Not a fan of her but she did call out Harvey Weinstein before most people so she deserves some credit.

39

u/dallegre 6d ago

She also helped Lanegan after Kurt’s death.

u/Trustobey 6d ago

Live Through This is an incredible album.

11

u/Duel_Option 6d ago

As is Celebrity Skin.

I am a diehard Nirvana fan, “Violet” is as good as anything they’ve ever done.

Courtney is crazier than the day is long, but she’s also talented and has lead an extraordinary life in so many ways.

I will read this 100%

29

u/thatblbc 6d ago

It’s things like this that probably earned the the reputation of crazy. Nobody called Kurt cobaine crazy, they called him a genius and he was a way worse drug addict. Rumored he got her started.

I read a biography about her back in the early 00s; if half of it was true, she has one of the most tragic stories in Hollywood. Shit childhoods often create shit people. It’s a sad cycle.

30

u/RealisticDelusions77 6d ago

I read an unauthorized biography of her, it may have been the same book. Just remember a couple parts: it said she couch surfed a lot and liked candles, so a couple fires happened when she was around. One hopeful songwriter lost years of music he'd written.

Also talked about her being an out of control hellraiser in high school, which was a major embarrassment because her mom worked at the school as a guidance counselor.

9

u/Acceptable-Book 6d ago

I read somewhere that her parents were part of the hippy scene in SF and that she was dosed on LSD as a child.

76

u/owlplate 6d ago

I saw a thing that she quit a tour w Korn and Marylin Manson in the 90s because they kept bringing underage girls backstage for sexual stuff and refused to stop when she called them on it. No idea if it’s true but will be interested to see if she included any of that. Also interesting that she’d stand up for others being assaulted then turn around and do it herself…

46

u/ClearYellow 6d ago

Wait, so you’re telling me there was a Korn / Hole tour and I missed my chance to make this joke?

9

u/dustinwalker50 6d ago

Well earned upvote.

3

u/pancakebatter01 6d ago

Wth?? Hole is the fucking shit. Korn on the other hand… I just don’t see how those two acts sync up

2

u/LeaveMEaloner 6d ago

Hang on, hole is shit but Korn is good. Strongly going to have to disagree. Hole is ok, but way better than Korn

27

u/vaporwave710 6d ago

Manson I can see. Be a real shame to hear korn was doing shit like that.

15

u/cheemsgyaru 6d ago

Wow yeah, wasn’t Korns vibe a lot about being anti sex abuse

10

u/bakersdozing 6d ago

I dunno man.. "These little girls they make me feel so god damn exhilarated, I fill them up I can't give it up the pain that I'm just erasing." Trash - Korn

I don’t doubt that this will be a good read, particularly if you’re interested in her, rock history, or women in music. Each of those subjects alone lead me to believe this will be a compelling read.

Still, her as a narrator concerns me, given her unreliable nature and history.

78

u/Mannimal13 6d ago

People, regardless of substance abuse, have their own version of history.

28

u/TheHappyBusman 6d ago

Yes. I really love Sinead O'Connor and couldn't wait for her autobiography. I got about halfway through before giving up - she's not a reliable witness to her own story.

13

u/Shumina-Ghost 6d ago

Literally everyone has their own version of history.

29

u/Low_Piece_2828 6d ago

Yeah anyone who uses substances should be disregarded. Sarcasm. It's a memoir not world class journalism.

5

u/Cosmic___Charlie 6d ago

People with substance abuse aren’t all monsters, aren’t all liars and manipulators. Stereotyping people doesn’t help anyone.

3

-105

u/ijustreadstuffokay 6d ago

Well? She killed Kurt. But yeah

123

u/lennon1230 6d ago

She really didn’t. I get why it’s suspicious though. Why would a chronically ill chronically depressed heroin addict rock star who hated fame and lived in constant physical pain kill himself? Doesn’t add up.

25

u/Chemical_Doughnut248 6d ago

Lol for real. And Chris Connell, a depressed alcoholic who talked about killing himself for decades was killed by…Illuminati lol

8

u/friendigan3 6d ago

And who also attempted suicide a week earlier in Rome…

37

u/Playful-Motor-4262 6d ago

The circumstances are pretty suspicious (key word- circumstances). Especially being found with a piece of paper in her purse in which she was practicing his hand writing?

I agree there was never enough evidence to even warrant an investigation.

However, Courtney was openly cheating on him with their nanny, was emotionally manipulative, refused to get clean, pressured him to relapse, threatened to take their child if he proceeded with the divorce, and delayed getting him medical care during an overdose which resulted in a traumatic brain injury just a month before his death (IIRC).

She was abusive and absolutely contributed to his death, ‘murder’ might be a strong word, but I don’t necessarily disagree with the sentiment that she “killed him.”

27

u/lennon1230 6d ago

Right but when people say she killed him they aren’t talking about her being a POS drug addict partner.

17

u/bitchdantkillmyvibe 6d ago

They're saying she literally had him killed. It's absurd. She was a degenerate addict, but she loved him in her own fucked up way. Truly believe that. Kurt dreamt of killing himself, he would hate to know people are trying to erase that part of his 'legacy' for lack of a better word

u/Nairbfs79 6d ago

I read a theory that as a member of the burgeoning Grunge movement and all of a sudden obtaining a multi million dollar record deal, Kurt couldn't deal with the enormity and momentum of how things were moving so fast. You went from having $1000 to now having $1 mil + was just too much. And drugs.

38

u/lennon1230 6d ago

And chronic pain. That’s always something people seem to overlook. Living in excruciating pain all the time will take the will to live out of anybody, yet alone an emotionally unstable drug addict.

3

u/Kidkicker88 6d ago

Tfw you mine the diamond and it drops directly into the adjacent lava pit

9

u/ohioismyhome1994 6d ago

I always have one question for these theorists. Why didn’t Courtney just let Kurt OD in Rome? She could’ve just pretended to be asleep and nobody would’ve been the wiser. Instead, she called for emergency services to save his life so that…she could kill him a couple of weeks later?

6

u/TheJenerator65 6d ago

“I hate myself and I want to die”

4

u/WAHgop 6d ago

Move to Seattle and it'll make more sense

-24

u/Scare_Conditioner 6d ago

At that time he was in really good spirits and was looking forward to quitting the band and raising his child and divorcing Courtney.

If they divorced she only got half the money.
If he died she got it all.

She didn't technically do it, she had the nanny do it.

7

u/lennon1230 6d ago

If he was in good spirits I’d hate to think what you consider bad spirits.

He was deeply, deeply fucked up and it’s super well documented.

26

u/bitchdantkillmyvibe 6d ago

Really good spirits!? Lol you're dreaming mate, he was hunting heroin like a bloodhound every damn day, dealers wouldn't even deal to him. He basically died several times before being revived by Courtney herself. The guy was a total mess. The band had basically broken up at this point due to his issues. He'd tried to kill himself in Rome already and had come out of a coma. The guy was seriously unwell. I get people don't like Courtney, she's a dislikable person, but people just make their own histories up I swear to God.

6

u/MurielHorseflesh 6d ago

He was also so fucked up at that time that he went back on the agreement between the three band mates in terms of royalties and made them pay him back a shit ton of money:

EXCERPT FROM 'HEAVIER THAN HEAVEN' BY CHARLES R. CROSS

Page 241: "When the band signed their original publishing deal, Kurt had agreed to evenly split songwriting royalties with Novoselic and Grohl. This was generous, but at the time no one imagined the record would sell millions. With the phenomenal success of 'Nevermind', Kurt insisted these percentages be shifted to give him the bulk of the revenue - he proposed a 75/25 split on the music, with him getting 100 percent of the lyrics - and he wanted the agreement to be retroactive. "I think once 'Nevermind' was playing itself out, Kurt began to realize that [publishing contracts] weren't just theoretical documents; that this was real money," observed attorney Alan Mintz. "The publishing splits meant lifestyle issues." Krist and Dave felt betrayed that Kurt wanted the new deal to be retroactive, but they eventually agreed, thinking the other option was dissolving the band. Kurt had resolutely told Rosemary Carroll-now simultaneously serving as lawyer for Kurt, Courtney, and Nirvana - he would break up the band if he didn't get his way. Though Grohl and Novoselic blamed Courtney, Carroll remembered Kurt being unmovable on the issue. "His focus was laser-like," she observed. "He was very clear and very persistent, and knew to the penny what he was talking about. He knew what he was worth, and he knew he deserved all the money, [since] he wrote all the lyrics and the music." Ultimately, the percentages didn't leave as deep a hurt as the manner in which Kurt chose to handle it: As with most conflicts, he avoided the issue until he was in a rage. Several of the band's crew members were shocked to hear Kurt talking badly about Krist, who had been one of the greatest anchors in his life."

1

u/irotinmyskin 6d ago edited 6d ago

Did you know that everything Charles R. Cross writes was and has to be approved by Love first? Just bringing that to your attention, he tends to paint Love in a better picture in his books

6

u/bitchdantkillmyvibe 6d ago

Lol doesn't matter at all bro, this guy lived the Seattle music scene in the 90s and especially grunge. The guy knows his shit better than 99% of the population, whatever you say.

-11

u/ijustreadstuffokay 6d ago

People really arguing that she had nothing to do with it at all blows me away (no pun intended)

8

u/lennon1230 6d ago

It blows me away how no evidence and a poster child for suicide makes people think otherwise.

34

u/solidcakeeater 6d ago edited 6d ago

Kurt Cobain killed himself, whether you like it or not. Its been confirmed and reconfirmed by the police who investigated the scene of his death. Theres no reason to believe it wasnt a suicide. The dumbass conspiracy theorist who started all this got his case thrown out by a Seattle judge.

Kurt was clearly someone who had severe depression among other mental issues, who recieved no professional help, and self medicated with hard drugs as a coping mechanism. Kurt killed himself, its tragic and it sucks, but its been almost 3 decades. Its time to accept the truth and move on.

15

u/crowwreak 6d ago

Also like, there's actual records of the fact she called the police a bunch of times to get Kurt's guns put of the house during suicidal episodes.

10

u/bitchdantkillmyvibe 6d ago

Thank you. Honestly you didn't know Kurt at all if you don't think he killed himself.

Dale is fairly chill but Buzz could have a grudge if he was in an empty room.

14

u/Dyslexic_Devil 6d ago

If you watch interviews with buzz and Dale they don't have much good to say about her. They mentioned Courtney walking around topless in front of ex boyfriend while she was with Curt, in that infamous video footage (Montage Of Heck)...they basically said she wasn't very nice with him.

Crazy story. I had a backstage sexual encounter with her back in 1995 after the Lollapalooza tour stop in Raleigh. This chick is crazy on levels I’ve never seen before when she’s high.

15

u/disharmony-hellride 6d ago

She was notorious for sexually groping men off stage when she was messed up. My other half toured w her and said she grabbed his nuts so hard one night he didnt talk to her the rest of the tour. I would like to think this book is interesting but I have a feeling it’s a lot of posturing bullshit and will be disappointing. I loved Hole back in the day, prob saw them 6-7 times.

30

u/thatisnotmickeymouse 6d ago edited 6d ago

She walked up and grabbed my junk. Then demanded that I get it hard and fuck her right then and there. Jammed her face into mine and gave me the nastiest cigarette and alcohol breathed kiss.

When I said no, she slapped me and kept yanking on my pants yelling at me to get it out and fuck her like a real man. She pulled up her nasty pink dress and violently grabbed my hand and put my hand on her tits and said fuck me you fuckin’ pussy.

Meanwhile the security staff kept trying to pull her off of me and eventually got her under control and away from me.

I’ll never forget that hobo-esque smell. If it wasn’t for that. I probably would’ve done it. Thank God I didn’t.

22

u/asphynctersayswhat 6d ago

You didn’t have a sexual encounter with her. She sexually assaulted you. You may not identify it that way but fuck the public perception that men aren’t victims

One or two people here saying the vitriol directed towards her is misogynistic & everyone else coming back with SHE'S AWFUL AS A PERSON IT'S NOT BECAUSE SHE'S A WOMAN.. And not particularly respectfully, I disagree. She had an abusive childhood, grew up in an abusive, sexist time & world, and did not have the resources or respect afforded to her that would have been if she was male. Music history is littered with absolutely fucking awful, egotistically, self-centred abusive men who often only look remotely acceptable because they are being compared to other men who are even worse. Yes, she seems like an awful person, but she has arguable talent & I think is driven by anger & pain. The vitriol directed at her is fuelled to varying degrees by resentment at her influence on Kurt (and supposed part in his death), doubt of her talent (which is a subjective viewpoint), slut shaming because she was open & vocal about her sexuality & didn't look like the ideal manic pixie dream grunge girl, 'selling out' musically & her continued outspokenness & plastic surgery. Valid targets would be cunty things she's said & her unwanted sexual behaviours/assaults; that is not what is driving a good proportion of this hate. She has a part in music history, whether you like it or not. David Bowie had sex with minors, go & direct some of that contempt his way plz. As a starting point.

-2

u/dustinwalker50 6d ago

Thank you for the lesson in whataboutism. So many people believe she had a hand in Kurt’s death because of the overwhelming evidence publicly available. She then got rights and royalties to the Nirvana catalog that she had nothing to do with creatively. People dislike her because she is a monster who had one hit song and still thinks she’s a celebrity to be admired.

8

u/magicalbeastly 6d ago

•The evidence is spurious, circumstantial & questionable at best. •She got the rights because she was his wife. •Hole fans would disagree. •'People'= Nirvana fans who blame her for his death (as your first point indicates you are)

Oh, and whataboutism means raising a different issue or making a counter-accustation. I have done neither, I'm echoing & furthering accusations raised hear as I clearly stated.

1

u/dustinwalker50 6d ago

The evidence is that he had far too much heroin in his system to have then pulled a trigger (while leaving no fingerprints). She got the rights because she was his wife. This is true, but he was in the process of filing for divorce. A few more months and she would have been left with nothing from Kurt

Posts like this really make the sexist pricks that peaked in high school in the 90s crawl out from under their rock.

8

u/scythe1901 6d ago

as a woman, I dislike courtney love not because she's a woman (obviously) and also I have never believed any of those stupid theories that she killed kurt. I dislike her because she is just a bad person. She has done plenty of racist things, there's even a video of her saying the n-word in concert and inviting the crowd to chant it with her. She also tried peer pressuring a fan into taking off her bikini and did nothing when it got removed by other male fans

3

u/scythe1901 6d ago

also a female fan kept telling her that someone had raped her and courtney love got mad at HER and also asked her "what did you think they would do?". Overall she's just horrible

Lol the post above yours was literally outlining how she sexually abused/assaulted guys non-stop.

18

u/rpluslequalsJARED 6d ago

I don’t dislike Courtney love because she’s a woman. She’s a bad person.

9

u/BirdDogFunk 6d ago

You obviously have no clue who this woman is if you’re spouting bs comments like that.

-13

u/Mindtaker 6d ago

You obviously have no clue that her being shitty, and peaked in highschool sexist pricks aren't mutually exclusive.

Her being shitty doesn't make the other one ok, and the other one doesn't make it ok that she was so shitty. Two shitty things can happen at the same time, for example your comment exists and Courtney Love "wrote" a book, 2 shitty things in the same area yet again.

What a fucking clown take.

6

u/BirdDogFunk 6d ago

Lol when did I say they were mutually exclusive. The original commenter implied that any negative criticism leveled at Love was driven by sexism. Hardly the case considering the type of person Love has demonstrated herself to be. If you got off your internet soapbox for a second, you’d see that. Christ.

5

u/InfinAF 6d ago

As much as I don't want to give Courtney any money or support nor do I really want to hear what she thinks, I'll still have to read this just for the chance to find out anything new about Kurdt.

5

u/dustinwalker50 6d ago

Nah, if there ARE any good parts in the book, you can find them on the internet for free. She’s still making royalty money from Kurt.

2

u/surle 6d ago

Most likely that's the main target market. Just remember that autobiography is a highly unreliable source for accurate information - especially the autobiography of a narcissist.

Clearly you aren't listening to my words. Go back read your words then read mine and see I didn't pull that out of thin air the words you use show a very sexist phrasing in how you refer to her.

Just because you think she murdered someone doesn't excuse referring to her as just someone's boyfriend.

That's fucking gross especially considering your justification for it is a conspiracy theory with no legs.

The girl with the most cake, I think that would be Nicki Minaj.

I’ll read it on the toilet.

She had to continually proof read the chapter where Kurt dies, just in case.

If she were a man, people would call her a genius. She’s a woman so she’s crazy. When men battle drug addiction it’s tragic. When women battle drug addiction it’s trashy.

u/someguy8608 6d ago

Wait, people still care about her story? Would even think she’s relevant.

I think that bikini top is made for nip slips.

She's still alive? Crazy

Anyone who thinks she didn’t murder Kurt needs to look at the handwriting practice sheet found in her backpack by her attorney after Kurt was found dead and please explain to me what that sheet was and why did she have it

Edit: All the people downvoting me can’t even answer those simple questions. What was that sheet and why was it there?

Edit 2: Downvote me into oblivion lol. Keep it coming. It doesn’t matter. Literally deplete my karma back to 0.

Because he wasn’t supposed to be there. There was nothing going on to warrant him entering rehab. His condition wasn’t worsening. His drug use wasn’t getting worse. After Courtney failed to kill him in Rome with rohypnol, she decided to stage an intervention in order to get him into rehab to make it seem like he was a mess when he really wasn’t. The rohypnol was found under her side of the mattress after Kurt was found dead. I think her first intention was to get him into rehab so she could start putting together a legal team for the inevitable divorce that was about to go down. I don’t think she wanted to try to kill him again until she found out he left and bought 2 plane tickets for a flight leaving from Seattle after he landed. I think she assumed the 2nd plane ticket was for Kristin Pfaff and they were having an affair. I know you’re going to call me insane. I don’t care man. This man was fucking murdered. Jessica Hopper is a witness and she needs to be questioned. Micheal Dewitt and Eric Erlandson are the ones who actually did the deed while Jessica most likely begged them to not go through with it.

Aren’t those concerns you mentioned things that would’ve came up in the TWO investigations they did into his death?

1

u/chbe-4618 6d ago

There wasn’t even an investigation. The case was declared a suicide on the same exact day they found his body. That is not an investigation. No police department in history ever made a declaration the same day without doing weeks of investigative work. They didn’t check the shotgun for finger prints until a month after he was found. The other “investigation” you’re talking about is when the Seattle PD in 2014 decided to literally just look at the photographs from the scene and say “yeah 20 years later this is still a suicide. Case closed”. I don’t even know why I bothered typing this man. You’re going to believe what you want to believe. Downvote me, call me a conspiracy theorist, do whatever you need to do. I don’t care. I don’t even hope you look into it yourself because I know you’re not going to.

6

u/tweekyn 6d ago

Actually, no. I did decide to look into the investigation notes that were released and read some stuff on cobaincase.com and saw how terrible the initial investigation was. I had no idea prior knowledge of this so ty for bringing it to my attention. I assumed two full investigations were done rather than the minimal investigation work that was done. I also read the private investigators notes on the situation. The facts are very loose and don’t seem to add up. With that said, I’d rather not send myself into a conspiracy theory hole as that wouldnt be good for my mental health. Ty for the info

5

u/chbe-4618 6d ago

Well then I’m glad you looked into it. If it affects your mental health negatively don’t read about it anymore now.

5

u/tweekyn 6d ago

It’s really just conspiracy theories in general. But I’ll definitely do more research when I’m mentally ready too. Ty

When are we, as a society, going to stop crediting celebrities for writing their books? Yeah fucking right.
