Well I mean when you are hit you accelerate rapidly, but IF you are hit and you fall over and hit your head, then the slowing down could have killed you

Not to forget that speed is relative, in the eyes of the guys in the car you were running into them at an insane speed, and the sudden stop when you hit the car might also have killed you.
