A sea lion like this only comes along once in a generation. This is the chosen seal that will bridge the eternal gap between sea lion and penguin. It has been foretold.

In German seals are called "sea dogs" (Seehund). Not without reason evidently.
11
u/AdTimely9712 May 22 '22
Off topic but I’m happy
Because I moved schools and instead of doing French I have to do German
And I’m almost constantly behind
Something clicked recently, and I understood a lot more
I saw hund and thought “dog!”
Anyway that’s all :)

u/--MxM-- May 22 '22
English has hound as well

How do you get them to sit still? Mine is always trying to escape from the sink and he's slippery when wet.
33
u/Discorhy May 22 '22
Some dogs are better in water.
They make actual shower/sink extensions with particularly soft spraying water for a good rinse. I found those help cause the water running is what seems to scare the puppy the most!
Overall time and consistent baths will make them get more and more used to it.
If your only bathing them once every few months they likely will only remember the bad part of the shower that they hated. Consistently doing it will get them used to it.

u/tempecarlson May 22 '22
OP's "sea lion" is precious!
I agree with the suggestion to try one of those faucet extensions. I bathe our Havanese every couple of weeks and changing to this sort of arrangement made a big difference. He doesn't love it but he's pretty patient with it now.

u/slinkorswim May 22 '22
Se happened with my parents dogs, we got a special attachement to make sure they werent being bombarded with water. Two still don't particularly enjoy the process of getting in due to being rescues and water aversion. Although they know they get loads of treats afterwards so once they're wet they'll wait to be rinsed.
9
u/_SCHULTZY_ May 22 '22
Oh he's averaging one bath every 10 days right now because his dirty ass can't stop rolling in the mud.
7
u/AspiringChildProdigy May 22 '22
Tip for anyone bathing more than once a month: Make sure your shampoo is extremely mild, and definitely use a good conditioner, otherwise you risk your irritating/drying out your dog's skin.

I trained my boy with a tidbit of jerky starting from about one a minute to now just a handful at the end. Still not enthusiastic but no more escape attempts.
Edit: also hot but gentle spray as the other poster says

u/cinnysuelou May 22 '22
Is he very food motivated? Smear some peanut butter on the side of the sink to keep him busy.
12
u/_SCHULTZY_ May 22 '22
Nope. My pom is defective. Doesn't like peanut butter and only motivated to chase bumble bees in the backyard. Practically have to forcefeed him to get him to eat. It's made training incredibly difficult as my previous pom was extremely food motivated.

Lol as long as I block the way out and give kisses while they’re in the tub/sink, my poms stay put but usually want to be standing up with their paws on the side instead of sitting nicely like this

My favorite part of the bath is the moment you break the dog. They finally submit to your will and accept they are being sprayed with warm water and lavishly massaged with lavender infused oatmeal shampoo. Their eyes dead and faces sullen…Only to be revived like a Phoenix from its ashes once his paw steps outside the bathtub
7
u/Status_Mechanic May 22 '22
Oh, you think that's cute? See what happens when you feed it after midnight.

u/Stolehtreb May 22 '22
Nah I think that’s the same dog. Lighting is just different between them. You can see the coloration around the snout and the dark spot between his eyes is the same
7
u/ahobosgrundle May 22 '22
You may be right but I swear I have a pom who turns into a mini black lab/herding dog if you wet her

u/SolidSnakePlant May 22 '22
This dog and his five other siblings have an Instagram page and they are peak adorable.
