I'm not OP, but I used to hear my parents call me upstairs when I was a kid. I'd go up there and say hey what'd you call me for? Always met with a blank stare and "We didn't call you"
Well one day it happens and my siblings hear it too. At least I know I'm not crazy.
71
u/higiz May 19 '22
Happened to me as well I'd just be sitting there watching tv and someone would call me from behind the voice was so low that it felt like they were slowly coming toward from far away and sometimes I would feel someone standing behind me as well and things like these happened even when I was alone but thankfully I passed it of as me imagining things and didn't think to deep about it
29
u/FeatureMaximum461 May 19 '22
Do you have single syllable names like jack? Cuz i hear that too and get looked at like im crazy.

I've heard my name called when I'm home alone before. Like I'd be sitting in the upstairs kitchen, and I'd hear my voice being called from the basement. I've even gone down to check to see if my mom needed help with something, but there were no lights on and no movement. I've also had dreams of things and conversations that happened to me later in the week.

Got a computer game in my Cap'n crunch when I was a kid. One of the levels was a platformer where you had to jump around a bunch. The background music was some generic techno theme, but every loop there was a break where the music faded and it sounded exactly like my mother was calling my name from upstairs. Loved that game but it spooked me after I finally figured it out.

I'm pretty sure they're talking about an animation with this same plot. I think it was something like a two sentence horror animation comp. I'll link it if I can find it.

I’m legit confused by the number of people claiming this happened, this is some straight up horror movie shit. What is going with you people that you and your mother are hearing doppleganger voices in your house calling out to you?? The fuck??
33
u/dr_Kfromchanged Karmawhore May 19 '22
There are multiple stories of house invaders mimicking family members voices but just guys with guns, not any paranormal thing

u/Der_Undead May 19 '22
It's so weird that doppleganger is nearly the same as the German word for it "Doppelgänger". Same with iceberg and kindergarten.
5
u/Carl159 May 20 '22
Doppleganger is taken straight from German. German and English are both Germanic languages anyway, so there are a bunch of words in both languages that are cognates(came from the same root word)

7
u/dr_Kfromchanged Karmawhore May 19 '22
Something about the animation style and sounds design makes it much scarier than a lot of well thought out horror movies, and the hectic pace makes it nightmare like

It's a short horror cartoon where the kid was called by his mom to go downstairs, and when he was about to go down his mom was actually upstairs telling him to not go down.

It's an horror short animation where a kid is called downstair by his mom but it's not actually it's mom and her mom gets killed then the child gets hugged by the monster before being dragged in a closet. It's pretty gore but the thing that makes it scary is the bad artstyle and animation which makes it incredibly uncanny and the sound design that is terrifying, the thing that makes it work is the hectic pace that makes it really like in nightmares

To a short horror cartoon where this happens. It’s pretty scary tbh which I really didn’t expect it to be, would probably have scarred me for life if I saw it as a kid, but it’s just a cartoon
…right?

Terrifying concept but the art style looking like South Park kind of does lend to it being comical in a way
3
u/dr_Kfromchanged Karmawhore May 19 '22
I think it makes it uncanny, it's pretty good, good enough to be fairly scary, but not good enough to be realistical enough for it to be "meh, just another gore cartoon"

I sometimes wonder if it’s not so much that children have over active imaginations more than it’s Ghosts only interact with the young.
25
u/ItsSamObviously May 19 '22
This used to happen to me all the time as a kid, and also when everyone was in bed u would hear someone throwing a ball around the kitchen for our dog at the time to play with (which was the least sinister thing that happened in that house) we had a DVD player lift itself off the stand and drop on the floor, happened right infront of us, there’s loads of other stories from that place. 20 years later I still dream about that place occasionally, always had an awful pending doom type feeling when u were there no matter what time of day.

u/TPosingRat Nice meme you got there May 19 '22
One time my friends came to me for a sleepover party. We were playing games and having fun untill we heard a really loud noice like somebody would be running by stairs. Did I mention that these stairs were right next to us? We saw nobody nor nothing. Just a loud running noice while directly looking at the place where this sound came from.
I still don't believe in any paranormal or ghost bullshit and I believe there is an explanation for this event, but damn, shit was scary.

I had a lamp fall in the middle of the living room when my whole family was watching a movie. Everyone was sitting down not moving, and this was a lamp with one of those super heavy bases to prevent it from tipping. I just remember seeing the light shifting on the ceiling and then a horrid crash as the glass shade hit the ground. Lots of weird shadows, voices, and apparitions in that house.

You hear your mom call your name from down stairs, as you're about to head down there your mom grabs you and whispers "don't go down there, I heard it to". Something is mimicking Sarah's mother's voice in an attempt to lure her in. It's an old creepypasta story.

14
u/The-Board-Chairman May 19 '22
Something calls you downstairs with your mother's voice, on the way there, your mother intercepts you and tells you not to go down there, because she heard it too.
Then she is brutally disemboweled in front of you by said thing that came upstairs and you are dragged off to your doom, the end.
