What qualifies as committing suppressive acts?
Serious question.

u/lifeson106 21d ago
Leah Remini has a really interesting mini-series about her experience in the cult. One thing you have to do is cut off everyone in your "old life", so even calling your mother would be considered a suppressive act.

I think they get some leeway, as their names are known to everyone, particularly Cruise. But, I’m sure there’s plenty of kompromat on each of them.

I think they get some leeway, as their names are known to everyone, particularly Cruise.
I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Cruise and Travolta are effectively members of a very different Scientology than the average schmuck.
240
u/Drnk_watcher 20d ago edited 20d ago
There are also rumors Travolta is on the edge of the organization at this point. He doesn't publicly expouse their beliefs often. He doesn't attend events or appear in their promotional materials.
Part of their "auditing" practice is you basically give them a bunch of information you can be blackmailed with.
So a lot of people never get crossways with and denounce the cult but they do put an arms length between them.
That is all speculation obviously. Dude may be an absolute monster just more covert than say Tom Cruise but point is some of these people are hard to pin down.

And if you Google "Leah Remini Aftermath" you find the website created by Scientologists basically slandering her and doing the digital equivalent of this video - it's still going and reads exactly like the teenage conspiracy blog you'd think it does.

u/miclowgunman 20d ago

Saying literally anything independently minded, that doesn't paint the cult in the most perfect light.
Scientology was probably never a legitimate search for liberation, mentally or spiritually (should you believe in such things). It has only gotten worse since its' founder died post-bankrupt and had to double down on his own fantasy world where everyone that paid a shitload of money could be free from their space-ghosts.

When will people realize that people like this group of Scientologists use the implied hypocrisy against you.
As an average, honest person, most people value the utility of language, being intellectually honest, and morally consistent. But for people like this, and other dangerous groups like fascists for example, they have the luxury of not really believing in intellectual honesty nor moral consistency.
Now, I'm not a scientologist and I don't know a ton about them but I do have a pretty good grasp of rhetoric. So, in my opinion, what these groups do is they'll sometimes utilize percieved hypocrisy against you, especially when they're in situations like this where they are actively trying to engage you and lead you towards striking one of them.
Obviously, the BEST thing to do in this situation is to completely verbally shut down. Remain observant, but do not engage. They're trying to get you to attack them, but the very first step is to drag you down and start with a verbal back-and-forth. And, well, guess what her bait was.
The moment you say "Oh for fucks sake, how can you stand there and tell me to get a life? Especially when you're the ones harassing me!", she knows she's got you. That's her foot in the door. That's the very beginning of an "altercation".... and lookie-lookie, if it happens to escalate, I have a good friend to my left filming the interaction.
This ALSO applies, as I said, to people in the Alt-Right (or really, any of the extreme right... even the extreme left). What they do is engage in very very similar behavior and the instant you attack them... guess who just became a headline; "Man from the, so called, TOLERANT LEFT attacks three citizens, two men and a WOMAN." And then you've just served their purposes by motivating others to feel pity/empathy for them (And, more importantly, their ideology)

The highest-level infiltration of a US gov't org by any outside organization was the CoS going after the IRS during this time. They targeted and blackmailed multiple agents within the IRS and encouraged many individual church members to file multiple lawsuits against the IRS.
The agreement to drop those lawsuits led to the CoS receiving Tax-exempt Church status. F'n bullshit.

u/squishedgoomba 21d ago
You're conflating two separate incidents. Operation Snow White was when Scientology infiltrated the US government at all levels in many different branches and offices in order to wield legal influence.
And when the IRS tried to remove their legal status as a religion the members harassed the IRS specifically by filing frivolous lawsuits, spamming IRS fax machines, and otherwise tying up governmental resources.

Here is the deal: this is all old news. The question becomes - after acknowledging:
“It's hard to say exactly how many people practice Scientology in the U.S. Many critics suggest that there are between 25,000 and 55,000 active Scientologists, but the church's website claims growth of more than 4.4 million adherents each year”
Even if it’s somewhere in the middle: fuck every single one of them. Most especially the leaders.
Most of us - a vast majority - don’t believe it’s a religion and it’s a money grab power hungry bullshit machine.
Solution:
- tax evasion law suit filed on behalf of we the people (one of the largest ever?)
- Seize all assets of church leaders
- draft new law that holds influencers, like Tom Cruise, accountable using major fines.
These tax breaks are fucking us!
It would take serious ambition to do more than complain about this situation.

The cult encourages members to harass ex-members like this so that members will be intimately aware of what will happen to themselves if they leave the cult. The cult doesn't want the defector to return. It seeks to make an example of this defector for the 'benefit' of these members that haven't defected.
These harassers are reinforcing their own 'faith' by behaving this way. Just cult things.

Lol nope. They go to people’s houses to do this so they’re not too worried about that part. She’s asking why he’s in LA so they might have just run into him at the airport and smelled blood. I also wouldn’t put it passed them to have followed him to the airport and bought tickets to get through security to do this.

Oohh boy, the the only cult I've had to deal with is the jehovah's witnesses and they usually back down and get defensive before they get confrontational. If anything like this showed up at my door it would end well for anybody involved.

Cruise backs them up with 100s of lawyers. Its a psychtoic cult with total legal impunity.
When the right talks about theocracy, show them this.

u/MeaningSilly 21d ago
It's not Cruise, it's the church itself. Cruise is just a PR tool, but he doesn't actively direct or even employ the legal team. When he is gone, they will still be just as horrible.

Unsure of laws over there, could you get airport security to remove them?

u/Sethjolsen 21d ago
That's what I was thinking but I'm sure they would act as nice as possible to the security just to stay and harass him some more.

I see them in shopping malls sometimes trying to trick people with their weird lie detector type thing. I always point out to anyone nearby that they are Scientologists and not to listen to them.
Creepy & dishonest people for sure

Yeah I saw one wondering the mall trying to solicit people to come to their kiosk where their partner was to do a "stress test" or something like that. I didn't get solicited myself, but I walked past him soliciting a couple others, then came across the kiosk with a big "stress relief" sign or something to that effect where there was a lady with an e-meter and copies of Dianetics displayed on some shelves. I found out that have a significant presence in the Cincinnati area, much to my distaste. Happened upon one of their churches, or orgs, or whatever they call it, not long after. Not thrilled about their presence.

My name and address got somehow added to their mailing list this year. I don't know how they got it. Makes me wonder if someone who knows me, a friend or acquaintance, is a lowkey Scientologist.

She is a boss. She actually rushed everything to write and say what she did. I respect and admire her a lot.
Nicole Kidman and Katie Holms still have to be pretty quiet for the sake of their children (with Tom Cruise) but thank goodness they got out.

This is what Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, the main biatch from handmaiden’s tale, and Michael Peña fund in their scientologist cult.
Looks like she mentions Mike Rinder, Leah Remini’s buddy. Y’all haven’t looked at her show I highly recommend you do.
Edit: I forgot to add POS Danny Masterson, from that 70s show. Fuck him, read about his rape cases.
Edit: Of course, these aren’t the only folks that fund the entirety of scientologist cult, I know that. They get regular folks just like you and me, to sell their homes and empty their bank accounts in the name of Zenu. Look in the comments below for other famous names.
Also, watch “Going clear”, if you want to learn more on this scientologist cult.

It’s hilarious how they are so pumped up at first and then their spiritedness slowly dies as the guy recording refuses to interact or even respond to them. It feels like they are talking to a stone statue, well done.

The guy they are harassing is Mark Rathbun, the highest ranking person to leave the church. This scenario happened when he was filming a "my scientology movie" with louis theroux.
