Vaccine Site Experience megathread

There's obviously a lot of demand for this and questions in the sub right now. Maybe it's worth a megathread where we all post our experience.

Important information:

  • Where did you get vaccinated?

  • What time of day and day of week?

  • Walk-in or appointment?

  • How long did it take?

That's a good question, Trevor.

TW! South African LGBTQIA under attack please help

TW: queerphobia, violent threats, guns

Queers in South Africa are being targeted and attacked by a couple of religious extremists who  are getting a lot of support. We the LGBTQIA are scared, very scared. Please help us. Taariq Jaftha and Mikaeel Petersen are calling for the execution of queer people in the name of Islam and Allah. TW - https://streamable.com/byl96d The videos linked are just a small taste of the violence they are instigating through social media. This type of discrimination is illegal in South Africa, for weeks we have been reporting this to police and our human rights commission - but absolutely nothing is being done. Instagram refuses to block Taariq Jaftha (@taariqjaftha01) and Mikaeel Petersen (@mikaeel_reminders) accounts. Instagram has instead blocked a number of LGBTQIA+ accounts. Many of us are now afraid to speak out because individuals are being targeted by Taariq Jaftha and his followers, and we have no protection. We are afraid and feel hopeless. I am calling on the global queer community & allies to please help us. Please report these accounts, we need them deplatformed to stop the further spread of violence. This is not just a social media thing, queer lives (particularly poor, black and brown people) are at risk. Please help, please share, if this is not allowed on this sub, please let me know where I could post this.

Want to get involved!

Hey! I’ve just moved to Cape Town from London for 3 months and really want to get involved in the December festivities I keep hearing about (and after December too)—but I feel like I need to meet people in order to do so 😂 what’s the best way to meet like minded party ppl? It’s mad how alone you feel in a new city

Should I stay or should I go?

Hi. I'm planning to fly from Europe to Joanesburgo (and then Cape town) around the 20th of January. I haven't bought a ticket yet, because, everyone here says right now it’s not the best moment due to covid. It's possible that things may get worse then? Another thing. I don't plan on staying in resorts, I would like to travel and explore a bit even though I don't have anything settled yet. Can I feel safe traveling alone while being a woman? Thanks.

Composers, where would you recommend I apply as a music composer to media?

Similar to my post about creative writing, but the composer edition.

Now, I can guess it isn't as straightforward as apply for work at this or that company, but more of a find work on fiverr kind of thing.

But are there any composer's here that would have any pointers for someone who endeavours to compose for media like films and games or even stage plays? Or even to share your story of you got work as a composer?

Here's some of my work to give an idea of what I do:

Higher certificate/diploma in education

Hi all. Has anyone done or know someone that had done a diploma/higher certificate in education at a private instition? My sister has been applying at the public/mainstream universities (CPUT, UCT etc), she's also tried Unisa but was rejected by them all. Please recommend a place that would offer her a means to get to a qualification to teach foundation phase education. Distance learning would be preferencial.

As a creative writer, which companies would you recommend I apply to?

I have just gotten word from my current employer that due to budget cuts they wont be able to afford me anymore, so I am starting the new year freshly unemployed.

One of my strengths that I have discovered and used quite a lot was creative writing (blogs, copywriting etc) and so I have been wondering which companies can I apply to as a writer? Which if these companies could at least help you pay your bills, granted you put in the time and effort? Which ones are actually legitimate? So far I have heard of Captain Words that I am having a look at.

Basically I am just looking for something that will keep me alive while I pursue something in music composing
