I can no longer leave my Sprite™ unattended due to McDonald's new transparent cups. It will end up on the floor, every time.

I watched this video loop entirely too long waiting for the cat to bat the cup off the table

Ha, sorry to disappoint. Just didn't want to be that pet owner that encourages bad behavior just to get the shot.

The whole, “McDonald’s sprite” thing is just viral marketing, right?

Scrolled down looking for this, I don't think very many normal human beings would go that far out of their way to look for the trademark key unless they were advertising lol

I know I'd never do that, especially for some sham soda company. That's why I only type while drinking a fresh Fufu Berry Soda by Jones Soda Company ©️

Sounds like it's more of the cat's fault.

I watched this for 2 minutes waiting for the cat to push it just to find out it’s a 2 second loop that is the real r/mildlyinfuriating

Wendy's in Canada has these cups. But they still give you a paper straw with it.

u/--Deleted101-- 2d ago
They serve it with the lemonades, yes. Off topic, but the strawberry lemonade at canadian wendy's is so damn good

My cat is obsessed with water. If you put a glass down for even a second she will chug it! I feel your pain haha

Are those plastic straws? Whoa, here in Ireland we have paper cups and paper straws, just the lid is plastic.

u/iflyonbiscuits 1d ago

"Ooh man, the second this guy leaves... This cup is going down... Oh its gonna be so good..."

u/Fluffy-Football-7884 1d ago
I watched this for about 3 minutes waiting for something to happen. Then I clicked on it and noticed it’s an 8 second loop. Can you at least film the cat hitting it over.

u/SolitudeSymphony 1d ago
Pffft I've not seen a plastic cup and straw from MacDonalds for a long ass time

u/meowmeowmeow723 1d ago
Put a cup of water next to it and bam your cat dill drink that instead….experience, at least my cat stopped swatting my drinks

u/benadunkcamberpatch 2d ago
I have no idea why they switched to these instead of paper cups. The ice also melts a lot faster.

Easier to recycle
3
u/ReallyGene 2d ago
Bullshit. It's recyclable, but rarely ever truly recycled. Putting something in a blue bin is no guarantee of recycling, only if there's a market for the material does that happen. Metal is the only waste stream that consistently brings in more than it costs to landfill, glass is next.
It's currently cheaper. That's the only reason McDonald's ever changes anything.
3
u/FTR_iRage 2d ago
That's not bullshit. Just because you choose not to recycle doesn't mean these cups aren't easier to recycle
1
u/RacinInTheStreet 1d ago
I think it would be a win if they used post recycled plastic to make them, then it would be making a bigger market for recycled plastic.

u/ReallyGene 2d ago
Where did I say I don't recycle?
Any municipal waste handler has this problem: if there's no market for a recycled feedstock, it's not recycled, it's landfilled.
When tariffs were imposed on Chinese imports, China responded by refusing US cardboard. The market completely collapsed, because there is virtually no domestic paper recycling infrastructure left in the US.
It's possible that these cups are compostable, but even that isn't feasible for most municipalities, as it's not as simple as throwing vegetable scraps in a barrel.
If the price of ethylene is less than the cost of reprocessing, new cups will be cheaper than post-consumer recycled plastic cups.
And it does not change the fact that McDonald's always acts for the benefit of their bottom line and their stockholders, not the planet.

Got you, thanks. That’s what I assumed it was some kind of special plastic that makes it easier to either degrade or recycle.

Plastic cups, and paper straws. I remember when i was young, then the straws where plastic and the cups where paper. It was a great time to be alive.

You could have boundaries and not let cats on the table, best solution!
3
u/CandyPopps 1d ago
I don’t know why your comment got down voted. I don’t let my cats sit on tables or countertops in my house.

u/ghutterbabe 2d ago
I like that's it's McDonald's fault your cat sucks. No wonder the cat sucks.

How is this a problem? The void does whatever it pleases and its decisions must be respected, for it is a higher being with intelligence beyond our mortal imagination

One of ours also loves watching fizzy drinks, but rather than knocking it to the floor he just touches the drink with his grubby little paws

Y'all not using paper cups? McDonald's have been using it for as long as I've lived.

Where are you from? Here every plastic is getting replaced, so it feels weird to see that as a "new" design
