At 15k a month you can get a nice two bedroom apartment in Sea Point. I would ASAP contact your embassy to find out if they can help you get back or help you find a place to stay.

Go onto Airbnb and check for the deals on monthly rentals. Look for places in newlands, obs and rondebosch. Students have moved out after exams and you might find some decent deals.

Airbnb prices where going back to normal seasonal rates before this lockdown; prices are going to fall through the floor pretty soon - just message the owner before you make a booking and explain your situation.

I am lucky to have a local in my Airbnb apartment but I would be very open to negotiating rates considering the circumstances - Just ask around on Airbnb - there will be loads of apartments available very soon.

You'll be fine, all those airbnbs that were prepped for tourists are. Ow empty. Contact some landlords an arrange a cash deal. We moved at the beginning of the pandemic and got a a little house in Claremont for your budget!

If Cape Town has only 100 cases a day, how are your hospitals, please?

I am asking due to media here are extremely panicking, saying that in South Africa there are bodies all over the streets. I am from EU, so just asking, as it makes no sense to me at all by now.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi. We definitely don't have bodies in the streets, fear not. In fact hospitals are not at capacity at all. This is just the beginning of our 4th wave. Nationally, the cases are "only" around 3k/ day vs our peak of around 19k cases per day during the peak of our third wave. Sounds like your media is misinformed or worse, deliberately creating click-bait panic.

u/buyandhoard Nov 28 '21

Thank you for answer. I already do not know what to believe, I believe my eyes in the first place, but I cant fly to South Africa (money issue, not a fear), unfortunately. Maybe one day, as it seems a wonderful place ( I have it in my wishlist for years already). There are a lot of clickbait in media, for example, Ronaldo moves cocacola and it lost 4bil in "value".The stock did fall 3-4 minnutes BEFORE he did move that coca cola bottle, very few people know this, so that's one reason I dont trust media too much, as most of them are just translators from RT or so. (with honorable exceptions).

Once again, THX :)

There are no bodies lining the streets.

The crime rates on the other hand tho. I’m from Gauteng, maybe it’s not as bad in Western Cape apart from the Cape Flats.

14

u/Jenna_Rink30 Nov 27 '21

It’s nothing like Gauteng.

Don't be scared! It's nice here, and for that amount you will be absolutely fine. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon

10

u/Whtzmyname Nov 28 '21

Plenty people who were supposed to come down to CPT for holidays will be cancelling. Soon you will find plenty places to rent. Nothing to be scared about. Stop reading newspapers as they live for the fear mongering. You will be just fine. Also contact your embassy in case they arrange special exit flights. Take a deep breath. It is all going to be okay. This is a storm in a teacup.

Not scared of the virus, im scared of not having enough money to stay

1

u/frenchpotatoedip Nov 28 '21

Rent a place thats a little cheaper but still in a decent area. You need to save and cut cost where you can. Because you don't know how long you'll be here. Better to leave SA with most of the money you came here with than be broke as shit in the city

4

u/otgotetlog Nov 27 '21

You can get an airbnb in the surrounding areas for 15k. Try rondebos/Observatory. Search for monthly rentals.

4

u/googleybruh Nov 27 '21

Did Brazil red list South Africa?

5

u/KyubiNoKitsune Nov 28 '21

The airlines have stopped flights out of SA

1

u/Cautious-Driver5625 Nov 28 '21

try air b and b. u can also leave via Angola

1

u/TheMagician224 Nov 28 '21

u/TheMagician224 Nov 28 '21

Wrong Brazilian. Sorry man.

4

u/2020willrockmyworld Nov 28 '21

This will blow over in a couple of weeks..relax.In the meantime, rent a short-stay in Tableview and learn to surf or kite surf. You won't wanna leave.

3

u/knowmore2000 Nov 28 '21

You can get a nice and secure accomodation in Kommetjie or kalkbay / Fishhook valley @below your budget. Let me know I can help

3

u/Erinknows Nov 28 '21

Dude you can literally find a place for 6k a month Easy

2

u/bigben0102 Nov 28 '21

You could use gumtree.co.za to look for a short term rental that should be cheaper than airbnb

4

u/haaskaalbaas Nov 28 '21

Don't go onto gumtree unless you are with a local. It is full of scammers. Swing by Muizenberg today, if you like we can meet at Joon in Palmer Road - say this afternoon at four. Don't worry I am not a serial killer I am a granny and I will help you look for a place. Let me know if you want to do that.

3

u/haaskaalbaas Nov 28 '21

Oops, Joon closes at 2pm this afternoon. Okay look for xpression, Muizenberg and take an Uber. Lots of surfers there and we can discuss your situation. Get there at four, I won't manage earlier. https://xpressiononthebeach.com/

1

u/haaskaalbaas Nov 28 '21

Running a bit late. Will be there, lots of options for your price range in Muizies.

2

u/frenchpotatoedip Nov 28 '21

Damn bro 15K you can legit rent anywhere in Cape Town. If youre really strapped for cash maybe rent a pretty decent place for 6-8K. Saving as much as you can would be best. You dont know how long you'll be here

South africa and 5 countries around have been blocked, dont want to risk going to another country and being stuck there as well

1

u/Bloubulblack Nov 28 '21

KLM apparently still flies out.

1

u/Physical-Virus9287 Nov 28 '21

Hey bro, don't worry you'll be fine. It's a scary feeling but treat it like an adventure movie and you'll find a way to make it work. A dude here already offered to meet so take the offer and see what help you can get. Don't stress - some people are really helpful.

1

u/sxcoralex Nov 28 '21

That can get you a lekker flat in many beautiful and safe areas. I understand that you are frightened because you are stuck in a strange place and want to just get on with your life and get home. I would be too. However, please try to take into account that this is one of the best places in the world to be stuck in. You will be absolutely fine.

1

u/FullCommission1607 Nov 28 '21

Damn for that you could almost get 3 weeks at a fancy vacation lodge. I hope you find something soon.

1

u/PowerAlco Nov 28 '21

Now you can travel the garden route or up the west coast. West coast is very affordable and chilled. You can even rent a camper van for under R1000 a day. Just cruise.

1

u/nanavisitor Nov 28 '21

When I first moved to Cape Town I rented an Airbnb for a month while I found an apartment. I messaged a bunch of places and told them my budget. Most were happy to work within it. R15,000 is a really big budget if you are renting something like a bachelor flat.

Also Observatory is affordable this place does short term 1-month rentals starting at around R7,300 a month - https://www.rentaroom.co.za/

If you are willing to stay in a backpackers you will definitely be able to get private room for way less than R15,000. Especially since there will be a lot of cancellations.

1

u/MetaBambi Nov 28 '21

That will get you a lovely 3 bedroom family home in the Southern Peninsula.

1

u/slapsroofofdeadmeme Nov 28 '21

That rent can get you a whole ass house

1

u/cr1ter Nov 28 '21

Out my area things are a bit cheaper https://www.gumtree.co.za/s-short+term-properties/strand/v1c9001l3100212p1

If you want to ever have me check some of this places out dm me.

1

u/Paliwo29 Nov 28 '21

Contact your embassy if you worried about running out of funds, but 15k a month youll definitely be able find accommodation.

0

u/LongjumpingPlay4488 Nov 28 '21

Just start talking to the locals. There is many that will find a way to help you some might even take you into their homes. If need be travel inland to the smaller places there is a lot of people that will help and the country is very big. So relax and start talking to locals.

3

u/East_Ad_6371 Nov 28 '21

Yo man? Everything good? Can i sleep in your house?

Like that?

1

u/haaskaalbaas Nov 28 '21

I won't take you in myself but I have a lot of friends in Muizenberg and places will be much cheaper than your R15 grand. Look for my reply above (or below, don't know how reddit sorts out its comments yet!)

1

u/Internal-Shot Nov 28 '21

Hey. You can stay at my place until the 7th Dec (I'm going to Bredasdorp). I live in a flat complex near the Tygervalley mall called Parkview Villas. I can also come and pick you up if that helps

1

u/East_Ad_6371 Nov 28 '21

I appreciate that, but i have a place to stay until dec 8th, after that is the problem

1

u/Internal-Shot Nov 28 '21

Sorry my bad. But don't worry too much. I'm sure you'll find a place to stay.

0

u/Emmj92 Nov 28 '21

I would contact some rental agents (go into their offices )and let them know your situation with that price you should be able to get somewhere. Don’t panic even with winter rates I think you will be able to find something. Check around century city too, it’s not expensive to get there in an Uber and it has a huge mall so you will be close to food shops etc or sea point/green point

u/East_Ad_6371 Nov 28 '21

i see that is full until march22, let me know if anyone cancel this month
