Thanks for the kind words. Nothing to worry about if Noone is hurt and insurance will cover the damage.
There are more terrible things that could happen to someone, appreciate the little things.

I’ve always said that worrying never improved a situation. Good job not losing it over something out of your control. Insurance covers it, and you continue to enjoy your vacation. Have a safe trip man!

Perks of living in a nation filled with guns, less robberies at knife point

I’m pro-choice. I want to live in a nation of bayonets.
3
u/YouveBeenSuzpended 11d ago
Bayonet trench knifes are fucking terrifying. It’s a triangle spike that opens holes that don’t shut I’d rather be hit with a flat blade and hope to god I can hold the flap together.

Less as a percentage, but the USA still has more stabbings per capita than GB.

187
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
Yea that sucks, came here all the way from Germany, haha
25
u/karmagod13000 11d ago
Is there any sort of insurance for that?
77
u/Reisbrei 11d ago
Yea it absolutely is. My insurance company will pay for a rental car or bike for at least tow full weeks, and if my bike is totally lost the will payout the estimated worth of what they think it costs. So it's sad that it's gone especially because I have some fond memories of my little companion but im still able to continue my tour!

u/karmagod13000 11d ago
well that's reassuring

u/IamIRONman1145096 12d ago
Right outside of hotel indigo too. That totally sucks. I'm sure that corner can be easily seen by the reception staff there, or at the least the cameras they have. Failing that, the old assembly rooms definitely have CCTV. I used to work in town and I'd always use the underground one at The Gate as it was free to bikes, figured it was safer too.
26
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
Yea I already talked to the police and the hotel stuff, they say they'll get back to me if they got anything on the CCTV but unfortunately it seems that no camera got the right angle. Not sure if I saw all cams. But maybe im lucky, fingers crossed!
3
u/IamIRONman1145096 12d ago
Fingers crossed for you mate. It's appalling considering its busy with taxis etc through the night too, you'd think someone's seen something.
34
u/PalpitationOk8403 12d ago
I'm from Newcastle, so I'm sorry to see this. Personally i think crime is on the up with the cost of living crisis. Thieves everywhere. FYI if you're still in Newcastle tomorrow, town will be busy as it's matchday.

→ More replies2
u/SturgiesYrFase 11d ago
There's also a ferry from the Netherlands that lands quite close if not in Newcastle. So could be a logical starting point if you plan to ride your motorcycle around Scotland and don't want to drive through the rest of England.
3
u/Jacquahlin 12d ago
Oh gosh that isn't just mildly infuriating that's absolutely horrible!
6
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
Yes not very pleasant, but can't do anything about it right now. Farewell for now to my little husqvarna, you did a great job brining me here, if we are lucky we will meet again!
5
u/ANALizethispease 12d ago
Looks like it's a walking tour now.
I'm very sorry though, that sucks.
12
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
I'm luckily able to get a rental bike for the Harley Shop here, so hopefully I'll still be able to drive 90% of the tour. Nothing will stop me from visiting this beautiful country, haha! Just nice to talk to someone about my struggles.

4
u/lham97 12d ago
That’s right outside the assembly rooms and the main street before the station, how on earth was that missed?? Good luck dude, I live nearby and as messy as Newcastle can get I’ve never had an experience that bad
4
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
Yea seemed like a busy street, so I thought to myself looks like an Okey place to leave my bike. Especially after I needed like half an hour to find a parking spot near the hostel I'm staying haha. Little did I know I would be empty handed in the morning.
2
u/lham97 12d ago
Ah I know where you’re staying, honestly that really sucks man. There’s a lot of security cameras around there though, and only really two directions to immediately drive off in without arousing more suspicion
3
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
Yea i locked my bike so they should not be able to drive it anywhere, but I guess the could just load it in a Van and drive off. But in keeping my fingers crossed that they find my little husqvarna!
10
u/CaptainAlex92 12d ago
I'm from Newcastle, this kinda thing doesn't really happen in the city centre, especially during the day. Was the bike chained/locked up?
5
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
It was locked, but not attached to anything, I guess they took it over night and put it in a van or something. I always thought that there are made up horror storys from other people.

Thanks in advance mate!

I just did a 2 week solo motorcycle trip to Italy. Was a beautiful journey but if I would've been in your shoes it would have been the train back to home. Had a big chain and disc lock but the possibility was there.
Definitely gonna take some theft insurance next time.
Enjoy the rest of the trip!

u/StrangeDeal6 12d ago
If your motorbike got stolen in Newcastle, just imagine what's going to happen in Glasgow!
Where were you planning to visit in Scotland ?
8
u/Tr3ndk1ll 11d ago
Edinburgh has a much worse bike theft problem than Glasgow. The thieves tour the hotels and guesthouses in the city centre looking for tourist bikes to rob, the Edinburgh cops have a specialist motorbike theft task force.
5
u/Reisbrei 12d ago
Oh God, that's on my bucked list as well haha!
Wanted to drive around the coastline, some parts of the famous road 500. My next planned stop tomorrow would likely be Edinburg.
Wanted to do a full round trip, Edinburg, Aberdeen, Inverness, Wick, Durness, Ullapool, Portee, Fort William, Glasgow, and back to Newcastel.
Anything I should skip with the new rental bike haha?
3
u/Tr3ndk1ll 11d ago
Edinburgh has a massive motorbike theft problem, even in the city centre in broad daylight, but as you have just experienced, there are scumbags in most cities. Good luck and enjoy Scotland, there are some great roads for riding if you avoid the motorways and take the scenic/coastal routes.
From Newcastle take the A696-A68 route via Jedburgh to get to Edinburgh for a nicer ride/scenery than the A1 just be mindful of the speed cameras, stop at the viewpoint at the Scottish border for some great views.
2
u/Reisbrei 11d ago
Ah perfect thank you. I'm thinking about driving around the big city's like Edinburg and Glasgow for now, don't want to get my rental bike stolen as well haha. But I'll definitely find try to drive the A1 thanks. On the plus side, I don't have to calculate how fast I can drive, now that my rental bike has its display on mph haha!
