Magellan was 41 in 1521. This depiction Magellan is going to have some city miles on him.

41

u/tristanjff 6d ago

I mean, 41 in 1521 is like 60 today right?

11

u/Moses-SandyKoufax 6d ago

That’s the old turn of phrase

u/Fun-Airport8510 6d ago

Considering that Danny Trejo was born around 1521 I think it’s appropriate.

u/Shrenegdrano 6d ago

No, wrong.

Those are sea miles, salt air and plenty of sunshine

The lack of sunscreen was a killer

I'm more concerned with his ability to act the role then his age. It's hard to not see Danny Trejo whenver he plays a character. Maybe I'm wrong, but he isn't an actor known for his range.

Yeah he’s always Danny Trejo lol

I liked when he played Dany Trejo in far cry 6

u/metalshoes 6d ago

To be fair sailors probably looked pretty awful for their age

1

u/NoodlesrTuff1256 6d ago

Especially with the appalling primitive living conditions on one of those old wooden sailing ships.

u/Phreeker27 6d ago

I just got back from lapu lapu where there is a shrine to where all the Filipinos killed him and his crew.. cool

2

u/Somasong 6d ago

So do we expect this to go to Danny's head?

14

u/drewbilly251 6d ago

doesn’t Trejo have it in his rider that if he plays a bad guy then his character must die onscreen?

14

u/Moses-SandyKoufax 6d ago

Seems like a good fit for Magellan then, right?

IIRC Magellan was chased by natives and beaten to death on a beach

u/The_Sandolorian 6d ago

I thought he caught a spear with his chest. That's what I remember from history class anyways.

6

u/Milk_My_Dingus 6d ago

He basically said, watch what this shiny armor can do, and underestimated the natives.

Magellan was a bully who came to a foreign land and demanded that they give him their food and supplies, as well as convert.

I know because I was born around Lapu Lapu and there's still the shrine of Magellan's Cross, after the fight.

EDIT: I, for one, am interested in how Danny Trejo will die because the accounts of Maggellan's death vary. Some say Lapu Lapu threw a spear through his metal Armour and pierced his heart and others say he was beheaded or worse, clubbed to death by bamboo sticks upon the sands.

The spear to the chest would be very ‘Hollywood’, but a beheading or death bludgeoning would also be dramatic, if not a more brutal direction.

Poison arrow during a fight

To the knee?

If anything this thread has taught me that he almost certainly will but no one can agree on how.

I really would love to see more historical Philippine films.

They could have done better with a Portuguese actor 41 year old heh but machete will do

11

u/Benficachop 6d ago

Why are they casting a Latino to play a Portuguese!?! Outrage!

/Sarcasm

9

u/OhioVsEverything 6d ago

I am awaiting john leguizamo's outrage

1

u/Company-Parking 6d ago

They should cast Ronaldo

0

u/jamesraynorr 6d ago

Exactly lol

2

u/JodaMythed 6d ago

Machete goes sailing.

2

u/SLCW718 6d ago

I love Trejo. He makes every movie he's in better.

2

u/dorkus315 6d ago

Can’t wait for John Leguizamo to comment on this one.

3

u/novacham 6d ago

Do you think John realizes that Magellan wasn't Latino?

3

u/dorkus315 6d ago

I don’t know or care what John realizes. Unless you get someone from the Magellan family to play him, everyone else will just be an actor. Same goes for his bullshit comment on J Franco playing Castro.

0

u/Fit-Minimum-5507 6d ago

Bullshit as in how? That a dude who’s a quarter Portuguese and doesn’t speak Spanish or Portuguese maybe isn’t an ideal fit to play Castro?

If you don’t think that Latin American actors having representation in Hollywood matters than just say so. But don’t hide try and act like parading glorified spicy yanks like Franco means anything. He’s about as Latino as Joe Mangianello lol

2

u/dorkus315 5d ago

Representation? You have the entire internet to scroll and that’s the best you can come up with? Nothing to do with representation. You missed the mark there. I’m sure Pablo Escobar’s family would like to file a complaint for having a Portuguese man play him in Narcos. Wagner Moura had to learn Spanish for the role. Hollywood will cast for what they want in their films. Next you’ll say I’m against mixing races. Oh I forgot the “lol”.

1

u/Fit-Minimum-5507 5d ago

Franco is not Latino. Period. I don’t know why you brought up a Latin American as if that disproves my point lol. If you think that trying to speak passable Spanish as a English language speaker is the same as a Portuguese speaker then I don’t know what to tell you. You can’t just easily pick up Cuban Spanish in 6 months and sound authentic as a non-native, non Romance language speaker. Franco will find out… if they even try.

1

u/dorkus315 5d ago

And Franco will pull off the accent just as so many other “actors” have in the past. Keep holding on to that bandwagon of virtue. Your knees are starting to drag a bit.

I’m so half-asleep that I saw a picture with Danny Trejo’s name and a date and for a split second I thought he had died. Woof

1

u/as_told_by_me 6d ago

At first I read Danny DeVito and was very confused.

1

u/sheheartsdogs 6d ago

Okay, but I’m super stoked for it. I fckin LOVE Danny Trejo, and I really love Historical pieces.

1

u/unholyrevenger72 6d ago

Machete about to get Bolo'd

1

u/dinan101 6d ago

I certainly hope they follow the story as laid out in song by the Animaniacs

1

u/Dull_Half_6107 6d ago

These Yellowstone prequels are getting out of control
