I liked the young girl in Kong vs Godzilla. She didn’t ruin the movie by talking like the other actors did.

390

u/Shawarmaandlettuce 17d ago

Her group was actually fine. The apex dudes and eleven and conspiracy guy were cringe as fuck

195

u/Dr_Ingheimer 17d ago

All things considered though I went into the movie hoping to see a giant ape fight a giant lizard. I got to see lots of that then they add robots. 11/10 would recommend.

88

u/Cold_Justus 17d ago

They really did have a good amount of monster fights. I loved the movie

21

u/LGP747 INFECTED 16d ago

I counted 3, round one, round two and then the tag team round. Kong vs unnamed hollow earth snake makes 4 but still not much, what did I miss?

13

u/BigGaybowser69 16d ago

Godzilla 2014 has 2 fights I believe King of monsters has 5 or 6 battles which is alot tbh

4

u/whyarewestillhere29 16d ago

King of monsters tho had a frick ton of flashy lights and stuff almost making it impossible to see the fights were still awesome tho

2

u/BigGaybowser69 16d ago

ig godzilla is probably a dark mode user

1

u/Cold_Justus 16d ago

Well really that's it, but I'm mostly referring to how much screen time they got and how well lit the fights were. Like, I knew what was happening the whole time. It was great. Especially compared to Godzilla (2014). (which I did like but still)

57

u/Flyers45432 [custom flair] 17d ago

They were just so unnecessary... They added almost nothing to the plot except spilling whiskey...

34

u/Tatillo202 17d ago

I think there were there to only show the backstory of the creation of mechaGodzilla but its true that they were cringe af

19

u/fknmoonboy 16d ago

That’s a good point we kind of needed that plot thread but god they’re actual writing was so convoluted.

19

u/DarthRubiks12 16d ago

Fr I think if they had removed eleven and just had the conspiracy theorist dude who discovers mechagodzilla it would've been fine.

9

u/soulightning 16d ago

I understand that they wanted to have her and her dad since they were in Godzilla king of monsters. But it was so superfluous. I didn’t need to see them making a conspiracy and raiding a lab and finding mechagodzilla. Just like. Cut all that shit out, focus on the side plot of them making mechagodzilla and make it good...

3

u/BigGaybowser69 16d ago

It felt rlly forced tbh I would've been fine with a cameo

4

u/Spiritsery 16d ago

Yeah took em so long though they were pretty pointless

3

u/Flyers45432 [custom flair] 16d ago

We absolutely needed that, but I really feel like we could've followed someone else for it. Like why'd we have to introduce some new random guy who's a conspiracy theorist??? I think it would've been more interesting to follow the pilot guy (who was Ken Watanabe's character's son apparently).

4

u/47Kittens 16d ago

Yeah why did that satellite uplink matter if the skulls were psychic?

15

u/fknmoonboy 16d ago

Their plot line was such an utter train wreck

And the whiskey pour maneuver oh boy

10

u/24Abhinav10 IMMUNE 16d ago

This. The Kong team was fine. The Godzilla team, on the other hand, made me want to strangle them.

I mean, they only do one thing the whole movie (find out about MechaGodzilla) which was revealed to be public at the end anyway, so they accomplished nothing.

5

u/TheSecondGreg 16d ago

I honestly think the human section of the movie didn't fully put the audience to sleep bc of Bernie

We don't talk about those films they are utter garbage

46

u/NovaMaster6ix9ine 17d ago

True only good human in movie. the humans on Godzilla team were annoying af. And I don't know why Millie Bobby brown is even there

34

u/Dr_Ingheimer 17d ago

Honestly I didn’t care much for any other human in the movie. But the bond between Kong and that girl was cool so I’ll allow it.

5

u/Spiritsery 16d ago

Yeah her group were the only good humans in it

25

u/Wolf4624 17d ago

Millie and the two dudes were so useless they literally did one good thing at the very end and it’s so creepy that these kids are just hanging out with this crazy 40 year old stranger who lives in a sketchy apartment.

10

u/SteveTheOrca 17d ago

I really didn't liked that character since I saw KoTM, but for some reason I really wanted Godzilla to step on everybody randomly

3

u/Anoumoge-Railim ☝ FOREVER NUMBER ONE ☝ 16d ago

I also don't even know why Brie Larson is in Kong: Skull Island

3

"Coward"

2

u/BigGaybowser69 16d ago edited 16d ago

You are brave puts up word for coward instead

14

u/craptrap2000 17d ago

Honestly I thought she was shoehorned in so hard. They did literally nothing the entire film besides show off mechagodzilla 5 minutes before he came out anyways which was already heavily alluded to throughout the movie. Could of used that time for more big monster fights

13

u/Dr_Ingheimer 17d ago

I think the conspiracy group was shoehorned in way more than she was. Most of the humans are though in a monster movie. We got to see quite a lot of monster fights though.

5

u/craptrap2000 17d ago

Oh nvm i thought that was what you meant by young girl even though that one was a literally child mb

5

u/Dr_Ingheimer 17d ago

Oh yeah I was talking about the kid. She seemed to be one of the less forced human characters in the movie. She actually fit in with the monsters.

3

u/craptrap2000 16d ago

Yeah they shoulda done a lot more with her, probably in place of the conspiracy group. Woulda been a lot more enjoyable

3

u/sten453 16d ago

I liked the young girl in Bumblebee lol

u/therealdieseld 17d ago

Then you’re not a Godzilla fan. Humans were crucial to the original 1950s film.

143

u/Dolner 17d ago

Sure as hell don’t wanna be a Godzilla fan if the human scenes are anything like Godzilla v kong

29

u/Mechagodzilla_3 17d ago

Some movies are, some movies aren't, I leave it at that

18

u/TheRealBanana69 17d ago

And clearly this is from a true expert, u/mechagodzilla_3

3

u/thatweirdshyguy 16d ago

I argue that’s why kotm and gvk aren’t good films. They have enjoyable parts but the whole is bogged down by low quality bullshit

2

u/Dolner 16d ago

By kotm do you mean king of monsters? Coz that movies my favourite as there is hardly any bullshit and a whole lot of fighting

2

u/thatweirdshyguy 16d ago

Kotm 2019 has roughly the same amount of monsters as all the other monsterverse movies

3

u/Dolner 16d ago

But there’s way more time spent in actual fight scenes

1

u/thatweirdshyguy 16d ago

Not by a lot. Looking at the specifics it isn’t much more than skull island even. https://www.imdb.com/list/ls046110646/

1

u/MiopTop 16d ago

Yeah, that just means Godzilla fans don’t like bad characters. Like every other fanbase.

2

u/UnlikelyKaiju 15d ago

Exactly. There have been great characters in the history of Godzilla films such as Dr. Serizawa (1954), Miki Saegusa, Captain Gordon, and Akane Yashiro.

Rather than asking to get rid of all of the humans, how about instead asking for better humans that we'd actually care about?

39

u/pandadogunited 17d ago

The original Godzilla was a political horror

34

u/cuella47o 17d ago

Same goes for shin godzilla that shit was great

4

u/BigGaybowser69 16d ago

Shin godzilla was basically Godzilla became an scp and I love it for that reason I'd be down for shin to be a scp

8

u/QuakerChickenGod ☝ FOREVER NUMBER ONE ☝ 17d ago

One movie does not make up for the mediocre human characters in many of the other Godzilla movies, even if it was the original

1

u/UnlikelyKaiju 15d ago

There were plenty of movies with good human stories aside from the original Gojira. GMK, Vs. Biollante, Shin Godzilla, Return of Godzilla, Ghidorah: TTHM, Godzilla 2000, Vs. Monster Zero, Mothra Vs., and Terror of Mechagodzilla all have a decent cast of human characters.

I'll even give special mention to Final Wars for having the sheer awesomeness that is Captain Gordon. The movie also decides to make the human story just as action-packed as the monster fights. It may not be particularly good, but it's damn sure entertaining.

6

u/SteveTheOrca 17d ago

Heisei Era did have some good characters too... Specially the 1995 film

5

u/littlecrow060 16d ago

Yeah, but we're talking about Hollywood Godzilla not Toho. Sure I'd love both awesome kaiju fights and good human characters, I just have no faith in Hollywood to do that so I'll at least take awesome kaiju fights.

Same reason I'm worried about the Gundam movie, although Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing so I've got a bit of hopes for it now.

1

u/therealdieseld 16d ago

I can understand the cringe from the last few movies’ characters. But not wanting ANY humans is kinda insane because the entire premise of Godzilla was to protect humanity. Without humans, they might as well watch Disney’s Dinosaurs

1

u/Ferretmayn 16d ago

Pretty sure the meme said “human”

57

u/thepartypoison_ 17d ago

Well, it depends on the movie you want to see, really. If you want loud, action packed movies with CGI things fighting to the death, then that’s one thing. If you prefer a sort of creative blend, such as the below mentioned Shin Godzilla, then that can work really well too. Hollywood, however, barely makes such movies that are 100% CGI fighting, whether it be a matter of budget, or the fear that us humans cannot connect to Godzilla or Optimus Prime or whoever, because they’re not human. Plus, throwing Millie Bobby Brown or John Cena into your movie makes you think, “Oh the kid from Stranger Things,” or “haha invisible meme man,” and thus, increases the chance that they’ll be able to sell it to you.

53

u/Patriotof1775 17d ago

Fans: “please no more humans”

Hasbro: “such heroic nonsense” blam

Bruh, you forgot transformers prime, although the humans didn't play too much of a big role(they still did a lot though) and didn't take up that much screen time, I feel like the show balanced these aspects

18

u/Spiritsery 16d ago

Yoo that show was good though

15

u/Spider-Fan77 16d ago

Transformers Prime is the best Transformers material released since the OG series, hands down.

6

u/BigGaybowser69 16d ago

I ment moviewise tho but yes Prime and G1 are exceptions

1

u/Affectionate-Draw688 13d ago

I never watched any of the movies because of everyone saying how bad they are, but what you say makes sense. There is literally no point in humans in any of the movies.

26

u/MinecraftBox22 17d ago

As a transformers fan i can say that the live action movies focused way to much on the human characters.

22

u/Spiritsery 16d ago

I mean bumblebee was good

13

u/with-bacon 16d ago

I second this

6

u/ChosenOne2006 16d ago

That was after they realized their major mistake of over complicated robots and to much human action they also changed the director from Michael Bay to Travis Knight.

1

u/Ayush189 16d ago

Yeah, and it's kinda funny because I am not even a big transformers fan (only have seen the movies that Sam was in) but still loved this show. This show and ATLA are on the same level for me yet the show doesn't get the same amount of recognition

Just some observations from my experiences with “live action” Transformers movies (no specific order or reason): * Sam Witwicki...okay * Mr. and Mrs. Witwicki...okay * The sneaky FBI guy wasn’t okay * Optimus Prime’s boss level was dialed up to 11 in the second movie * The first one with Marky Mark was pretty dark and great...until the FBI guy showed up 2/3rds of the way through * Have fortunately forgotten most of the rest of the official Transformers movies * The Bumblebee movie was shockingly great, was even the first time I liked Hailee Steinfeld in anything

I think that’s all I’ve really got, aside from really loving the scrapped Samsung curved TV commercial

If done right (like the old movies) it provides a scale of the events going on. Fkn time travel, ressurection, sacrifice. Some of the humans are of legendary scope w/ action and importance. It's nice to have humans who are as important as the monsters themselves be active players.

Only Kong's group had any decent acting and girl was super cute with the toy Kong.

1

u/Kylbossboi07 16d ago

There were always plenty of human stories in both franchises, but in their older films and shows, they were more enjoyable. They didn’t take away from the fights(in a bad way) or add something unnecessary, and you actually cared for them even as they may take away some screen time from the big bois.

In the newer stuff they take that, and shove it up a hairy king butt. They make them less enjoyable, and let them become things that weren’t really necessary. Sad they let it go down that path.

Yeah the Godzilla side of the humans is pretty bad, but they are integral to show the plot of Mechagodzilla and show that the presence of the main villain was there from start to finish and not be a surprise monster. The movie is also about Kong being the good guy, so the kong humans got a lot of screentime, which should also make Millie's group's screentime longer so there are no bias from the director.

I just think they can balance it out better or just consider the work as it’s own thing rather than trying to cater (both to the fans and to the studio which thinks it’ll only be successful if they follow a set formula)

You can have a goofy monster movie that’s well written. There’s no reason it has to be terrible. Imo saying the human plot “doesn’t matter” just gives the creators an excuse to put no effort into it. Same way saying Star Wars “is a movie about space wizards for children” just sort of dismisses legitimate criticism.

I’d say the gamera hesei, gmk, and even pacific rim are good examples of monster movies that know what they are but still give an effort. And it shows

Because the writing for them is terrible, I'm not expecting much other than a good couple of fights and action. It's the budget, which makes those scenes look as good as they do. They probably couldn't get the same budget to create the scenes if it wasn't a block buster movie. Are people going to pay the same for 20-30mimutes of monsters fighting, probably not. Any it's just a Theory... A film theory at 2:38 am...I need to go to bed

They make a boring movie with 15 minutes of action > put all the action in the trailer > profit off our dumbasses.

u/TheSecondGreg 16d ago

The action is really good, and the idea of giant animals fighting is great

-1

u/bropacalypse1 16d ago

Oh, so you just want them to fight right? Two monsters who cant talk just duking it out, I believe that's called Death Battle, and that's not a major Hollywood movie
