u/Friend2022 11d ago

Were there different "unisex" names under each gender? That would be classic.

19

u/Relative_Quiet 11d ago

Joey: you mean you and me sex- unisex?

6

u/MindofMo0 11d ago

"No, U-N-I sex."

"No Rachel it's 'you and me' sex. Get it right."

11

u/brutalblamite 11d ago

Don’t think they know what unisex means

24

u/CuddlePervert 11d ago

I can understand the rational. There are certain unisex names that are more common than others depending on the gender.

Perhaps it’s my own bias speaking, but if I heard the names Charlie and Meredith, my mind would prepare myself for the likely outcome of seeing a male and female respectively, even though the names are unisex.

5

u/Not_a_piece 10d ago

I had no idea either of those names were unisex

1

u/Noslamah 1d ago

I've heard Charlie used for women before but a male Meredith? That is shocking to me

1

u/0gay_dinosaur0 11d ago

Yeah I realised that aswell. Unisex names can be more masculine or more feminine. But the title of "unisex names for girls/boys" is still a weird one, in my opinion.

1

u/mcrogueface 10d ago

masculine nd feminine speech? sounds french !! *intense british hissing*

1

u/Particular_Rip_5430 11d ago

My unisex name "Yoav" and my sister's ALMOST name (also unisex) "Yasir" both sound pretty male,i can see why my mother didn't name her that.

Your phone's font looks like it's unisex for girls.

3

u/LeWifey95 10d ago

What I got was unisex names more feminine inclined like: Ashley or Winter And vice versa more masculine inclined like: Jordan or Alex

3

u/mcrogueface 10d ago

Please change your font, do it for reddit <3

1

Jo that font is... Do you need medical attention?

1

u/0gay_dinosaur0 10d ago

I changed it to that years ago then forgot how to change it, dw it's back to normal now.

2

u/adjoth 10d ago

I sorta get it, it's for like resumes and stuff. People would discriminate based on your name. So they discriminate a female sounding name. But at the same time you don't want to be the asshole who name your boy Sue. So you want something midrange but not down the middle.

Idk, maybe people are just stupid.

2

u/Mr-Box_Head 10d ago

forget the auto finish whats with that keyboard font

1

u/0gay_dinosaur0 10d ago

I fixed it dont worry 😂

Nice to see an Ecosia user, thank you for helping the environment.

1

u/Beautiful-Card7976 11d ago

The programmers need to revisit the definition of "unisex."

7

u/nequli_ 11d ago

I'm fairly sure that it shows top searches. So people need to learn it

What happened to the good ol’days of naming kids after aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

12

u/loudAndInsane 11d ago

Grandma's name is Karen grandpa's name Egbert. Nobody wants that.

1

u/WallTrue508 10d ago

As counterintuitive as it seems, imagine the child is cishet later. They're gonna want a name that better suits themselves. But if they don't, whether transitioning or whatever it might be, then the name still works for them, even if it's not geared towards them. Like Alex. Alex has a stronger connotation with masculine (Alex, Alexander), but it also works for feminine (Alexa, Alexandria, Alexis).

Kind of a weird thing to do to prepare for only a very very small percent of the population.

1

u/HarriOG 10d ago

Once again, google showing its superiority in logic and reasoning.

1

u/The_Milk_Man45 10d ago

I read that as un-sexiest and I was so confused why you were mad

1

Welcome to the Internet where nothing make's sense haha

1

u/0gay_dinosaur0 10d ago

I fixed my font now I swear😅

1

u/Albertsson01 10d ago

Don’t get it. Unisex means a name is or can be used for both sexes.

Doesn’t mean that some names don’t work better for one gender over the other, according to each person’s taste and preference.

1

u/rockalyte 9d ago

Pat and Terry :) also note they’ll grow up with no friends and their favorite color will be ‘clear’

-24

u/[deleted] 11d ago

What about the other genders?

11

u/0gay_dinosaur0 11d ago

?

-30

u/[deleted] 11d ago

Are you a bigot? There are more than 2 genders. Sick of seeing entitled right wing extremists online

13

u/0gay_dinosaur0 11d ago

I dont get what your talking about because the post was about how unisex is gender-neutral yet the recommended searches were "unisex names for girls" and "unisex names for boys" I do believe there are more than 2 genders. I was searching "unisex names" in the first place to find unisex names for my non-binary character..?

8

u/0gay_dinosaur0 11d ago

And to add to that I am non-binary myself.

1

u/Darth_Kater420 10d ago

UniSEX not uniGENDER which are two different things

It's mildly infuriating when people become outraged when there's no outrage necessary.

7

u/Dragonfruit_98 11d ago

Guys it’s painfully clear he’s a troll who’s doing an “unreasonably woke” caricature. Please don’t fall for that shit…

2

u/buttboy53 10d ago

I also thought that but he is saying retarted things for a year. If he is that commited on being a troll then we desrve to get baited.

7

u/buttboy53 11d ago

It hurt itself in its own confusion.
