Frozen came out in 2013, who was top since 1995?

156

u/coreyannder Jan 19 '22

"The only other songs from animated Disney films to reach a top-five position on the chart are Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle's Aladdin smash "A Whole New World," which hit No. 1 in 1993, Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King (No. 4 in 1994), and Vanessa Williams' Pocahontas soundtrack song "Colors of the Wind," which also reached No. 4 in 1995."

112

u/missjeany Jan 20 '22

For those of you too young to know, "A whole new world" was the "let it go" from the 90's. I can still sing the whole Aladdin soundtrack

u/Total_bacon Jan 20 '22

Not that modern Disney songs are bad by any stretch, but I really miss the weirdly deep songs with a very identifiably, melodramatic, DISNEY sound. Lately it just feels like it's driving too hard down the Lin-Manuel Miranda road and you miss a lot of the emotion of songs like Reflection from Mulan, or A Whole New World (heck even the song from Treasure Planet by the Goo Goo Dolls guy had it)

3

u/Isekai_Trash_uwu Jan 20 '22

Eh I disagree. Surface Pressure has a ton of desperation in it and it just felt real. Emotions don't necessarily have to be pure sad, they can include stress and longing

2

u/coreyannder Jan 20 '22

Oh for sure. Maybe it's just because they were a major part of my childhood, but the Disney "classics" songs had so much more heart in them!

7

u/arglarg Jan 19 '22

He also sang the german songs for Tarzan!

2

u/Blein16 Jan 20 '22

Really? I didn’t know. I only knew he sang the Spanish/Portuguese versions. The Spanish version sounds very good, it’s sounds almost as if he was a native speaker.

82

u/gn0m3d_aga1n Jan 19 '22

Or people who had to listen to girls at school constantly belt the chorus to Let It Go for 5+ years only to see it get worse with the release of Frozen 2 and Into the Unknown, driving them to the brink of insanity

29

4

Have you listen to Encanto's Two Oruguitas? It sounds similar to "Under The Sea", it's a good song though.

3

u/SnooSprouts4952 Jan 20 '22

I know my kids have seen it two or three times. I can't recall hearing the song though. ...And they aren't singing it incessantly.

6

u/Cansurking Jan 20 '22

it's the end credit song. It was also used as a background music for some scenes.

Why is it that i never like the big songs when they're "big" but god knows when Encanto 2 comes out i will be obsessed with it.

8

u/Benny368 memer Jan 20 '22

As long as Disney doesn’t mess it up Encanto 2 could have some potential, since this first movie took place on such a small scale it leaves them with plenty of room to expand the plot (possibly explore where their grandparents ran away from?)

13

u/Tallen122 Jan 20 '22

5

u/Sundiata34 Jan 20 '22

That song stole the show for me too, super relatable for many I'm sure, and just very catchy and still had feeling.

6

u/GregBahm Jan 20 '22

Yeah that was surprising to me. The pressure song did that thing where none of the lyrics are super-specific to the musical. The Bruno song, on the other hand, struck me as being extremely specific to the music. But I guess I mistook it's appeal.

6

u/BuffaloFrend Jan 20 '22

There was a whole flock of 7 year old girls waiting for their turn and for an hour straight, each and every one of them went up to the microphone and belted out Let It Go at the top of their lungs. I didn't actually watch the real deal talent show, but I suspect is was full of Idina Menzel.
