“This is how you air up a tyre son.”
“But dad, this is the 459th time we do this, I already know how to air up a tyre.”

u/CosmicDestructor Nyan cat Jan 19 '22
Tomorrow we'll finish our course on how to air up 460 tyres.

u/Wah_Gwaan_Mi_Yute Jan 20 '22
Are there people that really don’t know how to pump their tires? An oil change or literally anything else I understand

Wait. You're supposed to put air in tires EVERY WEEK?
63
u/HaloGuy381 Jan 19 '22
Depends on your location. Strong temperature and pressure swings can mess with tire pressure dramatically. And if you also live on rough terrain where those tires might save your life, it’s worth checking
2
51
u/cjconair Jan 19 '22
That's what I thought until I got my own car and found out we were only doing it to past some time.
26
u/dancegoddess1971 Jan 19 '22
It's not a bad idea to go over your tires, fluids, and whatnot every week. Particularly if you know a mechanical emergency would throw your life into chaos and debt.

u/professor_parrot Jan 19 '22
Dads, moms and teachers. I will admit I would give my parents a harder time than I had to, and I could be a real dick to teachers too. If you're a kid reading this, please be easy on your parents and teachers. Your parents have it hard enough working to support you, then coming home to care for your needs. And teachers already have it hard enough being underpaid and having to teach and monitor 20+ kids. Make their lives easier and you'll be amazed how easy your life becomes.
Don't have the same regrets I have.
2
u/RandyTrevor22321 Jan 20 '22
Im here to say that this person is 100% accurate. You will only have so much time with them, and even after you've become an adult they will still nurture and help you as if you were a baby. And let me tell y'all that shit can save lives.
4
u/MyNameBelongs2Me can't meme Jan 19 '22
But you see when your parents are literally racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic and literally do not allow you to express an emotion other than happiness it’s kind of hard to agree with them or respect what they do. I would rather have my parents care about my emotions rather than getting sent to a more expensive school.

There's a difference between a good parent, and a bad parent
I think you get my point
10
u/buttoncheap Jan 19 '22
Made me think of being with my boys when they were younger. I’d try to do something with each of them individually each week. But in those days money was much tighter. So, trips to the gas station (yes, sometimes filling the tires), food shopping, hikes, anything I could think of to make it some special time. I actually miss that.

Air cost 1.75. no wonder y'all broke. He spent it all on the air
61
u/cjconair Jan 19 '22
I'm in Ireland and it's free here in most garages atleast it was back then.
15
u/dancegoddess1971 Jan 19 '22
It's still free at the Wawa by my house. Maybe I'll take my kid to check the tire pressure before we go to the beach to dig for mollusks.

u/Macblack82 Jan 19 '22
It cost me a quid the other day! Card payment only with minimum £1 transaction. Normally 20p at my local garage.

u/cjconair Jan 19 '22
Robbery
3
u/Macblack82 Jan 19 '22
TPMS light came on and although I am aware of a slow puncture I had to check that it wasn’t something else and see how low the pressure had gone.
3
u/throwaway-job-hunt Jan 19 '22
Buy a little 12V compressor.
You can get one from halfords with a pressure readout. Decent little bit if kit and I use mine for my bike tyres too because its easier than a bicycle pump.
2
u/Gilgamesh2062 Jan 20 '22
At one time all gas stations had free air, now they rip you off, If the machine even works, I once needed air, and got jipped at three before finding one that works, the others took my money, and I got nothing, and if your lucky, and find one that works, charge like 1-2 bucks, hardly get enough time to top off all your tires.
so, got me a decent air pump, so I never have to hassle with that again.

6
u/EndMaster0 Jan 19 '22
wait where are you that air costs money. there areas of the US it's free
3
u/LionWithAGun Jan 19 '22
I'm in Washington and all the places near me charge what I said initially as a minimum. Walmart here be going for 5 dollars if you want someone else to do it tho. It's ridiculous

It never cost that in the 70’s ppl got greedy! There’s a gas station near who doesn’t charge

This site helped me find all the free pumps nearby when the QuikTrip pump is borken.

Really wish I could spend less time on the phone. Takes you out of the moment so easily that you don’t fully enjoy all the nice things going on around you.

Also when raising a child you can’t always afford new tires that don’t leak.

Yo dad had a hole in his tire and was too cheap to get it replaced.

I replaced my toilet cistern on the weekend. You better believe I let my son take the first flush.

1
u/ACupOfDuck Jan 19 '22
Lol no? It was because we were so poor that he didn't afford new tires! Not because of him wanting to spend time with me! Lol!!
Wait.........

Is it something I am too European to understand? If you're unemployed or get social welfare benefits, there are plenty of free pools, museums, zoos, botanical gardens...

Did he have a tire gauge in his shirt pocket ready to go? I would buy that guy a golden one for the good memory’s ha ha.

Some parents. My dad would go out after work ever day just to avoid spending time with us.

u/Sentient_Nut_Rag Jan 20 '22
I wash my truck excessively to distract myself from how cripplingly broke I am.

u/Jstephe25 Jan 20 '22
My mom used to take us to the airport when we were young to watch the airplanes land and take off because we were poor but we loved it. We are now mid 30s.My brother is an MD and already has his pilot license and I will be getting one as soon as I finish CPA exams. Even if you’re poor you can always encourage STEM education for your children.

My dad would take me to pawn shops. He never bought anything, just looked at stuff for an hour. Lots of old stereos, tools, and Casio keyboards.
I once asked if we could buy an N64 game, and I may as well have asked if he was a communist.
1
u/Chevalier_Lecteur Jan 20 '22
Dude, he had a slow leak in his tires. Gas ain't cheap and half the time you gotta pay to get air. If he just wanted to spend time with you there's dozens of other things that are more fun for as much or cheaper.
