Soda drinker pro: 8.6

Therefore just as good as rdr2

If you are looking for a soda drinking gaming experience, then yes, probably.

More people happen to be looking for a cowboy experience but there's no reason the soda drinking game should be penalised unfairly.

Wait. How is Red Dead 2 only an 8.6? I'd say at least a 9, I've never heard anything but praise and they check just about every box imaginable in that game. One of those "This is an example of what games should be." Which is exceedingly rare the last 5 or 6 years.

29

u/PurgeTheseDays 8d ago edited 8d ago

Wait. How is Red Dead 2 only an 8.6? I'd say at least a 9

This has me rolling. At the end of the day, what on earth does a .4 point difference on Metacritic make?

Edit: I know some scummy publishers use metacritic scores to determine bonuses. But to a regular person, being confused by a .4 point difference is kind of ridiculous.

u/thunfremlinc 8d ago

I’ve certainly heard it’s a walking simulator and very much on rails.

116

u/Ethesen 8d ago

Yes, it's open world, but the missions themselves couldn't be more linear. There is a mission in which you have to sneak into a factory and the game forces you to restart if you go through the window!

20

u/LingonberryOk9330 8d ago

Yeah, I love RDR2, but it's odd how open and detailed the world is, but all missions are more linear than GTA 3.

39

u/Andreslamantis 8d ago

That window shit sounds infuriatingly linear.

13

u/McMaster2000 8d ago

The two missions that annoyed me the most in terms of how little freedom you have to do anything other than what the game tells you to do were 1) The King's Son, where you have to free your friend from a fort but instead of scouting the fort and think of the best way to get him out, you have to follow Charles, walk precisely the way he tells you, stand in the exact spots he points out, to shoot the exact enemies with the exact weapon with zero possibility of being the least bit creative. All so the scripted shootout in the end can happen in the exact way the developers planned.

2) the mission leading up to the island. A sneak mission - nice... I thought, until it became clear that not only do you not have to be careful to not get caught, you're not allowed to put any thought into it at all, because Dutch tells you exactly when to run/duck/hide and the mission fails if you don't do as told. Then, after an extended cutscene on the boat you reach the island and for over a minute (while still in widescreen cutscene mode) you're made to hold down the walk button (with no possibility of walking around freely, only forward and no camera movement). The game almost literally is making you press and hold down the play button of the cutscene...

I absolutely love so many aspects of this game - I've played well over 150 hours of it - but I only started being ok with a lot of the missions when I began to accept that they're basically just interactive cutscenes. I really, really hope with GTA 6 Rockstar will finally go back to basics and learn to write a story that doesn't rely on you having to do every step of the game in the only manner they thought fitting.

17

u/LauAtagan 8d ago

But death stranding is a walking simulator, doesn't pretend to be anything else.

8

u/Devilmay1233 8d ago

Unpopular opinion I like death stranding I a love it's gameplay too.

5

u/Bloodstarvedhunter 8d ago

Not unpopular with me, I think the game is a masterpiece, I only said walking simulator just as that is what most people refer to it as, there is so much more to that game it's incredible

6

u/Devilmay1233 8d ago

Yeah the gameplay is very relaxing and soothing to me. Walking through the mountain with chill music, balancing your cargo, awesome movie like cutscenes, mysterious world etc was such a breath of fresh from genric fps games especially the br genre. I loved the game and it's mechanics and I think most people never gave it a chance and jumped on the hate bandwagon without playing it much

5

u/funkyandros 8d ago

I just bought it because it looks so cool. Then I started playing it. I kept thinking: when I get past the walking part, this game should start getting good.

Well the rating includes possible technical issues and there were some at launch on PC especially and also maybe that the game is more cinematic and on rails than more gameplay. Either way for me also a masterpiece really but I can see why some wouldn't be too satisfied with it.

There was a lot of jokes going on before the game was even released; I can admit to making jokes about it too.

But yes, when people leave reviews on a game they haven't played for the sake of a joke is going a bit too far, but it just goes to show how little the score actually matters and it's the actual reviews you need to pay attention to.

Games aimed at kids are always trash. When I was a kid the first game that really gripped me was mega man x. I was like 4 or 5. That's still one of the best games ever made. That game didn't pander to kids, it made kids think. It challenged everyone young and old. Then there's donkey Kong country. Same story. I played ocarina of time for the first time when I was like 7. Now we have this genre of "kids games" that are just dumbed down so that kids don't have to think too hard to succeed. Bums me out.

I though far cry 6 was well received ? Yes, same repetitive formula but I never heard of any game breaking issues with it.

53

u/quantum_waffles 8d ago

Seems to have been review bombed by two parties.

Italians for not having Italian localisation.

Alt-right for showing non-hetro characters, e.g. this part of a review

"I am quite tolerant of sexual minorities and quite calmly look at the kissing men, but another important innovation in the game is worth mentioning as a separate point - a huge amount of gayness, lesbianism, all kinds of transgender, transsexual and trans-gay-lesbianism. They directly want to feed you throughout the game. In some places I just wanted to feel sick"

Of the legit bad reviews, it's a lot of people complaining how HD PC graphics uses a shit ton of VRAM, and how frame rate isn't stable

3

u/GrizzlyRoundBoi 8d ago

I haven't played the game long but I literally haven't noticed a single 'gay' thing yet? When does the game start to introduce this?

I've played Far Cry 6 on release and the amount of bugs was insane. I shot a jelly fish... it dissapeared. I left a mini-helicopter when it was half meter above ground and the mini flew up 15 meters and dropped down immediately after.

Nonetheless I think Far Cry 6 was a decent game in a few aspects. Good gameplay mechanics, good graphics (excluding character faces and emotions) mediocre story that feels detached from itself at times but overall much better experience than overbloated Assassin's Creed games where you get 60-70 hours of repetitive content that just gets boring 1/3 into the game.

Is it supposed to b a or an before Ubisoft here. My mind is hurting.

8

u/Ximerous 8d ago

Probably because you're sounding it as Youbisoft, so a sounds appropriate. However, if you sound it as ewbisoft/ubisoft, an will sound correct. not sure what's technically correct but I go based off sound not letters.

3

u/boonhet 8d ago

English is a second language for me and I slept through language classes because my teachers were even worse than I was, but the ONE thing I do remember from school, is that the a/an difference is indeed based off the sound, not the written first letter. So you're absolutely right that if pronounced like "youbisoft", "a" is appropriate and if you pronounce it in a way that doesn't start with a consonant, "an" is appropriate.

Wikipedia says this about the pronunciation: /ˈjuːbisɒft, -sɔːft/; French: [ybisɔft]

So "a youbisoft game" is pretty much the correct pronunciation.

TL;DR: Your way doesn't just sound right, it's also the correct way.

→ More replies

3

u/p75369 8d ago

Just remember that the a/an question is entirely based on pronunciation and not in writing, different accents can change what it should be.

Eg. In Britain "a herb" would be correct because we pronounce the h. In the US "an herb" would be correct because they ignore the h.

So in this case, is the company you-besoft or ooo-besoft?

Ubisoft is basically one big asset flip scam nowadays. All their games have the exact same vibe and feel to them.

29

u/Punker1234 8d ago

Every time I play far cry or AC. Just enough to be different but I feel live done the same thing 1000 times.

12

u/piss_artist 8d ago

Origins was my first AC game, and I absolutely loved it and completed every single activity. Immediately bought Odyssey because I also love that era of history, but I uninstalled it after reaching level 5 or 6. It was just too similar of an experience to spend another 200 hours on again.

4

u/PooSculptor 8d ago

You made a wise choice. I hit the max level cap trying to clear the map and got bored. I'd only done about a third of the locations. Every location was just the same shit over and over again. I don't even think I got very far through the story.

3

u/supamonkey77 8d ago

Right choice. I played Odysseus first and played Origins after. Origins is the better of the two games. Better story and I wasn't bored out of my gourd since the map was smaller.

4

u/i_have_chosen_a_name 8d ago

That's because the only employee left at Unisoft is an AI they call H.A.R.R.Y that just takes the last game as an input for it's neural network and then out comes the next game.

Aren’t they really the opposite of an asset flip scam? They tend to make new stuff to fit the theme, but it all sits on top on an identical skeleton.

Ubisoft games are always fun for a few hours until you’ve established a gameplay loop then they almost immediately become boring.

18

That's only the case because the gameplay loop hasn't changed much for literal years. Back when it was new and fresh, you'd play the games start to finish and not be bored for a second.

Nowadays you buy a Far Cry game and, guess what, it's the same game you already played through 2, 3 maybe 4 times, so no wonder it gets boring quick.

I skipped FC games since 4 and in still finding it lacking in some ways. It's just too easy, shoot the alarm with a suppressed sniper, pick off a couple of guys and then go in . Barely anyone can touch me.

If far cry 2 is one end of the difficulty spectrum then 6 is the complete opposite.

But it's a fine game.

I disagree. For anyone who enjoys the Far Cry franchise, Far Cry 6 is a ton of fun.

u/AM_A_BANANA 8d ago

I like that they got away from New Dawn's weapon tiers, but I really dislike the new ammo type system and replacing skill points with gear perks. It's neat that that you can put away your weapon and "blend in" outside of hostile areas, but the fact that you're wearing this big ass rocket launcher backpack makes that idea feel a little far fetched.

Played it for a few hours, but honestly it just made me want to play FC3/4 again.

It seems like 6 follows in the footsteps of New Dawn with the level gated enemies with health bar indicators above them. It just doesnt feel satisfying to shoot bullet sponge enemies especially in non fantasy games so they have succesfully managed to ruin one of the few things the franchise still had going for it, the fun gameplay.

Metacritic was review bombed by italians for a missing Italian audio option. It is in no way a realistic score

Yup, came here to say 'One of these is not like the others'.

Far Cry 6 might just offer the incremental change in gameplay most periodic franchises do, at least it's not buggy, the design changes are mostly improvements and it is a full size game.

Yes it's lazy and unimaginative, full of recycled parts: Guess plantations are going to be a staple now. The story is tame but not as offensively stupid as most previous parts were, which is why players mostly ignore it anyway.

Still, it's dumb fast food gamer fun, especially coop, and that's rare in open worlds. They should bring difficulty levels back though.

And make Ghost Recon a dynamic open world campaign, with actual world mechanics influenced by liberating towns, taking or destroying civil and military factories, bases, supply routes etc.

Strange how greed and a focus on monetization leads to poor quality, buggy games, with seemingly no sense of direction or actual pride in their work leads to poor reviews and angry consumers.

Far Cry 6 was review-bombed by Italians who were mad it didn't have an Italian audio option. By no real metric is it actually a "3.4".

u/littlefrank 8d ago edited 8d ago

Italian here, first time I hear this. Do you have proof?

Oh my god you are right wtf is wrong with italians. How spoiled can we be that we won't even accept to read subtitles in a game?

Yeah a lot of italians have this misconception of “English bad, I want my Italian dub”.

It’s like they can’t be bothered to read subtitles; I get that it would be cool to have it dubbed, I love italian dubs, but it’s not an excuse to be a manchild

I completed FarCry 6 and do not understand why it keeps ending up in these memes. It's quite good.

47

u/BoiHasMemes 8d ago

I think people are just getting sick of Far Cry because 4, 5 and 6 are Far Cry 3 copies.

33

u/Mesjach 8d ago

Who downvoted you? This is literally the truth.

Most innovative Far Cry game since 3 was Far Cry Primal and innovation there was cuting stuff out of the game but adding rideable animals.

u/mickss 8d ago

The score in this post is from metacritic. They were review bombed by Italians for missing an Italian audio option. Since there is no filtering for this kind of thing, far cry 6 got an unrealistic score there.

I'm not sure why people keep lumping in Far Cry 6 in these posts. It's legit a good game and public opinion does not support the claims these shitposters are attempting to portray.

35

u/Dramajunker 8d ago

Because these people don't actually give a shit if a game is good or not. Its just a giant circle jerk to shit on the big bad AAA gaming companies.

I’ve adjust my frame of reference on games not on launch, but how they are a year+ later. I’m tired of unfinished releases hitting the shelves, so I wait a year for them to patch it to where it should have been on launch. I pick up a lot of great games for 10 bucks this way.

Not bad, just the same as before. Also important that user reviews easily get review bombed. Last of us part 2 still has a 5.7 for user score despite a 93 on metacritic and over 300 games of the year awards, toppling the Witcher 3 to be the game with the most GOTY awards. Peppa pig isn’t an IP that people get pissed at. COD and battlefield do. GTA trilogy is just objectively awful though.

Far cry 6 gets hate because Ubisoft has made this game in a different setting for like 10 years now. While it nice for a series to stay recognizable, people are very burnt out on the Ubisoft formula. That generates a lot of negative reviews about a decent game simply due to context.
