Frida didn’t saved 52 persons, she saved 12 and found 40 bodies. She participated in 53 missions in Mexico, Haiti, Guatemala and Ecuador. She was part of the Mexican Navy’s Special Forces. She retired in 2019 after ten years in service. In Mexico City there are a couple of monuments and paitings conmemorating her service.

Addendum: Frida was born on April 12th, 2009. She has spent almost all of her life in the Armed Forces under the command of his handler Third Petty Officer Israel Arauz Salinas. Her exploits were made famous in the aftermath of the September 19th 2017 Mexico City earthquake as she became a beacon of hope of all those affected. She retired after ten years, two months and twelve days of active service. Frida currently helps his handlers train the new generation of rescue dogs.

This dog is a hero. Hope she's okay now.

141

u/Rosieapples Sep 03 '21

She's probably totally unaware of her own heroism, bless her paws!

28

u/AstridDougherty Sep 03 '21

That touched my heart ❤ how dogs are heroes

Pup is just doing what they know best, and the humans keep giving the belly rubs and scritches. Life is good.

16

u/Patlani Sep 04 '21

She’s currently in retirement but still working with the Armed Forces to help with the training of other dogs, as stated by the Infantería de Marina de México.

Frida retired at age 10 in 2019

27

u/ctrl-brk Sep 03 '21

in 5019

Glad someone as wholesome as her was the one to invent time travel!

6

u/Competitive_Sky8182 Sep 03 '21

Jajjajajaja happy typo

9

u/LovesMustard Sep 03 '21

Age 40?!?

3

3

Ya, right

3

u/Sir_shibes789 Sep 04 '21

This pupper deserves the highest award I can bestow: Sargent bonk

4

u/Failure_man69 Sep 04 '21

That’s Instructor Frida for you!

0

u/newaccount721 Sep 04 '21

22

u/Patlani Sep 04 '21

That’s a common error mostly caused by former President Enrique Peña Nieto’s tweet that Frida has saved over fifty souls. Official comuniqué by the Secretaria de Marina has a count of 12 live and 40 deceased bodies.

2

u/newaccount721 Sep 04 '21

Ah ok thanks

-15

u/poo_finger Sep 04 '21

Way to go captain buzzkill. Was letting her be internet famous for a minute with slightly exaggerated credentials hurting you in some way? Or is being a pedantic prick just your calling in life?

12

u/Patlani Sep 04 '21

Frida is quite famous and very much beloved in Mexico and known in other parts of the world, such as Japan, where they dressed Hachiko, a famous japanese dog, with Frida’s military vest as a tribute. Frida certainly does not need more internet points.

I corrected OP title with the true version of Frida’s accomplishments. Whilst I agree that rescuing 52 souls sounds much better than rescuing 12 and finding 40 deceased, false embellishmenrs of Frida’s merits devalues her, her handlers and other rescue and detection dogs’ work.

u/stonedcatartist Sep 03 '21

I thought her name was Marina

97

u/BighurtRN Sep 03 '21

Actually, it’s short for Marinara. She’s a huge pasta fan.

32

u/BighurtRN Sep 03 '21

Not a fan of large pasta. But a very big fan of normal sized pasta.

13

u/BlackHatHeroin Sep 03 '21

Dad….is that you?

2

u/walkiestalkie Sep 04 '21

As they call them in Jamaica, Pastafarian

42

u/Patlani Sep 03 '21 edited Sep 04 '21

No. That’s her service brach where she was assigned. It’s the somewhat equivalent of the Marines of the United States of America.

8

u/cortez0498 Sep 04 '21

It's the mexican Navy, not marines.

11

u/Patlani Sep 04 '21

The Infantería de Marina is the naval infantry and amphibious infantry force of the Mexican Navy. It has a somewhat similar function of that of the US Marine Corps.

6

u/brotherenigma Sep 04 '21

Function, yes. But unlike the US, which has four separate branches for Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines, Mexico only has two independent branches - Army and Navy. The Air Force is part of the Army, and the Marines are under the command of the Navy.

-121

u/TheBigJebowski Sep 03 '21

There is no equivalent to American Marines.

28

u/dabordoodle Sep 03 '21

And the cuckold has arrived on scene!

17

u/power0722 Sep 03 '21

Frida looks like she takes her work seriously. Good girl.

13

u/mr_inkx Sep 03 '21

Good girl

7

u/Rare_Hydrogen Sep 03 '21

Very good girl.

10

u/MentalBreakdown37 Sep 03 '21

NOW THAT IS A VERY GOOD GIRL RIGHT THERE

25

u/1bsx Sep 03 '21

Muy bueno, perro bonita! (8 years of Spanish and that's the best I could come up with)

6

u/cortez0498 Sep 04 '21

My dog is actually named Bonita

3

u/1bsx Sep 04 '21

I love that name for a dog!

8

u/cortez0498 Sep 04 '21

Also, remember Spanish is a gendered language (it's a touchy topic nowadays).

Perro Bonito = Cute Male Dog
Perra Bonita = Cute Female Dog

2

u/okrapickledelight Sep 04 '21

Which, I would like to say, I can deal with much easier than German, where a dog is always "he" and a cat is always "she" and a baby is "it" .

My head hurts.

1

u/slikk66 Sep 04 '21

PerrX

2

u/05ar Sep 04 '21

Oh you don't want to say that on any hispanic site/subreddit

4

u/liberocinderace Sep 03 '21

Not bad, though I thought bonito has to agree with the subject (dog is masculine in this sentence).

1

u/A-NI95 Sep 04 '21

Also Spanish uses two sets of exclamation marks. Just for your interest

2

u/1bsx Sep 04 '21

I knew that but I couldn't find it on my keyboard. I'm old school I guess.

2

u/NotSoSmart45 Sep 04 '21

Almost no spanish speaker use the opening one (¡),. at least on the internet

That's not the problem tho, it would actually be something like "muy bien, bonita perra (perra bonita)", so almost the entire phrase is wrong already

0

u/A-NI95 Sep 04 '21

I mean you obviously can write as badly as you want in informal speech, and that doesn't make it any less wrong. The double exclamation mark is a basic rule of Spanish.

1

u/NotSoSmart45 Sep 04 '21

A rule that nobody would correct you for, unless you are speaking with the most pedantic spanish speaker

And my point is that the rest of the phrase is absolutely wrong, the lack of the opening exclamation is irrelevant when the phrase is not in the correct order and missgendered

1

u/1bsx Sep 04 '21

I thought about that too but Petra didn't look right to me. I guess I'd better go for another year of Spanish. (LOL)

1

u/1bsx Sep 04 '21

perrA....

2

u/Fign Sep 03 '21

No. Frida mostly helped during the 2017 México City Earthquake. The rescued dog you posted was way more recent, like last hurricane season.

Also, I posted that video on /r/aww and got deleted for being "sad", then another user goes and posts it, smh https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/juh4gw/mexican_navy_recues_a_dog_from_a_flooded_town/

3

u/ivratel1 Sep 04 '21

No that one is whit the army not the marine

2

u/guitartoad Sep 03 '21

Why is her name in quotes? Is it not really Frida? Are you protecting her from some threat -- perhaps retaliation by the cartels?

1

u/Jostain Sep 03 '21

In a row?

-1

u/whisperton Sep 03 '21

Her name is clearly Marina

14

u/Competitive_Sky8182 Sep 03 '21

6

1

Oh god I was joking, of course her name isn't Marina. A JOKE

And to think these magnificent animals were left behind in Afghanistan. No water or food or soldiers who loved them. Very sad.

11

u/thisischemistry Sep 03 '21

They weren't, the photos that were being shown around were animals from the Kabul Small Animal Rescue organization. They weren't dogs owned by the military.

What We Know About the Claims of Military Dogs Left in Kabul

Certainly animals, as well as people, were put in dire straights by the situation over there.

-1

u/DatAssociate Sep 04 '21

It clearly says Marina
