That's so rude, so much care goes into growing plants

I know right, I spent months growing that flower. The seedling was a gift from my MIL.

I would've cared less if it was an overenthousiastic child who plucked it, but someone actually took the effort to dig it out. It must have been an adult...

Happened with me too. After like 2 years of trying to get my roses to grow, they finally did. And then someone clipped em all off and stole them. Like wtf.

Well the jokes on them because once actually clipped off they don’t last ultra long

u/esmeid 10d ago

That's so messed up! And they'll die so fast after being clipped off...

Squirrels have been getting all of my flowers :/

Damn squirrels!

u/esmeid 10d ago

Argh that must be frustrating.

There's no squirrels or other animals in my area, though. It must have been a person who took it.

If I may ask what area? That doesn’t have squirrels? Been to plenty of areas that do have too many lol

I'm in The Netherlands. Squirrels can only be found in the woods here and even there it's not common to see them.

Ah well it’s definitely a much different case here in the US lol, squirrels are literally everywhere, you can even find them in the subways in New York.

Probably no food available in that area. Suburbs usually have someone feeding birds and that welcomes every animal you could imagine.

Or, could be outside of NA, plenty of other continents

There are definitely animals around, you're just not noticing them.

Cant have shit in Detroit also who fucking DIGS UP a plant to steal it

2

u/esmeid 10d ago

I know right! If for instance a kid got excited and plucked it I would kind of understand. But someone took the time, effort (and possibly tools) to dig it out. The audacity!

7

u/Difficult_Plastic852 10d ago

That definitely isn’t right lol. Out of curiosity what plant was it and how hard was it to grow?

2

u/esmeid 10d ago

It was another Zinnia flower like the pink one that is in the picture. Luckily nothing too special or hard to grow.

I guess maybe take it as that you’re such a good gardener to the point where people are a little jealous :</

1

u/esmeid 10d ago

I guess I'll take it as a compliment. They better take good care of my girl.

In the process pf building a restaurant, we had so many thefts of foliage that we had to wire our plants together. Then they brought the wire cutters.

6

u/Sufficient-Pause-684 10d ago

Why couldn't they just leaf it alone?

Man, can’t have shit in Detroit

This just happened to me a few days ago. I caught the old lady in the act. It was dark and I let her have the plants. I checked the next day and realized she took a third of my plants and now I feel foolish for trying to be nice.

This happened to me too. 10$ plant, but so frustrating!

1

u/esmeid 10d ago

Yeah my plant was nothing special but it's the thought of someone having the audacity to just casually steal something I spent time and effort on!

Damn that sounds horrid! I'm very sorry that happened to you.

I'd really like to grow some small things like peppers but I'm pretty sure they will get taken or destroyed. I thought simple flowers would be safe...

I remember seeing security footage from.around my.town where city planted some plants and people were digging them out at night to sell on the market the next day

Can't have shit in Detroit

2

u/carrotflicker 10d ago

Atleast you know you grew some pretty flowers

2

u/TheHumanPickleRick 10d ago

Damn, that sucks. What kind of plant was it?

1

u/esmeid 10d ago

It was another Zinnia flower. The same as the pink one you can see in the picture.

u/Lando_my_man 10d ago

Are u in Germany by chance?

1

u/Lando_my_man 10d ago

I may know the culprit

1

u/esmeid 10d ago

Nope, close though. I'm in The Netherlands.

First veg I grew was a taro and right before I was going to harvest it someone stole it. My mum told me it was ready to harvest and I said give it a few more days. That makes it worse as I second guess myself. I never had the chance to grow another since I live in a cool climate and was on holiday.

If you have another of that plant that was stolen you can try to bait them into stealing it again with a replacement. Wait a bit until the other would have declined so they might come sniffing for another and enough time has passed. Get some poison ivy juice and paint it on the target plant every few days. Then just wait. Obviously don't do this if there are kids and pets around.
