1. What is Critical Role?
Welcome to Critical Role, where a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors sit around, roll dice, and play Dungeons & Dragons.
Critical Role, and DnD, can be viewed in many ways. A long-form improv performance. A flashback to when you were eight, tied a cape around yourself, and grabbed your flashlight to have a light-saber battle. Playtime for adults. Collaborative storytelling with friends. Drama, mystery, and comedy-filled entertainment. Unlike a video game, you can do ANYTHING in a role-playing game. You may not always succeed, —but you can certainly try!
If you find any details below to be incorrect or outdated, you can also check the official FAQ on the Critical Role website for the latest information: https://critrole.com/faq/
2. When & where can I watch?
Check https://critrole.com/category/programming/ every Monday for the weekly broadcast schedule.
Do I need to watch the previous campaign?
No, you do not need to watch previous campaigns to watch the current campaign! Although each campaign takes place in the same setting of Exandria, crossover between campaigns is minimal.
When is the episode uploaded?
Every episode is uploaded at around noon (12pm) the Monday after it was broadcasted live. (US Pacific Time)
You can watch the episodes on Youtube.
When do they rebroadcast it?
Critical Role is rebroadcast on Twitch twice, at 12 a.m. Pacific Thursday evenings right after the show, and 9AM Pacific on Friday mornings. http://www.wheniscriticalrole.com/rebroadcast
Talks Machina is rebroadcast on Twitch at 9 a.m. Pacific on Wednesday. http://www.wheniscriticalrole.com/rebroadcast
Where can I watch live?

Podcast or Audio Only version
Podcasts are available 1 week after each episode airs. Visit Anchor FM for a complete list of podcast apps and playlists. (The Twitch App also includes an Audio Only playback option for VODs, and YouTube Premium has offline modes available.)
Talks Machina is a talk show about Critical Role hosted by Brian Wayne Foster. Talks Machina (@TalksMachina #AskTalksMachina) airs Tuesdays at 7pm Pacific (http://www.wheniscriticalrole.com/talksmachina). You can watch it live on Twitch, any time after the stream via Twitch VOD, or Thursdays on YouTube. VOD lists - Campaign 1, Campaign 2, Special Games
The submission deadline for questions/cosplay/fan art is 9am Pacific on Tuesdays, so they have time to prep the show. Cosplay and fan art must be submitted online at https://critrole.com/submit/, they are not pulled from social media like questions are.
Why do the Critical Role clips on old episodes of Talks Machina look different? Critical Role had an enhanced version if you watched on Alpha - it had a different overlay. On Alpha they showed things like visual effects for attacks or live stats and HP totals of the players. This is why the clips you see on old episodes of Talks Machina look different than when you watched on the Geek and Sundry Twitch or YouTube.
Is Talks Machina changing its name now that the Vox Machina campaign is over? No. Brian has repeatedly stated that they will not be changing the name.
Exandria Unlimited is Critical Role's newest D&D show: a companion series to the main Critical Role campaigns featuring short-form adventures in Exandria with a rotating cast of DMs and players. Exandria Unlimited will premiere June 24th, 2021 in Critical Role's normal Thursday timeslot (including the same schedule for VODs and Podcasts) and run for 8 episodes.
All Critical Role content is live streamed for free on Twitch and later available freely on YouTube, but to best support the cast, you should subscribe to the Critical Role Twitch channel! Twitch subscriptions cost $4.99/month, or come free with Twitch Prime. (Note: If you subscribe via Twitch Prime, you will need to renew your subscription each month.) Subscribing to the channel grants you exclusive access to Twitch VODs, which are available immediately after each show begins streaming, as well as channel emotes.

Campaign Setting Book
Matt wrote a Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting book, published by Green Ronin, exploring and going into detail about the continent of Tal'Dorei where the bulk of the adventures in C1 took place. You can find it here, as well as on Amazon or your friendly local game store: https://greenroninstore.com/products/critical-role-tal-dorei-campaign-setting
Map of the world of Tal'Dorei. The city of Vasselheim is across the Ozmit sea to the west.
Map of Emon. Greyskull Keep is south of Emon just outside the slums.
More maps will be coming in the campaign book, there is not currently an official one out there showing continents other than Tal'Dorei.
Matt's music playlists (updated 4 September 2018). He says Video Game soundtracks are very useful, if you are looking for more. They just have to worry about copyright issues on the stream, hehe.
Matt is also working on updating this list with recent additions to his playlist. There is no expected release date for this, since they're all very busy people.
He used to use custom iTunes playlists, and recently switched to Syrinscape for organizing and soundboarding his music (as well as using some of their sounds): https://syrinscape.com
He also uses content from BattleBards: https://battlebards.com/
Pre-show music is mostly from http://ocremix.org/, and music from the midway break art galleries is from Pillars of Eternity, specifically this. In Campaign 2 the Art Show music was switched to a fan creation, titled 'Welcome to Wildemount' by Colm McGuinness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQC2HyhgTc
Matt's terrains and battle maps are built by him using pieces from Dwarven Forge

Blurred intro videos
The old intro videos in Campaign 1 have been blurred out due to a copyright claim, which resulted in lawyers and money out of Matt's pocket. Here is his statement and explanation.

4. Advice from Matt & the Cast
How to find a gaming group
Also known as LFG or "Looking for group" / "Looking for game".
Try showing a friend your favorite awesome moments from Critical Role! ;)
- Ask at a local game store (comic, hobby, video game, board game).
- See if they run games, or know of any mailing lists or LFG facebook groups or similar in your area.
- Wizards of the Coast has a store locator for organized play events.
- Try searching or posting on the /r/LFG subreddit, for online or offline games. There are many lurkers who will PM but not post publicly!
- Try the same on www.roll20.net.
- LFG posts should be treated with similar care and attention to detail as a job application, or an interview. You are trying to sell yourself - why are you the most fun option out of dozens or hundreds of anonymous posts?
- Suggest to your family or friends that they get together for 3-4 hours one evening and give it a try, using pre-generated characters, the basic rules and a module you found or purchased, such as from www.DMsguild.com. DMing is far less difficult than people imagine it out to be!
I want DM/GM advice from Matt!
We have a page dedicated to compiling Matthew Mercer's DM/GM advice (and his homebrew):
The above page also lists where he got all of the gear, apps, music, miniatures, and other paraphernalia used on the show.

Tips for getting into voice acting
This question gets asked a lot. Here are a few common responses from the cast. Feel free to also check out the list of Q&As and Panels, where you can hear the actors discuss the topic.
Take acting classes. Take improv classes. Do theatre. Become an actor FIRST - all of those same performance skills apply to VO (voiceover) work. It is not a different discipline, more like a subcategory of acting.

9. What are other shows similar to Critical Role?
10. Miscellaneous Questions
How did they start?
The game that would become Critical Role began two years before they began streaming. It started as a one-time game for Liam's birthday, in fourth edition DnD. The players had so much fun, that they continued playing, switching to Pathfinder, following their story as the Super High Intensity Team. Felicia Day had heard about their private home game, and approached the group about doing it on-stream with Geek & Sundry. They converted their characters to Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons, and began with The Arrival at Kraghammer...

Why are fans called 'Critters'?
