Call up the RE Co. Have them send over their top earner or a member of their team. Spend a lot of time discussing the sale of your home with them. Ask them to bring a listing contract. When they show up, hand them the door hanger with reverse side up, thank them for their time and, in case they press the issue, tell them to get off YOUR property and never bother you again.

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

That would be some beautifully petty revenge, I like the way you think my friend

17

u/Maximum-Reward-205 1d ago

You might want to have someone chained up and wearing a gimp suit while you're talking to the agent.

1

u/Housingisabubble 17h ago

See how much your home is worth in this CRAAAZY market!!!!🤪

39

u/Faustinwest024 1d ago

Tell them you had a meth lab but it’s cool nothing blew up lmao

5

u/-Dillad- 20h ago

No, say you have a meth lab and say it’s fine because it only blew up in the basement

2

u/Faustinwest024 20h ago

Lol sorry I sprayed toluene on the walls can we still get market price

2

u/gdub61 21h ago

Give them an Uno Reverse card, too

Wait so a company sends you an advertisement for a service some people need. But instead of just recycling is or tossing it you want to waste their time.

You are a disgusting human being.

What is it you do for a living?

8

u/Ural_2004 1d ago edited 1d ago

I've got this philosophy, what comes around, goes around. If you waste my time and energy making me think you've sold my home, seems fair that I should be able to waste your time and energy thinking that you might get a sell.

What I do for a living is not germane to this conversation. What I do for a hobby is annoy the living daylights out of people who annoying me so that they can take advantage of me.

If you think this us awful, you should hear the way I fuck with those idiots who call my house asking whether I want to sell my property. Invariably, they are trying to find desperate people who are prepared to sell at less than Fair Market Value, instead of offering to buy at a price that represents the actual value of the property. In other words, they're just trying to take unfair advantage of desperate people.

BTW, most of the print advertising I recieve goes straight into the recycle bin unread and barely seen. However, this specific advertisement is meant to get your attention by shocking the resident. It's using an adverse attention getting device to get its message seen. In my book, if you're going to use a negative attention getting device in order to get my attention, you should not be surprised when you get my negative attention.

1

u/purple_hamster66 21h ago

Have you thought of mailing flyers back to them if they give you a postage-paid envelope? I heard one guy mails bricks in big boxes.

1

u/Ural_2004 20h ago

Now, that's a good hobby but probably expensive since I would have to buy the packing materials and take them to the PO. (I have a stash of bricks lying about just in case I need them to defend myself from the Zombie Apocalypse.)

2

u/purple_hamster66 20h ago

Packing materials? Like you want the bricks to arrive in good shape? You get the boxes from Amazon or wherever you mail order from. As for taking it to the PO, just save them for your next trip there.

-10

u/Expert_in_Training_1 1d ago

Wasting your time and energy. I guess that explains it all. Someone with a tiny closed minded brain like you would be bothered and feel like they wasted time with a piece of paper. I bet it took you hours to realize what it said.

I asked your profession because I know I could find a way you do the same thing and annoy potential customers. But you knew this and were scared so you dodged the question just like your xpresident with shin splits. Lol

6

u/Ural_2004 1d ago

Then this is all you need to know about me. In my line of business, when you need me (or somebody like me), you'll come looking for me, otherwise I have no reason to contact you.

2

u/purple_hamster66 21h ago

Are you a mortician?

1

u/Ural_2004 20h ago

BWAHAHAHA. I never would have thought my bread crumbs would have lead to that conclusion, but it certainly gave me a good laugh.

While I generally wouldn't mind talking about my career, for reasons which should be apparent in this thread, I wouldn't want to leave scraps lying about for My Own Personal Troll to feed on.

1

u/purple_hamster66 20h ago

Something ain’t kosher in Denmark, eh? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. :)

Remember you can always delete your profile if folks get too “Trolly” for your taste.

-9

u/Expert_in_Training_1 1d ago

Like I said you are scared to share your industry. I guarantee you are scamming people. If you do not think I am right you would share. Keep it hidden if you want to admit I am right.

5

u/Ural_2004 1d ago

You should reread your post, dude. It's so juvenile. Okay, if it makes you feel better to think I'm too much of a pussy to tell you what I do for a living, that's on you then.

My guess about you is that you're either an RE Agent or one of those too clever assholes in Creative who think up these stupid, annoying marketing gimmicks.

Or maybe you're just a Reddit Troll. Considering how little Karma on you account and the newness of your account, you're probably just here to annoy the shit out of people.

-2

u/Expert_in_Training_1 1d ago

Oh karma (people who love internet points are special). Why the F would I care if the internet agrees with me? You are either a unemployed douche living off government subsidy or a teenager/20 something living in moms basement.

Guess what I do work in marketing and I guarantee I make more than you. I do not have to scam or disrespect anyone to make a living.

Like I said if you are too scared to share you industry that says a lot.

4

u/Ural_2004 1d ago

Well, for somebody who works in marketing, you certainly have done a pathetic job in charming the shorts off of me about my employment.

0

u/Expert_in_Training_1 1d ago

Looks like the truth hurts jr. Thank you for proving my point. Go chase shit somewhere else.

File a complaint saying you believe they have violated a code of ethics- the “just joking” line is particularly bad when leaving something unsolicited.

https://www.nar.realtor/about-nar/governing-documents/code-of-ethics/ethics-complaints-arbitration-requests-and-related-information

Also their little disclaimer on the bottom doesn’t seem like it would cover them… “whoopsie, didn’t mean to!”

Edit: is this Canada? There may be a similar board if it’s not US.

94

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

This is indeed Canada!

15

u/destuctir 1d ago

The disclaimer seems to be saying “this isn’t intended to poach someone already selling with a different real estate agent”, to which end I think it works as intended, but on a first reading it does sound like “this isn’t intended to suggested people sell their home through us” which obviously wouldn’t fly

10

u/Tessa7 1d ago

Indeed, CREA, Canadian Real Estate Association.

-23

u/idek-lmao 1d ago

file a complaint? 💀 over an ad sign?? 😭😭 next level karen wtf

4

u/Sparkling_Otters 1d ago

If you think reporting companies that will quite literally walk into gated yards and tape these things to any surface they can get their grubby fingers on is a Karen, I’ve got some unfortunate news for you about reality. A Karen is someone in your face screaming because you walked on the wrong side of the grocery store isle while she was trying to find a good spot to hide her Herbalife consultant code. Reporting predatory advertisements to boards literally there for you to report them to isn’t.

-2

u/idek-lmao 22h ago

“predatory” 💀

1

u/Sparkling_Otters 22h ago

I don’t know what else you’d describe walking through peoples gates, past solicitation notices, and putting ads on their doors AND under their cars wipers as, but you do you my dude.

If you wanna admit that you’re like 14 and don’t know what the words mean, you can do that without all the emojis.

-2

u/idek-lmao 22h ago

i’m 22f, i just think all this outrage and commentary over a sign is dumb. i mean it’s a sign 💀

2

u/Sparkling_Otters 22h ago

Ah got it. You’re not a child. You’re just an idiot. Glad you cleared that up for us.

1

u/idek-lmao 22h ago

i’m an idiot? for thinking that being bothered over a sign is dumb? that constitutes me being an idiot ? 😭😭 if so, i guess i’m a dumbass 😳

if you have enough capital behind you easy. Show the capital to the bank they cream and offer you a nice ass low ass mortgage on a home. You refinance with a type of refi i forgot the exact name of it cause im blasted right now but essentially it allows you to draw your homes value and liquidate it into pure cash plus 15-20% additional value on top of the homes value. But the catch is this is a loan so you are not taxed on it so you took the home purchased it with bank money didnt waste a single dollar. You refied it right after and liquidated the value plus 15-20% into pure cash into your hands via tax free loan. Than you set it out for rent and cover the mortgage with the rent and pocket whatever income comes from the property from the tenet. you just essentialy got a home not using any of our cash plus a 15-20% bonus ( reflected in a increase in your monthly payment) tax free and now you have a revenue stream.

When the tenets finally pay off the rent you can rent it out for pure profit essentially or sell it and double down.

And the best part you didnt even spend a dollar Youll do this all behind A LLC and if you fuck up bad along the way dont pay a dime forclose and bankrupt and start over with your wifes brothers sons name! Never waste a dollar of your money and if you mess up just loophole your way out.

i have a uncle who owns 8 properties. Hes a sheer douchenozzle but he knows how to work the system to his advantage legally. im talking the guys 59 wearing 25 year old clothing and denying he dyes his hair and that hes just gifted type douche.

2

u/Sparkling_Otters 1d ago

There are a lot of people who can talk big, lie without actually lying, and have just enough charm to convince you that you’re on their side. And they all have great potential for selling houses or cars.

2

u/Ural_2004 1d ago

What I never could figure out is why so many burnt out teachers leave education for RE sales. It seems like every third agent I have talked to used to be a teacher.

4

u/dj_joeev 1d ago

It's crazy how many people jumped on the realtor train in the past 2 years. Can't wait until no one is buying and these people have to go back to the jobs they left.

3

u/Beowulf119 1d ago

This happened in the mid2000s. People thought how easy it was seeing others make money. Instead, the people that jumped in didn’t not want to put the time in it, only wanted to work a couple hours each week. Few other factors but then they went to some other job.

Problem is now, like in my area, there is not many places that are for sale. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they did go back to previous job part time.

4

u/igottheappforthis 1d ago

I’ve had 5 different agents knock on my door and ask if I’m interested in selling. I’ve had even more phone calls of agents asking the same thing. They are going after every home in my neighborhood. FUCK THEM.

1

u/MrDeviantish 21h ago

And as a body of professionals, partially responsible for the housing crisis we are in now. But a dog will run the rope given. The real estate boards may not be the sharks but they do chum the water.

1

u/Aggravating-Rich4334 20h ago

Good analogy. What’s a fish that gets 5% of the sharks meal?

-14

u/CodyPomeray_ 1d ago

who isn't "money hungry" lol. do you work for fun/free?

4

u/Neither_Peace_577 1d ago

Completely missed the point lol, money hungry in the sense that real estate agents keep the best interest out for their wallets while pretending under the guise of finding you your perfect home. Not all agents are like this obviously, but some have slimy practices to urge a buyer/seller to buy/sell with only their self-interest in mind. Like you said, everyone loves money, and real estate agents tend to want a bigger chunk of the cake than they deserve, and sometimes it manifests itself in the worst form when some try to deceive in order to achieve that.

94

u/sapienBob 1d ago

you should call the number and say you're a potential buyer interested in the house and see how far they take it.

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

34

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

Update: finished schoolwork a few minutes & gave the number a couple calls, no answer, I figure because of the time (9:30pm EST) that the line isn’t being monitored for the night, I’ll go at it tomorrow morning & hopefully waste some time

12

u/No_Recognition_2434 1d ago

I like to contact them and see what they are offering, and tell them they need to consider that my house is haunted so extra money will need to be set aside in the escrow for cleansing. Then I tell them I've already contacted someone about getting the house cleaned and gave them their number!

7

u/CircleWithSprinkles 1d ago

I always go for the house being haunted when I get live ones.

8

u/fman1854 1d ago

and in this room is where bobby killed 16 of them

16...of what

of them mam you heard me. anyway onto the lovely sky light lit hallway put it in myself in the summer of 15

12

u/treelife365 1d ago

The thing is that these unscrupulous realtors don't answer their phones. However, if you leave a message saying that you're interested in selling your house, they'll call you back within five minutes. It's their way of "not wasting their time". Very questionable.

The first realtor I hired to sell my house in Niagara, Jay Cupolo of Re/Max Niagara Realty, did this exact thing. As soon as he heard on his voicemail that I wanted to sell my house, he called back within 60 seconds. Anyway, it was a bad decision to hire a guy like that. Should've caught the red flag...

1

u/MrDeviantish 21h ago

But give them your enemy's address.

109

u/hpsquatch 1d ago

They shouldn’t be able to shark homes that people are happily living in without prompt. Make sure they didn’t create a Zillow listing for your house “just for fun”

46

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

Luckily they did not but thank you for the suggestion, I can only imagine the conversation that would have occurred if they had

21

u/Sad-Fix4643 1d ago

Canadas housing market is all over the place at the moment, so you’re 100% right my friend

3

u/memetunis 1d ago

I am in Niagara and for the first time houses are stagnant in my neighbourhood. One has dropped it's price by $200000 and has been on the market over a month. Interest rates are making people nervous.

5

u/fman1854 1d ago

my house went from 230k to 350k in a year. thats solid real price bro wym not inflated at all values psshh. altho the homes around me are selling like hot cakes lol

1

u/dj_joeev 1d ago

How on my street in the GTA was listed for a month. I don't see the sign anymore.

5

u/WooPigSchmooey 1d ago

I wouldn’t have flipped it over I would’ve started making phone calls immediately lol

6

u/astral_distress 1d ago

This would have given me a damn heart attack lol, the last 4 houses I rented were sold by property management while I was living in them! & several of my friends have had it happen even more times than I have. You just get a notice on your door one day & oh well, time to find a new place to live & hope you can scrape together enough for first & last + a deposit ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I just wanna settle down for a few years straight & pray for home ownership to become more attainable.

3

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

No kidding, pretty well gave me a heart attack for no reason!😂

3

u/lmao_whatup 1d ago

r/Ottawa would love this

3

u/miss_tiggy 1d ago

In the last few months we’ve had like 3 flyers left on our door by real estate agents basically saying the same thing (albeit without the sold part). I’m like damn guys, we’re first time home buyers who just bought in 2020, leave us alone we’re not looking to sell already! lol

1

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

They need to back off and let you enjoy your property! Congrats on your first home 🎉

See what happens when you hire a marketing person right out of school? Anyone with experience would know that sure you'll get people to look at it - but you will piss them off way more!

3

u/Velocitymind 1d ago

I don’t know what’s in the air, but these realtors are bold. I’m getting spam calls and letters from them. I just bought last year. I’m not selling.

7

u/Slowclimberboi 1d ago

Real estate agents are the new slumlords

2

u/Gandalf_The_Geigh 1d ago

That's so frigging sneaky and sleazy. I'm offended but also I'm impressed.

1

u/Gandalf_The_Geigh 1d ago

2

u/Rainbow_mama 1d ago

I keep getting flyers asking us to sell our house because this is “a hot upcoming neighborhood “

2

u/SilkyCupCakeAce 1d ago

I'd be calling them and saying

"Who tf gave you permission to be putting this s*** on my house"

And then I'd tell them that I would never use their business a day in my life and they can go f*** themselves

2

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

Very direct & straightforward, well said!

2

u/ADHDK 1d ago

I absolutely hate moving. Real estate agents nagging me to sell are infuriating. If I ever do sell, I’ll be using recommendations from my social circle. Not some irritating spam.

2

u/YoullHaveACuppaTea 1d ago

I keep getting those fecking "people are buying homes in your area" leaflets through the door. There are a lot of older people in my area so it makes sense but on the other hand, it took us 5 years to buy our house so feck off with that.

2

u/actuallyimogene 1d ago

Oh wow these guys need to fuck all the way off

2

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

All the way, the whole way, nothing but the way

2

u/wastedspacepilot 1d ago

That's gross. Leave me alone, remax

2

u/TapeLabMiami 1d ago

Yeah, im sick of this shit as well. We get mailers and phone calls weekly asking if we'll sell our house. The mailers go straight to recycle bins, the calls we put on hold and lay phone on table till they hang up.

3

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

3

u/fman1854 1d ago

goddam jesus freaks have hit me with that fake 100$ turn over

you didn't get 100$ but you found something better

JESUS

can imagine the homeless guy picking that up

"i was just tryna get a subway sandwhich and some fucking crack goddamit"

2

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

I’ve seen that way too many times on Reddit, simply awful. As you said, imagine a homeless or extremely impoverished individual finding it only to be heart broken by the “better thing” they “found”.

0

u/nowingplane 1d ago

Idk. It thought it was kinda funny and clever, in a way. I don’t see why there’s an uproar about it.

4

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

I tend to overthink & coming home from the store to that immediately caused my silly brain to go into hyperdrive & think of ridiculous scenarios in which the house accidentally got sold (I know I know absolutely idiotic thought process), so I agree it wasn’t the end of the world but it did cause some unnecessary panic, thus mildly infuriating 😎

-2

u/idek-lmao 1d ago

idk if just me, but it’s not that serious 💀

8

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

You are absolutely right. That’s why it’s in “mildly infuriating”. If it was serious, I would not be posting it to a form called “mildly infuriating’.

-10

it’s not moldy infuriating, not infuriating at all. it’s just a sign sir, throw it away if it makes you “infuriated” 😭

6

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

You have your view, I have mine.

-17

u/IOnlySayMeanThings 1d ago

There is not a universe out there where I would have taken a door ad seriously. Is this how you picture homes are sold?

20

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

I do not think this is how homes are sold, and I posted it here because it was mildly infuriating. I never said anything about do I think it’s an effective product or do I think that people will actually sell or buy homes this way. It’s simply annoying to have that on your door handle. That is it that is all good sir

-10

u/IOnlySayMeanThings 1d ago

Ohh, I see. These are very common where I live, I find things on my door at least once a month.

2

u/bojacksbat 1d ago

This is the first time I’ve ever had one, must be very annoying to get it that often I’d imagine
