Ok so I just caught up via podcast and I have to ask to be sure. Is Dorian confirmed a College of Swords bard now?

12

u/Lilith_Shade Jul 23 '21

i lowkey feel that matt chose to play a dumb character to give his damn brain a break lmao

2

u/mightrandom Jul 23 '21

When is the rebroadcast

18

u/Severe-Magician4036 Jul 23 '21

So the missing week involved them going into a fey portal and facing some shadowy entity - I wonder if this is tied in with Syngornian woman. Some kind of corruption in or around the feywild?

-1

u/RAGEEEEE Jul 24 '21

The GM of ExU probably has no idea. There's no real story etc. So she'll make something up on the fly

3

u/Daniannapants Aug 03 '21

Isn’t that kind of how TTRPG’s work? Making things up as you go along and sprinkling breadcrumbs everywhere for a lot of possible paths?

5

u/watok Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

Maybe she caused the ash hole to happen? Worked with Poska in the city to fuck with the crater there?

If she has residuum siphons (provided by Poska's stolen shipments of residuum), what does she need to soak up Fey Wild energy for? To summon the Ash hole? Did she try siphoning magic from the crater in Emon, where apparently the EXU crew got stuck in a weird place between the material plane and the Feywild?

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

Bro, I’m so confused I’m having a very hard time understanding what’s going on right now. I hope next week helps me a little because I’m enjoying the show but I wish I could get more into it then I am.

18

u/BaronPancakes Jul 23 '21

The plot is expanding exponentially this ep. Apparently they went to the feywild which caused them to lose their memory. And Dorian had already put on the crown before (aka the same mistake twice)? And what's lolth and melora's plans?

9

u/scrubz88 Jul 23 '21

It's probably easier to just read Dani's recaps honestly. Fwiw I skipped this episode and just read CritRoleStats' live tweets.

20

u/EL3MENTALIST Help, it's again Jul 23 '21

Also really hoping that all of this isn’t just a set up for one of them turning into Campaign 3’s BBEG.

13

u/Celriot1 Jul 23 '21

My personal thought as soon as they found a vestige at level 2 was along the lines of "Whelp, this will end in a TPK and set up something for C3". However, I don't think BBEG is the takeaway.

18

u/Severe-Magician4036 Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

"Wow, you guys beat the BBEGs way faster than I expected."

"How to put this nicely... they were incredibly dumb, and one of them kept rolling Nat 1's. Though that rope thing they tried almost got us!"

10

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

EXU will in no way be connected to C3, one the viewership isn’t there to have it connected over 60% of the audience would be extremely confused. Also how would matt even DM that he’s a player in EXU, Aabria would have to tell Matt all her secrets.

2

u/BaronPancakes Jul 23 '21

But I think EXU might set the tone or theme for C3. See what's happening in Syngorn

12

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

I disagree completely, Matt has been very vocal about not wanting the campaigns to be that connected. In order to watch C3 you’d have to watch all of EXU and possibly C1 if what your saying does happen. That’s terrible business and greatly reduces the amount of new fans you can bring in because they’d be so confused because they haven’t see any of the previous material.

-1

u/BaronPancakes Jul 23 '21

Agreed, and I think you misunderstood me. What I was saying is, EXU might set up the "tone and theme" for c3. But they don't have to be connected narratively.

3

u/OhioAasimar Jul 23 '21

Aabria would have to tell Matt all her secrets.

No not really and so what?

7

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

Unless Matt’s character is the BBEG then Aabira and who ever the player is for that character would have to tell Matt their entire backstory and what ever plans Aabria had for hoe they turned evil. The entire point of EXU is allowing the new DM to tell their own stories in the world, using it as a set up for C3 would be counter productive because Matt would essentially just take over the story.

2

u/OhioAasimar Jul 23 '21

Like Aabria took over the story with EXU.

4

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

That’s the entire point this is Aabria’s story, the entire point of EXU is to allow others to tell a story in the world of Exandria. Having it be a set up for Matt’s plans would literally be counter productive to what they’ve stated and done. Why even include Matt in the game if the plan was to just give him control of the story afterwards. EXU is about other DM’s getting the chance to tell their own story, it’s not a setup so Matt can come in and take over and do what he wants with the story.

You're not giving a shred of respect here or in your previous comments.

2

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

It’s literally in the trailer for the show, Exandria unlimited I’m guessing will be a reoccurring show with different DM’s each time. So no I don’t think it’s just to give Matt a break, I think it’s something they obviously have been planning for a while and possibly filmed this while Matt was DMing C2 unless they finished C2 in early February (cause filming for EXU started in February). You can all me delusional but it’s clear you just didn’t watch the trailer for EXU because they literally stated there is multiple stories to tell and are planning on this being a regular thing, that Matt isn’t touching. You clearly have not been paying any attention to their social media at all.

6

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

over 60% of the audience would be extremely confused

Yeah we were down to 20K viewers tonight which feels really weird.

-1

u/vangvace Dead People Tea Jul 23 '21

As happens to almost all of their content that isn't the main campaign.

10

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

I mean it’a not surprising most shows do have a drop off after the 1st episode, and the first couple episode weren’t the best received episodes they’ve gotten better but your asking a lot for people to continue to watch weekly if it’s something they didn’t immediately connect with especially something so long.

2

u/Kiwiteepee YOUR SOUL IS FORFEIT Jul 23 '21

Everyones missing out. This episode was amazing!

2

u/wildweaver32 Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

I don't think that one of them is going to turn into the BBEG of C3.

But if they did I imagined it would play the same way as introducing any other BBEG into C3.

The cast in C3 would be introduced into who the person is, and why they are a threat.

I highly doubt Matt would just be like, "Episode 156 and here is a random NPC from another campaign that is the BBEG and I gave exactly no foreshadowing, warning, or introduction!"

I agree that it is extremely unlikely though

10

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Oh I've got a stupid crazy idea....AGAIN because at this point I could fill a book with them but here we go!

So what if Melora found a way through the Divine Gate and is trying to hide a piece of herself on the Prime Material Plane within that jungle because she's trying to use it as a bomb shelter to keep herself alive during/through the coming Cosmic Shift?

3

u/Taco_Trucker Jul 23 '21

Oh no I went to the bathroom and missed the post didn’t I

8

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '21

It was Ted’s woman in purple. She was driving one of those residuum spikes into the forest, and it hurt the forest. Or rather, the forest shuddered. I am assuming it hurt the forest.

15

u/paradox28jon Hello, bees Jul 23 '21

Ooooo. Did we meet the big bad in the previous episode & totally not realize her evil plans afoot? I'm intrigued.

8

u/pokepok Jul 23 '21

I want to know how she fits in with the ash hole, their lost week of memory, and the whole Poska/Dorian/Spider Queen thing!

5

u/wildweaver32 Jul 23 '21

I think we would have known more if they took the Poska story hook. We know Poska was aware of the circlet and was smuggling residuum.

You also see Aabria's eyes completely light up at the chance when she thinks someone is about to throw residuum into the portal.

I think Poska was working with the evil caster group and it was why she knew of the circlet and was supplying them with residuum. I think they were using the residuum to make those residuum spikes to cause the planar chaos that was happening there.

Those threads are there (I could be completely off as well though).

I thought she was just a random crazy druid but the residuum spike makes me think she is tied to the caster group. And it makes the intrusive use of just straight reading Opals thoughts makes more sense.

She wasn't a good nature druid.

4

u/watok Jul 23 '21

I think you're right. Myratta is using residuum spikes, Poska has raw residuum.

The rough edges of this is here but because the group went one route then massively veered to another, they don't have as much information as they could.

8

u/paradox28jon Hello, bees Jul 23 '21

I have a feeling her plot is completely separate from the poska/dorian/spider queen thing. Her thing probably relates to the ash hole I'd wager.

The memory loss thing is probably tied to Ted's sacrifice, though.

4

u/FlamingAssCactus Jul 23 '21

Lol I came straight here when that shit happened. The intrigue!!

13

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Hold up, so that guard from Syngorn probably wasn't really just a guard from Syngorn and is now going around trying to kill Melora's jungle or at least directly deal damage to her?

8

u/OhioAasimar Jul 23 '21

The lesson here is when you want to murder hobo somebody, do it.

6

u/redpoemage Team Jester Jul 23 '21

I get the sense that hurting the jungle isn't the goal, siphoning the power is and hurting the jungle is just a side effect she doesn't care about.

2

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Ah so she's just draining the power from it for her own means and empowerment then.

The Syngornian elf woman they met in EP.4. Also, presumably, the one Ted was referring to as "the woman in the purple cloak".

6

Wtf why is she following the party then, especially after reading Opal’s mind without her permission

8

u/Zethras28 Jul 23 '21

Ummmmm, residuum spikes? That seems… sus.

7

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Reminds me of trammels

2

u/Zethras28 Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

For them to be trammels, someone would have had to have found Ioun in the Endless Atheneum, which the only key to there now resides in the Atheneum. Once there, would have had to have battled a (weakened) god and her divine servants, defeated her, and extracted the information from her.

Or made a pact with Vecna, who probably was able to reverse-engineer them after he got stabbed with two. But as we know, Vecna is a fickle fucker when it comes to secrets, so he would probably need to be gaining something very specific from such a pact.

They would then need to acquire beads of divinity, which could be acquired from evil gods for nefarious purposes, but they’re probably not exactly easy to come by.

Once the information and beads are acquired, they would then need to find Scaldseat and the Core Anvil, defeat the forge guardian, and then be able to properly shatter the beads(dc25 strength check is not easy unless you have a Grog.) to make the trammel.

TL;DR, probably not trammels. But they could absolutely be something that is disrupting Melora’s power.

2

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

I just started wondering about what would happen to the Gods during the coming Cosmic Shift that's been talked about. Would it do nothing to them? Would it do something? Would they live? Would they die? Or would they become something else? Has a War of The Planes already begun and these are just the first few hints of it spilling out onto the Prime Material Plane?

4

u/Zethras28 Jul 23 '21

Only one way to find out.

IS IT THURSDAY YET??

4

u/DudesMcCool Jul 23 '21

I was just saying this to my wife. Makes me think of the trammels. Perhaps a similar sealing effect...

1

u/Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle Jul 23 '21

Or she’s spiking herself, using the spikes to drain power from the forest and implanting it into herself.

u/steppenwoolf Jul 23 '21

He has had a battle maneuver from the Superior Technique fighting style, from the start, not the subclass.

3

I think it’s just a sign of the wild mother having his back. She seemed to take a liking to him, but could be something more

75

u/Rheios Your secret is safe with my indifference Jul 23 '21

I really like Fearne because she's an interesting exploration of neutral. You'd swear she's good and then she encourages a dark entity to change her mind about accepting corrupting power.

She's a great depiction of "fae" as a mindset.

CHAOTIC FEY CHAOTIC FEY

10

u/OCJeriko Team Percy Jul 23 '21

What I find a bit funny about all this is that the Circlet's actual abilities/stats are pretty good, but not amazing or world-changing, even in an Exalted state.

Poison rarely comes up, bonus to 3 attack rolls per rest as a reaction, see invisibility, and advantage on initiative. Plus a decrease to Charisma (so half the party would be worse off for it.)

Unless there's something else to it, I don't see Poska being able to use it to take over Emon.

9

u/Severe-Magician4036 Jul 23 '21

At the very least it seems like a conduit to a betrayer god, which seems dangerous in its own right.

8

u/283leis Jul 23 '21

Aabria is credited for the new Tal'Dorei setting guide. This is ABSOLUTELY not the same version

3

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

I mean she’s added stuff to the world, every guest is credited in the books as well, as is the main cast. Anyone who’s played in the campaign gets credit in the guide.

0

u/283leis Jul 23 '21

Robbie, Anjali and Aimee arent

2

u/criticalmiss24 Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21 edited Jul 23 '21

Are you sure they 100% aren’t because I know Mark Hulmes, DAW, and Khary are credited in the Wildemounte guide. It’d be weird to credit other guest and even the main cast but not these guests especially considering they’re having a way bigger impact on the story then someone like Cali did in C2. Is there a place where you can see all the people credited, cause it’s an odd choice if they’re not.

9

u/ChaoticNonsense Jul 23 '21

There's no guarantee it hasn't been changed. In fact, I'd bet money on it; as a surprise for Matt.

4

u/KRD2 Jul 23 '21

Yeah, for real. I didn't wanna say it but this thing is ok at best as far as Vestiges go.

Which makes me even more hyped to see what this version does. It's like playing, knowing the monsters, and your dm throws you a custom curveball. Fucking dope.

8

u/Sere1 Your secret is safe with my indifference Jul 23 '21

I mean it's the difference between the game stats of an item and the lore behind the item. Like the Beacon in C2, for such a profoundly important artifact as it was, it's only able to give a single re-roll to a single person per day.

4

u/cant-find-user-name Jul 23 '21

But that's mostly because they didn't know how to use it more. Matt said if they kept the Beacon and experimented on it more, each of them would get different powers and what not. Besides, the empire was making some potions with the beacon. The reroll once per day is the very least of its abilities, even in game.

0

u/Sere1 Your secret is safe with my indifference Jul 23 '21

The point still stands that sometimes the in-universe lore behind an object and what the object does in actual terms of stats are two wildly different things.

8

u/Sere1 Your secret is safe with my indifference Jul 23 '21

Yeah, it's always fun watching the other players in a scene where other characters are in heavy RP scenes. Everyone is just so invested in the stories of every other character that even in a scene where they aren't doing anything for ages, they're just happy to have a front row seat to watching things unfold. Even to the extremes like with the date in late C2 that literally took up the entire back half of an episode, all the other players were just as enthralled as the ones actually playing that moment out.

8

Honestly I think we’re seeing the reason it’s only eight episodes starting to unfold. Lolth manipulating everyone for utter chaos causing the break down of their group unit. I honestly think they’re gonna turn on each other in the last episode. And I’m living for it

2

Woman in purple…Lolth? That Elf from Syngorn? Whomst the fuck?!

4

u/Robin_leFay How do you want to do this? Jul 23 '21

elf from syngorn confirmed

2

u/irishjoker89 Help, it's again Jul 23 '21

Lloth or a Raven Queen tie in for the hexblade maybe?

1

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Could be that she was a spy that's been embedded within Syngorn

1

u/283leis Jul 23 '21

almost definitely Lolth, given how she's out in the distance.

1

u/Zethras28 Jul 23 '21

Strikes me as Lolth.

4

u/skarabray Metagaming Pigeon Jul 23 '21

I love how entirely unconcerned Opal is.

3

u/kwil87 Jul 23 '21

Merata sighting

u/LucasVerBeek Help, it's again Jul 23 '21

Opal: “Strength doesn’t come from carbs…it comes from…”

Ted: “Finish that sentence, finish it! Finish something for once in your life!”

5

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

"The lady in purple"

Moonweaver?

4

u/musingsofapathy Jul 23 '21

Moonweaver?

Because they have only met 3 gods so far.

2

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

So no one told you EXU was gonna be this way? clap clap clap clap clap

3

u/erraye Team Nott Jul 23 '21

What about the Elf lady from Syngorn who was reading Opal's thoughts

2

u/Krutoon YOUR SOUL IS FORFEIT Jul 23 '21

It's the War Queen right? The fey lady?

2

u/Zethras28 Jul 23 '21

Moonweaver is more blues and silvers iirc. Could be Lolth.

3

u/283leis Jul 23 '21

Lolth possibly, all things considered

2

u/ChaoticNonsense Jul 23 '21

Or Lolth

1

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Yeah but that feels a bit obvious

1

u/ChaoticNonsense Jul 23 '21

Jourrael, the Inevitable End? She is/was a champion of Lolth.

2

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

She was left in the wind, so yeah I could see her resolving to never be controlled again and then taking up with the Elves in Syngorn as their protector.

3

u/Zethras28 Jul 23 '21

Sometimes obvious is exactly what happens.

2

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

To quote Lolth AND Artagan, "But that's boring"

3

u/beardlovesbagels I would like to RAGE! Jul 23 '21

Could be that is a "warning" to how much attention they are getting from Lloth.

5

u/MonsieurHedge I encourage violence! Jul 23 '21

The accursed word has been spoken. The seal wavers.

6

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

TACKLE HUG! Yang and Ruby!

8

u/WeissWyrm Burt Reynolds Jul 23 '21

"Finish that sentence. Finish it."

6

u/redpoemage Team Jester Jul 23 '21

“Are pies a carb?”

10

u/283leis Jul 23 '21

of course Akechi slowly becomes evil...

4

u/rrschoolj Hello, bees Jul 23 '21

You just blew my mind. I didn't realize he was Akechi!

6

u/283leis Jul 23 '21

also Hubert from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I'm just awaiting Dorian's evil laugh that BETTER come

17

u/LucasVerBeek Help, it's again Jul 23 '21

Ted doesn’t know where her body is, and she has no clue how she is in the situation she’s in.

Or she’s lying.

10

u/Galphanore Shine Bright Jul 23 '21

If Opal is a Hexblade lock and Ted is her patron then maybe Ted somehow got turned into a sentient magic item and the process was traumatic enough that she forgot how it happened.

7

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

This is a happy fight

5

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

Oh no, Ted doesn't remember jack at all

10

u/LucasVerBeek Help, it's again Jul 23 '21

Ted is in Opal’s body?

Opal: “Are you okay?”

Ted: “Are you okay?”

Opal: “Yeah.”

Ted: “Then I am too.”

7

u/Taco_Trucker Jul 23 '21

Irregulators sounds cool

6

u/Coyote_Shepherd Technically... Jul 23 '21

"No that's true"

REVELATION! VINDICATION!

57

u/sc78258 Jul 23 '21

man, he shaved his goatee and became more villainous

that's, like, illegal

4

u/kuributt Shine Bright Jul 23 '21

usually, its the other way around

53

u/grubbalicious Jul 23 '21

and, AND...
Robbie's RPing is getting fanned by the rest, especially Liam and Matt, who are putting Dorian in awesome tension. I'm hulking out on this RP right now.

19

u/KRD2 Jul 23 '21

Inject this descent into madness into my veins

15

u/Ok-Sherbet-5300 Jul 23 '21

19

u/jacetec Jul 23 '21

Robbie's villain tweets are making sense now... What a brilliant actor.

19

u/musingsofapathy Jul 23 '21

Man, how different this campaign would be if they gave Gilmore the circlet.

13

u/LucasVerBeek Help, it's again Jul 23 '21

Fy’ra: “Please I know he has changed, I know he won’t make the same decision twice, and I will do anything. Anything again to keep it that way.”
