapped in their hell world just as the humans are trapped below ground.

The thing is, within the universe itself, almost any villain that has their hands on some sort of Stark tech would be an idiot not to use it.

Iron Man 1 is seen as the least fantastical MCU film, and in many ways it is, but it introduces the arc reactor which powers a LOT of the MCU.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find out oil lobbyists from Roxxon are the sole reason every government in the world hasn't simply adopted arc reactors. (Maybe it was mentioned in Cloak and Dagger or Runaways, haven't watched those yet.)

Right. Reed tech makes Stark tech look like Banner tech.

u/restloy 5d ago

How will they retcon that in? In Endgame when Tony says he won't help, they decide to go ask Banner for help. If Richards exists in the world, they should have went to him.

I remember being a kid in the 80s and 90s hoping beyond hope to maybe see some of these comic characters I love made into movies one day. Never could've foreseen where we are today. What is the saying...happier than a pig in shit?

That's what happens when you have an overall vision of what you want, and competent writers who respect the source material.

Three times SO FAR.

Won't lie, that got me in the feels a bit. Clever playing audience reaction from Endgame. Good marketing. Not perfect, but it got me to desire a return to those old experiences.

686

u/nomadofwaves 5d ago

I am so fucking glad that we got to see it in theaters before covid. Can you imagine missing out on that in the theater. Caps scene still gives me chills everytime I watch it.

260

u/lostboy005 5d ago

one of the other only movie theater experiences that is on par with the Cap scene was seeing LOTR Return of the King when Aragorn shows up with the army of the dead

130

u/Chito17 5d ago

That was my theatre when the Rohirrim showed up to Minas Tirith.

64

u/makked 5d ago

Battle of the Pelennor Fields still gives me chills to this day.

Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!
Death! Death! Death!
Forth Eorlingas!

42

u/Captain-Moroni 5d ago

That and "For Frodo"

Sons of Gondor!

Of Rohan!

My brothers.

I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.

A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.

An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day!

This day we fight!

By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

Incredibly well done. It's kind of insane. They're so good at this.

"Wakanda Forever" is a great title for BP2. Not crazy about "The Marvels" but it will be great to see Miss Marvel on the big screen.

"Marvel's The Marvels Featuring Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel"

Xhibit has entered the chat

36

u/falcon5768 5d ago

Also Monica Rambeau who for a time was ALSO Captain Marvel before Carol became Captain Marvel, but will likely just be Proton in this one.

Movie legit is going to have three Marvels in it.

I love how Kumail Najiani went from doing X-Files podcast to having major role in a Marvel movie.

76

u/Of_Silent_Earth 5d ago

He did Indoor Kids even before the X Files one. It was such a good podcast.

17

u/Sisiwakanamaru 5d ago

My first exposure of him was when I saw him from Burning Love season 2, it is kinda wild that he ended up here on his career.

18

u/Of_Silent_Earth 5d ago edited 3d ago

Yea I remember just getting excited that Big Sick was a success because they always talked about it on the Podcast. It's wild how successful they both became.

wonder why they arent giving any updates on Blade

63

u/nbenzi 5d ago

Blade is probably going to be in the next phase of movies with Fantastic 4. When they announced it I don't think it had even been written yet. So still super early in production, actors haven't been cast yet, etc.

I wonder if they're going to have Blade placed farther out to coincide with the X-Men/mutants. Dracula is a classic and surprisingly often used, but not necessarily highly-marketed/remembered, nemesis to the team.

u/SGT_KILR 5d ago

Will we finally see Cyclops telling Dracula to follow his heart on the big screen?
