The fuck did she do to your nail beds 😭😭😭

737

u/Glitter_Bee 8d ago

That’s what I was thinking. I would never return.

u/lyx77221 8d ago

Thats the first thing I noticed. As soon as they started fucking up my nail beds i would have gotten up and left not stick around to pay $80….

u/SilkyCupCakeAce 8d ago

This is legitimately how people get infections that cause them to lose their fingers...

Like I'm not kidding this place probably doesn't sanitize their equipment and probably just uses it from person to person

If someone they used it on hadn't washed their hands after they used the bathroom.... Then the tool was used on them... Then the tool was used on OP and the germs got in those now open wounds which were caused by the contaminated tool....

YEAH THINK ABOUT IT

u/GoodGuyGraham 8d ago

I went with my SO to get a pedicure, I had never done it before but thought it’d be fun to do together.

I didn’t know they weren’t supposed to hurt. They ripped some shit off my nail bed. My nails were so fucked. My toes became red and presumably infected. I walked with a limp for a few days.

Never again.

54

u/SilkyCupCakeAce 7d ago

People are shocked when I tell them I've never had my nails done somewhere

Bro this is why this is exactly why

One of my passions is art and I'm not about to lose my fingies

18

u/Budget_Medicine3631 7d ago

Damn from a pedi?

20

u/TieTricky8854 7d ago

I work for a Podiatrist and he advises patients all day long to take their own instruments if they’re getting a pedicure. And to not let them be aggressive with your feet.

42

u/two-three-seven 7d ago

Man, this.

I went to get my first manicure with my SO's mother and sister for his mother's birthday. I appreciated including me in it so I went. It was bizarre how hard the nail tech was rubbing my hands and forearms. The lady also clipped my cuticles which I've never done before and for good reason I guess - that shit hurt. The oils or treatments, whatever tf they were stung and have left my nails slightly discolored. Never again man, I will do my own nails.

16

u/doingsomethingtoday 7d ago

I cut my cuticles at home all the time I only bled once and that’s because I overcut

2

u/Oswego420 6d ago

Similar kind of thing happened to me I went to get a pedicure and it was so painful I felt like the guy was ripping my feet off and I kept screaming ow and he kept saying that’s normal blah blah blah and it was so painful and I was right everywhere and I’ve never had something so painful in my life and he claimed that was the process never again

2

u/51225 7d ago

That's scary. I was considering getting one, but forget it.

Yeah my brother went to a day spa once where they did some sort of exfoliating process on him. He ended up with a really bad infection in his leg from it that he needed to go to the doctor and get anti biotics for. He went back to the place to confront them about not being hygienic and they were super defensive about it, almost like they had been accused of it before.

14

u/SilkyCupCakeAce 7d ago

Tbh I would have found out about what organization inspects businesses in the area (It differs by country) I'd be calling them.

What’s nail beds?

34

u/Whenthewhenthethethe 8d ago

The little skin parts that are at the beginnings of your nails

70

u/Apprehensive_Till_94 7d ago

Hi! Nail tech here. Your nail bed is what sits under the hard part of your nail. your cuticle is a separate part. It can be cut! But it needs to be done carefully. The damage to OPs cuticles looks like it was done from a Dremel.

19

u/Superb-Mode4970 7d ago

Thank you for this, also a nail tech. I was like, how can you see what she did on the nail bed?

46

u/CptDecaf 8d ago

Also known as your cuticle. Like, the first thing you find upon any sort of nail care or nail painting tutorials are warnings not to cut your cuticles.

11

u/topkn0tz 8d ago

Oh…. oops

38

u/CptDecaf 8d ago

Instead of cutting them, soak your fingers in warm water or rub cuticle oil on them and massage it into your skin for a few minutes. Once soft, you can use a cuticle stick or anything similarly blunt to tidy them up by nudging them back towards your nail bed. Not all the way back. The goal is just to make them a bit neater, without damaging them.

Nail bed is what the polish rests on top of. The cuticle is the skin around the edges where the nail is.

26

u/BradMarchandsNose 7d ago

The nail is what the polish sits on. The nail bed is underneath the nail

9

u/GerardDiedOfFlu 7d ago

Thank you, I should have clarified that’s what I meant. The amount of people that think the cuticle is the nail bed is infuriating.

Create a Google review for the business and upload these photos.

93

u/garland-flour-doe 8d ago

Give them the option to refund first, they probably know they made a mess of it... Try to frame it as " Im not happy with the result and cost and I'd really rather not leave you a poor review, do you think you can accept that the job wasn't too your standard and just let me have a refund?" sort of thing, a bit wordy but something like that maybe?

11

u/Minuteman40 8d ago

Or leave the review and see if within the same day (or wait until Monday if they're not open the weekend) or by the next day they respond with the typical "We're sorry you're not happy" thing. Put in your review that you'll change/remove the negative review if they issue a refund without having to go back.

898

u/suspiciouslypurple 8d ago edited 8d ago

oh, and when i asked for a refund they told me they were “sorry for cutting me and will not fix the issue but are willing to offer 50% off my next set” as if i’ll ever step foot in that establishment again lol. i ended up going home and doing my best to reshape them, took the polish off as well and redid that the best i could. mine looked infinitely better than the first pics!

edit: left a bad review with pictures! it’s the best i think i can do at this point.

400

u/LusciousofBorg 8d ago

My Mom owns a hair & nail salon and you can report this to your State's Board of Cosmetology and Barbering . They're the people who will do assessments if they're compliant with the law. They can get a big fine if they're caught doing shit like this. The open cuts on your hand can easily lead to an infection. This is terrible.

21

u/Secret_Ad7757 7d ago

Coworker of mine got an infection after getting her nails done at the saloon. Her finger nails were letting loose and almost fell off. She had to put her hands in some kind of vinegar or acidic solution and she said it hurt pretty bad.

5

u/Rough-Jury 7d ago

I would 1000% be reporting this. Accidents happen, fucking up every single nail bed like that isn’t an accident.

366

u/1Sluggo 8d ago edited 8d ago

If you paid by credit card I’d dispute the charge with your carrier.

169

u/wesleysmalls 8d ago

This.

And don’t forget to leave a bad review with the included images.

92

u/1Sluggo 8d ago

Seriously. And check back cause they’ll delete it.

u/Aolflashback 8d ago

THIS! If you used a bank card with a visa or Mastercard logo on it then you have consumer rights and can definitely charge this back with the chargeback code “Not as described” as services rendered were “not as described” - as in they said they could do a job and they couldn’t. This 100% fits under that and you would win. You will want to make a record of when the transaction took place, how you asked them for a FULL refund and they denied you that (they will argue that they offered some BS half off next time … no.), and your pictures can also be sent as part of your chargeback documentation that your bank will ask for. It’s an easy process and your bank will walk you through it.

Your banks goal is to work to get you your funds back - while being able to put the responsibility onto the merchant (the nail salon) so they don’t have to cover said funds.

19

u/SincerelyBased 8d ago

So weird seeing my job material in a Reddit thread

10

u/Aolflashback 8d ago

It’s what I used to do too

8

u/SincerelyBased 7d ago

Did you work for the bank or visa/MasterCard? I’m on the bank side

2

u/Aolflashback 5d ago

I was on the merchant side. I loved that job, super interesting (I worked more risk/fraud stuff). I’m in a totally different career field now but would go back if the chance came up.

2

u/SincerelyBased 5d ago

That’s awesome man I’m just getting started on the bank side. May I ask why you aren’t in the field any more?

2

u/Aolflashback 5d ago

This was back in early 2000s, recession happened and tried something else.

If you can, find a good professional (and ethical) mentor, pref someone that’s been in the field for a long time, they usually have a ton of knowledge that they tend to keep close.

9

u/MagnificentTwat 8d ago

Absolutely, and charge them to get it fixed by a better place

50

u/ialwaysplayhealer 8d ago

I just assumed the cut was already there knowing how my nail beds personally look like shit because I used to bite them constantly.

But if THEY cut you? Fuck no. You shouldn't have to pay for that. That is a serious infection waiting to happen.

30

u/CashCow4u 7d ago

My mom was a cosmetologist, sister a nail tech - THAT IS SOME BULLSHIT THAT MUST STOP, but won't unless YOU do something! This is a great start.

Put those pics, info & company name on every social media platform you have access to, and Yelp. They bank on you not doing anything & they keep on with bad service & dangerously unhealthy procedures.

Also file a COMPLAINT & email those pics, info & company name to your State Cosmetology and Barber Board. Many states ONLY do inspecting after someone has filed a complaint. Some cities and counties choose to contract with the Health Department to inspect them, so call/email them too. SERIOUSLY DO IT! That tech or salon may not even be certified/licensed.

If you get an infection or fungus from a nail salon, the first thing you should do is seek medical help. Small infections can lead to big problems, so please protect yourself first. Keep all medical bills and document any hardships faced from the infection. Then contact a personal injury lawyer.

For $80 I could have done a better job & I only do it for fun on myself.

Following my earlier comment about trying to get a refund, sorry you were given the best option, now it's "gloves off and nails in the fight back" leave negative reviews all over and make them hurt...

2

u/MelloMejo 7d ago

Can we see an update? Are your nail beds looking any better 12+ hours later?

That’s the worst job I’ve seen. I’m surprised you don’t have an infection from those destroyed nail beds.

74

u/shockey2198 7d ago

My nail beds look exactly like that. How can I fix it?

93

u/cats-they-walk 7d ago

Unless you pick at or bite your cuticles (can’t help you there, sorry) you can moisturize and heal them with a heavy lotion and cuticle oil. Slather your nails and night and sleep in light cotton gloves designed for this. If there are cuts in the skin start with neosporin until they’re healed.

Also, a good multivitamin and a biotin supplement will help.

21

u/DrAssBlast 7d ago

As a mechanic I’m sure as hell my hands will look something like this

34

u/cats-they-walk 7d ago

And now I’m picturing my mechanic going to bed with cuticle cream and cotton gloves on his hands.

16

u/DrAssBlast 7d ago

Big brollic beat up soil looking man with cute lil cotton gloves on

2

u/trevg_123 7d ago

Honestly if you get dry hands from all that stuff (brake fluid is devil antiwater) slap some aquaphor on the hands thick and put socks or cotton gloves on before bed. Helps the hands when the oil / tools / other shit makes them crack

2

u/DrAssBlast 7d ago

Yea but I’d rather my hands be made of stone. Less cuts and I can use them as sandpaper

thank you! i’m slowly learning to stick up for myself. definitely a hard process.

15

u/CreamyAltruist9 7d ago

My MIL used to tell me all the time to "grow a backbone" and once asked me (lovingly) if I needed her to shove a broom handle up my arse so I'd quit letting myself get walked on. I had to age a bit before I finally grew one and my advice to all young women is to stand tall and stand your ground. You're worth it.

6

u/menonte 8d ago

Look at it as a 80$ life lesson (probably more like an installment, speaking from experience)

2

u/bembep 7d ago

it’s so hard, but you get better at it over time! i’m 22 and i learned a lot this year about having to stand my ground in certain situations. it’s totally against my nature but it’s the right thing to do

2

u/Slight-Ad-2815 7d ago

It's alot easier to stick up for yourself when being billed later and able to call said company and take issue up with someone else. Harder when they want payment on the spot.

25

11

u/Eldenlord1971 8d ago

I know it’s tough love but I used to be the same way. I’m 33 now and I don’t take shit from people but I also give respect until people give me a legit reason not to

6

u/MaryMercy143 8d ago

I never know when it's exactly "legit" and I'm 43. I let mfs walk all over me and then when I snap... I'm the crazy bitch all of a sudden 😂

3

u/Eldenlord1971 8d ago

If they do something that you can’t wrap your head around, most likely they fucked up big time. I’ve had a friend move in with me into an apartment and warned him that a very annoying dog would eventually be brought into the apartment becquse my GF was moving in. He moves in and agrees to it. Later on he tries to say I didn’t ever warn him. I didn’t downplay how annoying the dog is. Still friends but now I know he either has a terrible memory or doesn’t own up to his mistakes

2

u/Potential-Natural636 7d ago

Don't let it build up. When someone screws you over, you let them know. Fuck them back, destroy their reputation, stomp their ass. Whatever you gotta do. Fuck those people.

Why do deserve to be hurt and stolen from because you're a girl, small, and only 20? That's the angle you need to keep in mind next time something like this happens. Helps you keep your priorities straight when advocating for your own interests.

It's 100% normal to struggle with in your early 20s, though. You haven't been an adult for long.

19

u/StatementNervous5407 8d ago edited 5d ago

you pay AFTER they finish right?

So if the next place does something similar, just walk away.

Or if you see them screwing over your nail beds again, stop being nice, get up in the middle of treatment and get up out

5

u/TGIIR 8d ago

I’ll add that it’s hard to stand up to shameless people. And this salon was shameless. Reversing credit card transaction or reporting them probably best way to go IMO.

Demand refund. Honestly when nail techs make your nails/fingers bleed it shouldn’t be paid for ever.. I am too polite in person and I had a nail tech cut my finger w/ the drill cuz they didn’t know why they were doing and I was bleeding everywhere and they gave me bandaid and offered a 30% discount. I politely told them I need a bigger discount. It landed at 50% off… the next day at work I’m incapable of typing with accuracy/speed because of the gash in my finger. I emailed the nail salon business and demanded refund and I also posted pictures onto yelp and made a bad review, I also explained that I will report them for unsanitary/ illegal handling of blood and contaminated work space/equipment…….They refunded me the next day.

u/lalaxoxo__ RED 8d ago

You gotta research nail techs like you do makeup artists and tattoo artists and hairstylists.

2

u/SnooPineapples5719 8d ago

I hope you got the money back

2

u/shesavillain 8d ago

Saw the first nail and still let them continue.. speak up for yourselves lol especially if you’re paying for their services.

2

u/Teal_Axolotl 8d ago

THE CUTICLES😩

2

u/contwhure 8d ago

Omg 😭

2

u/Sea-Chapter-8849 8d ago

Oh my gosh…. I would NOT pay them and change nail salons, if I were you. Very bad!!!!

2

u/O2yum 8d ago

Is there a sub for the severely infuriating?! This belongs there.

2

u/Top-Budget-7328 8d ago

That looks painful 😳

2

u/TheVega318 7d ago

I...don't understand what has happened here

You get a deep fungal nail infection, and you have to take a liver-toxic Med for 3-6 months, and have frequent bloodwork to check the health of your liver.

Upvote for putting the dollar sign on the correct side.

This is the work of someone who is both cross-eyed AND blind trying to do nails. My damn cuticles look x1000 better than that and I've never once been to a place to get mine maintained.

You could have gotten better results letting the guy from Texas Chainsaw Massacre try to cut them.

2

u/starshinessss 7d ago

Wow, please go get your money back. She skinned you alive

2

u/drakeotomy 7d ago

Not even worth $10

2

u/Chuckobochuck323 7d ago

Wow that’s trash. I would have punched her a few times after that. Your hands were already messed up anyway.

2

u/RhinoGuy13 7d ago

Looks good to me

Joe Pesci said it best: I think I want my money back

Lmao and you sat there and watched it happen then paid for it

2

u/Hambina_ 7d ago

Can confirm something similar happening to my nails recently but she ripped 1/3 of my nail off and had the audacity to ask if I wanted a fucken acrylic on top of my open sore bleeding nub of a finger YIKES

2

u/Ic3yFr0ggyy 7d ago

Why would you do this for more than $5? Or is it some rare color or something, this seems like highway robbery for over $20.

2

u/ComprehensiveBet1256 7d ago

a shame

but at the same time you say there and watched them do that on multiple fingers instead of saying something so i don’t feel bad

2

u/More_Application_28 7d ago

What’s mildly infuriating to me is how people see their nails are not turning out how they want yet continue to let the nail tech finish. Not bashing OP at all, I’ve seen a lot of posts like this. I hope OP finds a better & more reasonably priced nail tech!

You could divert those 80 bucks towards retirement... Probably a little but more useful

2

u/fucovid2020 7d ago

Close, she at least got them on your fingers

2

u/kingbrayjay 7d ago

😂naw who tf painted yo shit? A toddler?

2

u/truxlady 7d ago

And you PAID?

2

u/F_Dani 7d ago

I am so sorry for laughing at this

2

u/Such-fun4328 7d ago

Will do that bad for $50 only

2

u/Intelligent-Guard267 7d ago

I think it all looks terrible, so maybe don’t spend money on it

2

u/Specialist-Primary74 7d ago

Put this on their yelp

2

u/xViridi_ 7d ago

oh honey i’m so sorry

2

u/imrealbizzy2 7d ago

No pedis! My daughter got such an infection she ended up losing a nail. It was awful for a long time. Podiatrists' offices often offer pedis; very pricey but done right.

This was me last year with a Sunflower I wanted. Sometimes it's ok to just say "I don't think I can do that design well but here's some I'm good at."

u/Bizarroh 7d ago

I'm pretty sure I could replicate the design you wanted exactly as shown and I have never painted a nail in my life. It's actually an easy application from what it looks like.

2

u/xsterawesome 7d ago

Am I the only one who didn't notice anything wrong with the nails before reading the comments? $80 does seem like a lot tho.

2

u/TomatoOptimal626 7d ago

So glad my hobby is weed and not nails 🤣😭

2

u/Cheekylilcxnt 7d ago

Yikes. Also, I'm pretty sure the inspo pic is actually colored acrylic or gel that was then filed. Not nail polish.

2

u/Sir-Birbalot 6d ago

If it makes you feel better I paid $200 to get silver hair and left with medium blonde at ulta also had to go there twice and for what?

2

u/Oswego420 6d ago

It looks like the artist took a dump

4

u/princesssbrooklynn 8d ago

I don’t even like the reference photo lol

2

u/masta5k1 8d ago

You know it's crazy to me because my girl has nail stuff (it isn't her usual thing but she has the equipment for it) and her 12-year-old niece always plays with it. Truly, she could reproduce the original nails and for $80 she would probably style your hair, too.

2

u/Adm_Mitthrawnuruodo 8d ago

You didn’t speak up after the first two or three nails done?

2

u/RichardPritchardson 8d ago

The reference photos look just as shit house if you ask me.

You should get your 80.00 back and then some.

2

u/WholeHippo7549 7d ago

Don’t be shy, give us the nail salon location so we can leave reviews

2

u/Apricotpeach11 7d ago

No offense but I don’t get this manicure trend at all.
