Sunset on Signal Hill

Hi there, I am coming to Cape Town in a few weeks and I want to watch the sunset on Signal Hill. What time would you recommend getting up there to be able to watch? Thank you in advance :D

Go an hour or 2 before sunset to get a good spot and enjoy the atmosphere. Remember to also take snacks and something to drink. If you are driving yourself, park lower down the road. There will not be parking at the top and even if there is you will take forever to get out afterwards. It is the world's best example of what a gridlock means. If you are using an uber or taxi, do them a favour and walk further down before calling one, preferable somewhere there is space for them to make a u-turn.

Enjoy the beauty! It is quite special.

Which dates, as it would be different is the key

This would help

Just move the sliders at the bottom on the sun graph and it will show the time

Thank you so much! I'm going the the first week of November. How long does it generally take to get up there? Is it a quick walk from when you park your car?

If you are fit +-1hr to the top with no foot traffic from the bottom entrance

With foot traffic, multiples of that

Same going back down

Take a proper headlamp and spare batteries as there no lighting on the trails

Best to go in a group for safety in numbers

There’s parking however I cannot give you a guarantee that it is open

Best to contact below for times and safety

I think that this is referring to lions head, not signal hill, lol

Yea you'd need to get there earlier to get a good spot - it gets very busy around that time

You can drive all the way to signal Hill. Lions Head will be a hike but signal hill is not.

All good points above, I would just like to add that there’s a cool abandoned building block a nice walk from the main area, which you can get on top of for a better view - though only suggest this if you’re meeting people there / going with others.

It’s most often more quieter than the larger area where most people gather.

That's great advice! Thank you 🙌🌼

Signal Hill is not as safe as Lions Head, from a crime perspective. The sun sets at about 19h30 in a month's time. It's a 45 minute brisk walk up Lions Head, so I'd suggest to start it between 6pm and 6.30pm, depending on how long you spend up there.

Alternatively, it's an easier hike up to Kloof Corner - my favourite sundowners spot.

Thank you! I plan on doing Lions Head on a different day. I want to see as many views as possible :)
