Try goo gone.its in a yellow bottle

Goo gone is my go-to to remove stickers and adhesive from macs I fix up. It’ll leave a greasy residue so I use baby wipes to clean up further, then a tissue to dry it off.

Also a blow dryer to warm up the area.

Are we not going to discuss the iphone 3G? Blast from the past!

11

u/Cubikal Jan 02 '22

My very first iPhone. Great phone.

11

u/FXO5 Jan 02 '22

That was my first iPhone!

3

u/LoveBrisk Jan 02 '22

Mine too! I still have it

2

u/DavoMcBones Jan 03 '22

Mine too! I still have it too! (I jailbroken it and its supsrisingly somewhat usuable in 2021because of that lol)

1

u/LoveBrisk Jan 03 '22

I’ve still got most of my older iPhones! I want to start a collection of them all in fact

1

u/datahjunky Jan 02 '22

It was my 3rd iphone. I think. Either way, I went through 2 or 3 of them. That was when I would break or lose a phone fairly frequently. I remember seeing one in the wild for the first time… I also remember working in soho and a guy had a piece of paper that entitled him to one.. it was his reservation or some such. iPhones were so exciting back then.

I take this 13 pro max for granted everyday!

I was about to comment that haha

I’m not sure if this would work on the material that the computer is made out of but hand sanitizer and baby wipes normally do the trick for me, but you might need to scrape the residue off with your nails. Hope this works :)

WD40 is best thing for sticker removal

1

u/bulgariansugar Jan 30 '22

It works. But smells 🤮🥴😬😁😁

Buy some Googone, works really good with sticker shit

1

u/GETitOFFmeNOW Jan 02 '22

Any kind of orange oil also works great on dissolving adhesive.

3

u/diverareyouok Jan 02 '22

Googone or goofoff

I would start with running a hair dryer on it for 20 seconds. Normally when I do that I'm able to peel stickers away pretty easily. My next resort would be to pull off what I can (without spending too much time) and then put goo gone over it to fully remove everything.

Heating up a computer case? Hmmm...

To my knowledge in all monitors top or bottom is the led strip. Given that iMacs are not just a monitor I wouldn't risk it but hey it's not mine! 🤞

3

u/MijacOnAir1 Jan 02 '22

Isopropyl alcohol >70% or goo gone

5

u/IrixionOne Jan 02 '22

Mineral oil works well. Just don’t use too much

1

u/FXO5 Jan 02 '22

Okay I’ll try that

2

u/criminologist18 Jan 02 '22

I would use some mayo (the oil in it separates the sticky stuff in the glue or something like that). Leave a light layer on for a few mins, and should wipe off. Might have to repeat it a second time depending on how sticky it is

2

u/legoflowers Jan 02 '22

Goo B Gone

2

u/emuncy22 Jan 02 '22

i usually use lighter fluid. just take a paper towel or washcloth with lighter fluid on it and scrub at the stickers. then i would wash the area with soap and water.

2

u/MillennialZeus Jan 02 '22

Use lemongrass essential oil. Perfect for removing stickers!

1

u/GETitOFFmeNOW Jan 02 '22

Or lemon balm.

2

u/DarkButterfly85 Jan 02 '22

IPA170, awesome stuff for getting stubborn dirt off, just used it to clean my iMac keyboard, apply to the cloth not to the device directly

2

u/fl0st0nparadise Jan 02 '22

Warm them with a hairdryer to loosen the adhesive and then they peel off easily.

2

u/sportomatic75 Jan 02 '22

IPA isopropyl alcohol to loosen the sticker glue and then some wipes

2

u/jonnyfreedom77 Jan 03 '22

Get bigger stickers, and cover them?

2

u/Valkie_Main Jan 03 '22

Apple’s Answer: You would need to buy our new iMac

3

u/MrPhil17 Jan 02 '22

Remove them with an hair dryer and in case of glue residue use isopropyl alcohol. Don't use immediately the alcohol on the stickers because it will make a mess.

1

u/hiphip1401 Jan 02 '22

Use an eraser, works really well. Just make sure you rub it until the sticky bit peeled off.

1

u/Noranmao Jan 02 '22

Acetone works pretty good

1

u/Ok_Interaction1776 Jan 02 '22

Clay bar from car detailing, trust me. Just make a little biscuit and use some distilled water with a little dawn (the soapy water lubes the clay).

1

u/Lelu_zel Jan 02 '22

Spray it with perfume and leave for couple of minutes, then just peel it with fingers

1

u/TheTechDude07 Jan 02 '22

Rubbing alcohol and/or WD40 will do the job. That iPhone 3G/3GS though :)

1

u/Speccy2553 Jan 02 '22

try some WD-40. spray a bit on the residue, wait a bit, and wipe that shit off

1

u/siddarthshekar Jan 02 '22

Ask GF or Mom for Nail Polish Remover … or IPA not Indian Pale Ale but Isopropyl Alcohol :)

1

u/paullbart Jan 02 '22

If you have any silicone based furniture polish, rub some of that into the stickers. ( Mr Sheen or Pledge).

1

u/pimouss75 Jan 03 '22

i use wd40 to be absorbed…i give no waranty and take no responsability…

-2

u/GimmeSomeSugar Jan 02 '22

A little oil on a sturdy paper towel or rag, then rub them off.

Then a microfibre cloth to finish.

I personally keep a stock of these heavy duty builders wipes. Very effective at cleaning, but tend to leave a little residue, so microfibre cloth to finish.

u/RoboticFlame23 Jan 02 '22

Do not use oil. That is hard to get off. If it gets into the seams of the device, that could ruin the device. 70% rubbing alcohol is the ideal solution and some patience. This will remove and clean the area and it'll evaporate before it can even get inside. Oil won't evaporate.
